Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

Katherine slightly turned to the side and picked up the phone placed beside her. The screen lit up, showing a message from Nurse Sana.

"Sister Katherine, I've been on night shifts these past two days, so I haven't been able to message you," Nurse Sana's words carried a hint of apology.

Katherine knew this young girl had it tough. Night shifts were hard, yet she still remembered to send her messages.

"There's been no change in the department these past two days. Your matter hasn't progressed yet, but Sister Katherine, don't worry. I will talk to the director and ask him to investigate further."

Reading this, Katherine felt deeply moved.

After she left the department, Nurse Sana never forgot about her case and kept trying to find ways to help.

To Katherine, this kindness was extremely precious.

"Sister Katherine, looking forward to the day you come back." That simple sentence made Katherine's eyes tear up slightly.

Nurse Sana had only been with her for one year, but during that year, Katherine witnessed how much this girl had grown.

She was not only beautiful and kind-hearted but also hardworking in her studies and work.

Katherine liked this young girl from the bottom of her heart. This liking was unrelated to anything else; it was a recognition and admiration of Nurse Sana's character.

Katherine's fingers quickly moved on the screen, replying carefully to Nurse Sana's message.

Just then, a friend request popped up. Katherine was puzzled but clicked to open it. Seeing it was from Joshua, she quickly accepted.

Right after adding the friend, a message immediately appeared in the chat: "Xiaoli, I forgot to send you today's photo."

"Please send me the photo, senior," Katherine replied.

As soon as she sent the message, her solo photo was sent over.

Joshua looked at their photo together, then hesitated and deleted it, feeling it might be inappropriate to send.

"Thank you, senior."

Joshua replied quickly: "You're welcome. I haven't slept all night, so I won't disturb you. Sleep well."

"Okay, senior, you too."

Joshua quietly stared at Katherine's WeChat profile photo on his phone.

From the photo's background, it seemed to have been taken during her university days. Although only her back was shown, it still caught his attention.

Time flew. It had already been four years since they graduated from university.

In those four years, his life had changed drastically.

At first, his family forced him to take over the nearly bankrupt Jiang Group. This decision was like a huge stone thrown into a calm lake, completely disrupting his carefully planned life path.

He loved being a doctor deeply, a dream he had since he was young. But for family responsibility, he had to painfully give it up.

Because of this, he lost contact with those medical friends he studied with, including Katherine.

Back then, he was like a lone boat in a storm, with the Jiang Group on the verge of collapse. He was full of worries, not knowing if he had the ability to save the family business.

If he failed, he would lose everything. Under this huge pressure, he could only cut off all ties and move forward alone.

Fortunately, after countless hard days and nights, the company gradually returned to normal.

Fate seemed to favor him. Just last night, he met Katherine again.

At that moment, the love he had buried deep in his heart began to grow wildly like wild grass touched by the spring breeze, impossible to hide anymore.

He felt his heart come alive again, the feeling stronger than in his college days.

Joshua looked at the photo of the two of them on his phone, his eyes full of tenderness.

He carefully saved the photo into his secret album, where he kept his most precious memories.

The album had many pictures of them in the lab, some taken by classmates, showing their focused faces as they worked on experiments. Every look and every movement showed their strong desire for medical knowledge.

There were also photos he saved from other people's social circles. Katherine in these pictures was sometimes smiling, sometimes thoughtful, and every side of her fascinated him.

In these photos, Katherine was the only main character, occupying the entire stage of his youth.

The time he spent with her last night was like a sweet dream.

He noticed she hadn't answered calls or sent messages during that time. Joshua guessed quietly that she probably didn't have a boyfriend yet.

This thought lit a hopeful flame inside him. He decided not to hesitate anymore. He would actively pursue her and not miss this girl who made his heart beat faster.

After leaving Katherine, Joshua did not go straight home but hurried to the company.

He had just sat down at his desk, ready to deal with some files.

There was a knock on the door, and the secretary came in, looking anxious.

"President Joshua, bad news. The land in the east city, we were already told to go sign the contract tomorrow," she said worriedly.

"But they just called and said the land has already been sold to Andrew's Xinyu Group," the secretary's voice was full of disappointment.

Joshua frowned slightly, the name immediately appearing in his mind.

"Andrew from Xinyu Group?"

The secretary nodded quickly.

"Yes, Andrew came back from abroad two days ago." Her tone showed strong dislike.

"But as soon as he returned, he took our land. Is he doing this on purpose to target us?"

Joshua waved his hand calmly.

"Secretary Jin, don't say that. Business is about who is stronger."

He knew well that emotions should not affect decisions in business. Every choice could affect the company's future.

"If Xinyu Group got the land, it means their offer was better than ours."

"Call and ask why the other side broke the agreement with us."

"See if there is any room to negotiate."

The secretary's anxious mood slowly eased after hearing Joshua's words. She nodded.

"I understand. I'll call right now."

She left, leaving Joshua alone at his desk, his eyes showing a trace of thought.

The relationship between Joshua and Andrew was uncertain.

Although they worked in the same competitive and stormy business circle, they were not very familiar with each other.

But Andrew's name was loud and well-known.

In the ever-changing business world, Andrew was like a fierce storm, stirring up waves wherever he went.

He acted decisively and firmly. Once he chose a target, he acted without hesitation or delay.

Before Joshua could figure out the reasons behind this, the secretary came back again.

"President Joshua, I just asked. They said Xinyu Group offered twice the price we did for that land."
