Chapter 24: The weight of Truth II
Seconds later, a man followed.
Claire paused the video, zooming in as much as the resolution would allow. The second man wore a hat pulled low and sunglasses, but something about his build felt familiar. He didn't look like a friend. He looked like someone following her father. Someone making sure he got into that car.
Her stomach dropped.
She scrubbed forward. The next few minutes were uneventful—just city traffic. But then, near the end of the video, the same black car was parked on the side of the road. And this time, her father wasn't in it. The man in the hat got out, walked around the car, and placed something underneath.
Claire stared in horror. It looked like a small device—flat, black, with wires. A tracker?
Or worse—a bomb?
She yanked the flash drive out, her breath catching in her throat. It was too much. Too real. Too fast. She tried to steady herself, but her world felt like it was spinning off its axis.
