Vahn's confusion only deepened as the demon left. He moved to the counter, where the cashier had already started scanning his own items. He still didn't speak.
"Do you... always work here?" Vahn asked, his voice uncertain.
The cashier didn't respond. Instead, he simply gestured for Vahn to place anything he wanted to purchase onto the counter. As Vahn did so, he noticed that, unlike any regular store, the cashier didn't ask for money. Instead, he simply scanned a price tag from a hidden drawer and nodded once.
"What... what do you pay with?" Vahn asked, his curiosity overwhelming him.
The cashier's eyes flicked to him, a brief flash of something in them. Then he held up a single finger. Vahn wasn't sure what it meant, but he had a feeling it was a sign to stop asking questions.
