Chapter 39 - Zhāng 38

"You should remember it now." Actually, it's just the hot and cold water switches. Even if you don't remember, you can feel it with your hand and figure it out.

They were just shocked that there were so many things they had never seen before.

And also, the amazing uses of these things.

It was their first time learning that there could be a toilet that doesn't smell bad.

Oh, wait, it's not a toilet. It's a bathroom.

"It's okay, you'll get used to it after using it for a while.

By the way, the water from the faucet isn't for drinking. Drinking water is outside, already prepared in kettles.

Just remember, things in the bathroom are only for using, not for eating.

If there's anything you don't understand, don't feel shy, just ask.

This is the light switch. Pull it once to turn it on, and pull again to turn it off.

This room is Winn's. Uziel and Ely, come with me. Your room is next door."

After Paige finished speaking, she called the other two and left with them.

The four of them had rooms close together: Paige's room was across from Winn's; next to Winn was Ely; across from Ely was Uziel; and Uziel was next to Paige.

There were still many rooms in the back, but since no one lived there yet, they only had basic furniture and hadn't been cleaned up.

The housemaids lived on the first floor.

Besides cleaning every day, they were not allowed to come to the second floor without permission.

After Paige brought them to their rooms, she went into her own room to take a bath.

The housemaid thoughtfully prepared a flower petal bath for her. They said young ladies from rich families liked it.

There were also various essential oils to choose from.

After Paige finished her bath, the other three were still in the bathroom, touching things here and there.

They explored for a while before remembering they needed to take a bath too, especially since it would be dinner time soon.

They turned on the shower and were amazed to see water coming out.

And it was hot water.

They smelled the soap in their hands.

It smelled so nice, it was scented soap.

They couldn't believe they were actually using scented soap now.

They washed themselves from head to toe, then slowly stepped into the bathtub.

They had only soaked in wooden tubs before. It was their first time using a real bathtub, and they could even stretch their legs out.

So amazing, so comfortable, though a little strange.

It felt like their bodies were about to float.

When they heard Paige call them for dinner, Winn and the others realized they had been soaking for a long time.

They had just been looking at things and touching everything without noticing how quickly time passed.

With towels wrapped around themselves, they suddenly remembered something serious.

They hadn't brought any clean clothes back. Were they supposed to put their dirty clothes back on?

They smelled their freshly bathed bodies. They really couldn't wear the dirty clothes again, especially since those clothes were already soaked from the bath.

"There are clothes in the walk-in closet. Just go change." While the three were stressing out, Paige's voice came from outside the room.

Paige really thought of everything.

But where was the walk-in closet?

The three of them searched the room before finally finding it.

So that was the walk-in closet. They had thought it was just another room.

Since Paige didn't lack money, all the fabrics used were high-quality.

Clothes make the person, just like saddles make the horse. When the three came downstairs, it was like they had completely changed.

Long robes and jackets made them look elegant and refined.

Even though they still looked a little uneasy, they were much better than when they first went upstairs, timid and nervous.

The three of them had been eating well recently, plus undergoing intense training.

Their whole energy and spirit had completely changed.

They walked with heads held high, much more confident than before.

These changes happened slowly and subtly, so the four people spending time together every day didn't really notice anything unusual.

"I thought you guys would wear those overalls," Paige said with a smile.

She had someone go buy a few different styles of clothes.

Since it was urgent, they could only buy ready-made ones that were close enough in size.

So they picked some long gowns and overalls.

Suits needed to be custom-made to look good.

They were already rushing the work, so in a while, their wardrobes would slowly fill up.

"That… that's not suitable," Ely said shyly.

"Not suitable? Too big or too small? Tell the butler later, and he'll have them altered," Paige asked.

"It's not the size. It's just that I'm not used to wearing them," Ely replied.

Even the long gown he was wearing now felt weird to him.

These long gowns were for educated people. People like him, just country folks, were only fit to wear short jackets.

"That's no problem. You'll get used to it after wearing them a few times.

Since everyone's here, let's serve the food."

"I'm telling you, Chef Deng can cook Western food. I thought you probably haven't tried it before, so I brought you to try it together." The four of them sat on one side of the big table, waiting for the food.

Soon, the house servants brought the dishes to the table.

Each person got a steak, a plate of spaghetti, and a bowl of mushroom soup.

Then, they each received a glass of red wine.

"Watch me. Left hand holds the fork, right hand holds the knife, then like this—cut, cut, cut—eat. That's it!" Paige demonstrated for them.

Ely and the others clumsily used their knives and forks, scraping loudly against the plates.

"Gentler, take it slow. Western food is meant to be eaten slowly.

Try not to make noise between the knife, fork, and plate," Paige guided them.

It wasn't like they had to master eating Western food, but she once read a book about relationships, and eating Western food was considered a romantic part of it.

She didn't really understand what was romantic about it, but figured everything should be tried at least once.

The three of them, struggling awkwardly, finished the pork chop on their plates.

They couldn't find beef at the last minute, so they had to use pork instead.

Then they ate the spaghetti and mushroom soup.

"Ugh, feels like eating nothing. Hurry up and bring more food, I'm starving," Paige said after finishing the Western food, complaining.

There was so little of it that it felt like she hadn't eaten at all. She still didn't get what was romantic about it. It just felt like a waste of time.

The servants cleared all the Western dishes, and soon, steaming hot stir-fried dishes were served.

"Now this is what I like. That Western food didn't fill me up at all," Paige said.

"Paige, who invented Western food anyway? Was it just to make the chef's job easier?

After it's served, you still have to cut it yourself. Isn't that just making things harder?

If you're hungry, your cutting speed might not even keep up with your eating speed.

Unlike stir-fry, which you can eat right away. So much more convenient!" Ely stuffed a big piece of meat in his mouth and followed it with a huge bite of rice.

Eating like this, big bites, that's the way to go.

To be honest, he could've eaten that whole steak in one bite. He didn't get why it had to be cut slowly.

"I think you're right. Foreigners are just lazy. They try every way possible to save effort," Paige nodded.

"Paige, have you met any foreigners? You sound like you know them well." The three of them looked at her curiously.
