The last third of the way was Joshua pulling Katherine up the mountain.
She didn't expect the final path on Wutong Mountain to be so difficult.
When they reached the top, Katherine sat down on the ground, gasping heavily. She felt like her legs no longer belonged to her.
She didn't even know if she could make it down the mountain safely.
Joshua also sat down beside her without caring about his image. He opened a bottle of glucose water and said, "Here, have some energy first."
Katherine took it and drank a few sips. She was very familiar with this taste. Whenever they had long surgeries, they survived on this.
Seeing Katherine so exhausted, Joshua suddenly felt a bit regretful.
He shouldn't have brought her here. Maybe this place was not for her.
After resting for a moment, Katherine felt alive again. "Senior, thank you."
"You're welcome."
Although it was midsummer in Jing City, it was cold at the top of Wutong Mountain.
Joshua took off his jacket and draped it over Katherine's shoulders.
Seeing this, Katherine wanted to take it off, but Joshua said, "You're sweating and the wind can make you catch a cold. Wear it."
"But won't you get cold?"
"I've trained for years, I should be able to handle it better than you," Joshua said casually.
Katherine looked at the time. It was already 4 a.m. They had been climbing for seven hours.
Joshua stood and held out his hand to her. "There's a pavilion ahead. I'll take you there to rest."
"The sunrise will probably take more than an hour to show."
Katherine nodded. "Okay."
Many people started climbing with them, but most gave up halfway.
Very few actually reached the top.
Katherine thought she might only climb once in her life. Climbing really felt like it took half her life away.
They arrived at the pavilion. Katherine really wanted to lie down, but she felt awkward with Joshua beside her.
She could only lean against a pillar and sit.
Joshua sat about a meter away.
He looked at Katherine and asked, "Are you feeling better?"
"Yeah, much better. Senior, this method is good, but it's a bit tiring."
Hearing this, Joshua's shoulders shook as he laughed.
"Sorry, I thought you had been training these past few years. I didn't consider it carefully."
"No problem. Without you, I might never have seen the view from the top of Wutong Mountain in my life. I should thank you."
After speaking, Katherine tilted her head and looked into the distance.
Joshua turned his head to look at her, gradually losing focus.
When Katherine turned back, Joshua quickly looked down at his shoe tips.
"Senior, what kind of work are you doing now?"
"Doing business."
"Is that job easier than being a doctor?"
Joshua smiled, "Neither is easy, but being a doctor is definitely harder. Every diagnosis affects someone's life."
"Yes, sometimes even if you put your heart into it, you don't always get a good result."
Hearing this, Joshua thought for a moment. Could Katherine be having difficulties at work?
"Katherine, are you having problems with your job?"
Katherine's eyes darkened for a moment, but she quickly returned to her usual calm. She smiled faintly and said, "Nothing, just feeling a bit sentimental."
Joshua didn't ask further. He didn't want to force her.
The two chatted casually, and as time passed, the sky gradually brightened.
The darkness seemed to be slowly pulled aside by an invisible hand. A brilliant ray of light, like a lively paintbrush, gently swept across and lit up the whole Wutong Mountain.
A sparkle of delight instantly appeared in Katherine's eyes. She hurriedly told Joshua, "Senior Brother, there really is a sunrise."
Joshua smiled, his eyes full of warmth. "Yes, we're lucky today. The weather is perfect."
He followed Katherine to the railing, the best spot to watch the sunrise.
Soon, the sun slowly rose.
Its dazzling light spread little by little, like golden waves, gently covering all of Wutong Mountain.
Every leaf and rock seemed to come alive, shining with enchanting brilliance.
The sunlight fell on Katherine's face, as if draping her with a golden veil, making her already beautiful face even more radiant.
Joshua looked at Katherine with full admiration.
"Katherine, want me to take some photos for you? We don't get to come up here often."
She nodded slightly, "Okay."
She was about to take out her phone, but before she could, Joshua quickly pulled out his phone and stepped forward to find the best angle.
He held up his phone, aiming the camera at Katherine.
In the frame, Katherine seemed to merge with the sunrise, beautiful like a dream.
His heartbeat quickened unexpectedly, and he momentarily lost focus.
At that moment, it felt like only Katherine's figure existed in his eyes, everything else fading into the background.
He knew this scene would be deeply engraved in his memory, becoming one of his most treasured moments.
He gently pressed the shutter, capturing this beautiful moment and the subtle, wonderful feelings stirring in his heart.
Joshua took several photos from different angles.
Then someone passed by. Joshua politely asked, "Hello, could you help me take a photo with my friend?"
The passerby happily agreed, "Sure."
Joshua went back to Katherine's side. "Let's capture this shining moment together."
"Okay."
"Good-looking couple, look here and smile. I'm ready."
They both showed lovely smiles.
The passerby thought they looked so good together and said, "How about you turn around and face away? I'll take a photo of your backs."
Katherine thought about how enthusiastic he was and felt too shy to refuse.
Joshua said, "If you don't want to, we don't have to."
Katherine smiled, "It's fine, let's do it."
At that moment, if Katherine looked up, she would see the gentle smile on Joshua's handsome face.
After the passerby finished, he handed the phone back to Joshua and couldn't help but say, "You two really look perfect together."
Katherine quickly explained, "You misunderstood. We're not that kind of relationship."
The passerby smiled, "Yeah, I get it. Not now, but who knows later."
"Bye, see you if fate allows."
Katherine said, "Bye."
