Chapter 66 - Zhāng 64

"Who are you?" PN Lieutenant Ino was startled and asked.

Bang. A bullet was the reply.

"Even if you speak Chinese, I don't want to talk to an animal," Paige casually said as she blew on the gun's muzzle.

The communications officer tried to shrink his presence as much as possible, hoping Paige wouldn't see him.

Bang. Before she left, Paige still gave him a cold, deadly shot.

"Hey, connect me to Commander Ye. Oh, Commander Ye, it's you.

What? You're already on the way? That's great.

By the way, do you have many people with you? The PN's reinforcements are also coming. Better not bump into them and get wiped out.

Oh right, different directions. I forgot.

Also, I brought in a group of female soldiers for you. Remember to take them back and train them well.

Tonight, I led them to take over this city.

Alright, if there's nothing else, I'm hanging up. I have to go to the city gate and send off those PN Soldiers."

Paige hung up the phone after speaking with Commander Ye.

Suddenly, she felt a bit bored.

This world was broken and ruined. If not for the abundance of food and drinks, it felt no different from the apocalypse.

Those PN Soldiers were like rats in the gutter. You kill one wave, and another comes again.

Paige counted the days. Without realizing it, New Year's Day had already passed. In just over ten days, it would be the Lunar New Year.

In the apocalypse, people would find a way to celebrate the New Year even without resources. Now that things were better, she had to make sure to celebrate it well.

She decided to take a break and get ready for the New Year.

Paige was getting tired of her current life. Fighting all day long—how was it any different from her past life?

Wasn't she supposed to be enjoying her retirement?

This life, the fighting and killing weren't her responsibility anymore. She felt she shouldn't interfere too much.

Anyway, they were still human. Humans fighting humans. With Hua Nation's population so large, and PN just a small island, there was no way to lose no matter how they fought.

Once she figured that out, Paige decided to finish this battle and go home to prepare for the New Year.

Unless someone disturbed her life, she wouldn't bother anymore.

In her past life, she fought the Zombie King because ordinary people had no chance against it.

But this time, the PN Official was just another human protected by many PN Soldiers.

Nothing to fear.

Anyone could do it. She didn't need to take all the responsibility herself.

Paige hung up the phone and took her team of female soldiers to ambush at the city gate.

There wasn't much of a fight. For Paige, it was just a bunch of weaklings walking into her trap. No challenge at all.

As expected, all the reinforcements were wiped out.

The nearby city of Shuicheng saw ten thousand elite troops vanish and trembled in fear.

What about the heavy weapons that went with them? Why wasn't there any sound?

Was the situation so bad that they didn't even have time to use heavy weapons?

Because no one survived, they had no idea what had happened.

The truth was, before they had a chance to open fire, those heavy weapons were already taken away by Paige.

As for the women following beside her, their eyes were only on the PN Soldiers. They didn't even notice what kind of weapons had arrived.

The PN Soldiers, panicked by the sudden disappearance of their heavy weapons, were soon swallowed by the artillery fire. They never got the chance to speak again.

When the support troops arrived, Paige just wanted to go back home that night.

"I'm going back to Jinling City now. If you want to go with me, I can take you straight to the military camp. Or, you can stay here and return with the support troops from here," Paige asked.

After all, these girls were all from this area. Maybe they had family they wanted to reunite with.

The girls looked at each other. When they were first captured, they had thought about going home every day. But now, when they really had the chance to go back, they felt a bit scared.

They weren't sure what would happen if Paige left. Would the officers accept them? What if their families didn't want them back and the army didn't take them either? If Paige left, they'd have nowhere to go.

So for a moment, the mood turned a bit low.

"I—I'll go with you," one girl raised her hand softly. "The day I was captured, my whole family was killed by PN Soldiers. I was lucky to survive. From now on, I want to kill as many PN Soldiers as I can to take revenge for my parents."

"My husband was killed by PN Soldiers too."

"I got separated from my parents while escaping. They must not be at home now."

"I—I don't dare to face my parents."

"I'm like this now, my husband surely won't want me anymore."

Everyone started talking at once. In the end, they all decided to go back with Paige.

"I'll say this first. Military training is not as easy as you think. Once you join the army, there's no turning back. If you want to stay here and live as ordinary women, that's fine too. Just move to a different place where no one knows you," Paige warned them.

"I've decided. I want to be a soldier. The village head used to say only people with ancestors watching over them could become soldiers. Now that I have this chance, I don't want to waste it. And it feels really satisfying to personally drive the PN Soldiers away."

The girls chatted more openly after that. In the end, not a single one chose to stay. They all decided to follow Paige.

Paige didn't waste words.

After giving the few remaining people in the town some food supplies, she had Winn and Uziel drive the car home.

She'd been out for so long, she suddenly missed home.

The road back was all under her control, so there were no obstacles.

Paige looked around. Taking back her territory was easy, but rebuilding it would require a lot of manpower and resources.

She hoped to have everything ready before the new year, so everyone could have a good celebration.

No, more importantly, she hoped those wandering corpses could finally rest in peace.
