Assistant Ryan got out of the car and quickly walked forward, blocking the woman's way. His eyes showed a hint of confusion. "Wait, what's going on? Why are you outside?"
When Katherine heard Assistant Ryan's voice, her eyes instantly reddened. It seemed like she was trying hard to hold back her feelings of hurt and unease. Her voice trembled slightly as she answered, "I… I really didn't do anything. But he suddenly flew into a rage."
After saying this, she didn't want to stay any longer and stumbled as she walked away.
Assistant Ryan quietly watched her leave, his mind full of doubts.
The boss was unhappy with her?
But since nothing serious had happened, Assistant Ryan felt secretly relieved.
He steadied himself and then quickened his pace to go back inside.
The moment he stepped into the living room, he immediately sensed the heavy, oppressive atmosphere.
Andrew sat on the sofa with a dark expression. It was as if a black cloud hung over him, giving off a "stay away" feeling.
Assistant Ryan carefully approached, walking softly, afraid to disturb Andrew's bad mood.
When he reached him, Assistant Ryan bent slightly and asked gently and respectfully, "Boss, what's wrong?"
"Why did she leave?" Andrew looked up and glanced coldly at Assistant Ryan. "Why haven't you gone back yet?"
Assistant Ryan pressed his lips, calmly explaining, "I was worried you might need me to handle something, so I waited outside for a while."
"Boss, do you want me to find someone else to come over?"
Andrew's eyes suddenly darkened like deep water stirred up. He shouted harshly, "Go back and sleep."
Then he stood up quickly and walked straight upstairs, leaving Assistant Ryan alone.
Andrew returned to the bedroom, but his mood became even more restless.
He glanced at his phone. In his heart, he secretly hoped Katherine would message him.
But apart from Charlotte's message, there was nothing else.
He threw the phone aside and wrapped himself tightly in the blanket on the bed.
Andrew did not believe he truly liked Katherine. He refused to believe it.
The next day, just as dawn broke, Katherine woke up quietly.
She got up softly and carefully prepared a nutritious breakfast for herself.
After eating, she quickly tidied up and left the house.
First, she went to the visa center to apply for a travel visa.
The busy and noisy environment inside the visa center did not affect her determined steps.
After submitting all the application materials, the staff told her the visa process was complicated and would take about a month at best.
Katherine thought quietly to herself. This one month was just enough time for her to calmly finish everything she needed to handle at home.
After leaving the visa center, she looked at her watch and then drove straight to the hospital.
She knew clearly that some things felt like a thorn stuck in her throat. She had to find out the truth and could not accept being wrongly accused without reason.
The car came to a steady stop in the hospital parking lot. After getting out, Katherine walked toward the elevator with calm and steady steps.
"Dr. Katherine!" Suddenly, a voice broke the silence around her.
Katherine stopped instinctively when she heard it. Her eyebrows lifted slightly as she turned in the direction of the voice.
She saw a young man in his early twenties walking toward her with a big smile on his face.
"Dr. Katherine, I didn't expect it to really be you," the young man said warmly as he approached.
Katherine looked confused, her eyes filled with curiosity. "Excuse me, do we know each other?"
The young man quickly explained with a smile, "Dr. Katherine, I'm Li Quan's son, Li He. Last month, you performed surgery on my father yourself. Your excellent skills and dedication left a deep impression on our whole family. Do you remember?"
As he reminded her, the memory came back to her, and a gentle smile appeared on her face. "Ah, that was you. How is your father doing now?"
Li He replied respectfully, "Thanks to your amazing skills, he's recovering very well. He can move around freely now and can basically take care of himself."
Katherine nodded slightly, a hint of relief in her eyes. "That's good to hear."
Then, with a bit of curiosity, she asked, "So what brings you to the hospital today?"
Li He said excitedly, "I just got hired to work in the hospital's surveillance room. Yesterday was my first day."
The moment he said that, Katherine's eyes lit up, as if she had just caught an important clue. "What? You're working in the surveillance room now?"
"Yes," he replied. "I just finished the night shift and was heading home."
Katherine smiled and said, "Li He, are you free now? Let me buy you a cup of coffee."
Li He was a little flustered but happy. "Yes, yes, of course. I should be the one treating you, Dr. Katherine."
They went to the café across from the hospital. Katherine handed the menu to Li He. "You haven't had breakfast yet, right? Order whatever you like."
"I already ate at the hospital," Li He replied.
Seeing that, Katherine went straight to the point. "Li He, have you heard about me being suspended?"
Li He was shocked. "What? You were suspended? Why?"
"It's a long story," she said. "But I need your help with something right now."
Li He's expression turned serious, and without hesitation, he nodded firmly. "Dr. Katherine, just tell me what you need. I'll do everything I can to help."
Looking at him, Katherine's eyes showed a hint of gratitude. "When you're on duty, can I go into the surveillance room with you? I need to review some footage from a specific time."
Li He hesitated, and seeing this, Katherine added, "If it's really not convenient, could you help me make a copy of the surveillance footage from the inpatient department of our ward on the morning of June 27? Is that possible?"
After thinking for a moment, Li He looked apologetic. "Dr. Katherine, to be honest, I probably can't bring you in directly. Our surveillance room requires facial recognition to enter. But don't worry. I can help copy the footage for you when I'm on duty tonight. My coworker takes the first half of the night shift, and I take the second half. I'll use that time to handle it. I won't let you down."
Katherine gave him a slight bow and said sincerely, "Li He, thank you so much for your help."
Although Katherine didn't explain everything, Li He was observant enough to guess from her behavior and words that she was likely being framed, which had led to her suspension.
He was determined to help her, even if it cost him his job.
After parting ways with Li He, Katherine drove off slowly, her heart filled with complicated emotions, heading toward her mother's cemetery.
