"You should thank Commander Ye for me when you go back. I really like this place. He put a lot of thought into it," Paige said happily to Officer Fang.
"Alright, I'll pass on your message. The Commander told me to prioritize Miss Paige's preferences. If you're not comfortable here, I'll be punished. So if you have any requests, please let me know. I'll make sure everything gets done," Officer Fang replied.
"This is my home now, so of course I'll slowly decorate it. If I need anything, I'll tell the housekeeper. If the housekeeper can't handle it, I'll come to you," Paige said.
The two of them stood outside on the balcony, enjoying the cold wind, feeling completely at ease.
It had stopped snowing, and the roads were being cleared, but the rooftops were still covered in a blanket of white. It looked beautiful, though it was a bit cold.
But Paige didn't feel cold at all. All she felt was how wonderful life was right now.
That evening, Paige went to the military camp to bring the others back. The three of them had been dismissed early from class.
It was their first day living in the new house, so Paige asked the chef to prepare a luxurious dinner.
All the food had been delivered by Officer Fang.
There were even some fresh vegetables. Although they weren't very tender, they were still rare and precious during the harsh winter.
She didn't know how Officer Fang had managed to get them.
Paige's space couldn't be used for planting or preserving food, so it only stored the grains and canned goods she had seized from the PN Soldiers before.
Some of it had been given to the army, and a small amount was kept in her space.
Paige wasn't a selfless person. There was no way she'd give away everything she got for free.
If they hadn't been bravely fighting the enemy, they wouldn't have gotten a single grain from her.
There were no fresh vegetables left. The few she had gathered earlier had already been eaten.
Looking at the endless concrete ground, Paige sighed in disappointment. If only she could grow or raise something here.
In the apocalypse, normal soil couldn't be used for farming.
It had to go through multiple levels of purification and disinfection before it was usable.
Seeds were no longer the original kind either. They had been genetically modified through more than ten generations.
Even the water for farming had to be purified.
Any mistake in the process could lead to crop failure.
The only good thing was that after the apocalypse, crop yields had increased several times compared to before. This was what had prevented humanity from going extinct.
Of course, the taste of the food grown was much better, but only people with power or money could afford to eat it.
Ordinary people had to go out into the wild and search for non-toxic food.
As long as it wasn't poisonous, it was edible. As for taste—no one cared about that anymore.
Paige had once tried planting seeds in a flowerpot in her space.
Even after a month of careful care, nothing ever sprouted.
As for raising animals, she couldn't store living mutated beasts in her space.
She couldn't store living people either. Dead ones could be stored, but she found it too creepy.
So, the hopeful planting space she had once imagined ended up just becoming a mobile storage room.
Well, not entirely useless—it could still be used to kill zombies.
Back to the point. Paige brought Ely and the others back to the villa. Ely was so shocked his jaw nearly dropped.
"Sis, sis, sis, is this really our new home?" Ely stared at the two-story villa in disbelief.
"Get your tongue straight before you speak. It's just a big house. Don't act like you've never seen one before," Paige replied.
Your sister's dream is to own a house in every city.
"Are you going to stutter every time you see a new house?" Paige said with disgust.
"This is the first one! It's worth stuttering over. Once I see more, I won't care anymore," Ely replied.
Then the four of them started walking around the villa.
"This garden is so big! If we use all of it to grow vegetables, we won't need to buy any in the future."
"We could also plant some fruit trees. Then we'd have fruit to eat too."
"There's even a pond here. Can we raise fish in it?"
"The fake mountain takes up too much space. If we move it, there will be more room for vegetables."
"We could also build a chicken coop and raise a few chickens. Then we'd have eggs whenever we want."
They all started planning how to use the garden land.
As for flowers, they never thought about planting any. Vegetables were way more practical than flowers.
Paige also thought it was a great idea to grow vegetables and fruit trees.
She began discussing with them what kind of fruit trees to plant. She planned to go into the mountains and dig up some suitable ones.
After walking around for a while, the four of them slowly went into the villa.
As soon as they stepped inside, Ely, Winn, and Uziel were shocked by the luxurious decorations.
Looking at their dirty selves, they hesitated to even step in.
"There are slippers on the shoe rack. Change into those, and then I'll take you upstairs to shower. After you clean up, we'll eat," Paige pointed to the shoe rack.
The shoe rack was only temporary; the new one hadn't arrived yet.
When they didn't move, Paige threw each of them a pair of slippers and urged them,
"Hurry up. If you're not ready soon, you'll miss dinner."
"Hello, miss. Hello, young masters," said a woman walking toward them. She was the maid. She took the shoes Ely and the others had taken off and placed them neatly on the rack.
"No, no, I can do it myself," Ely and the others quickly declined.
They put their shoes on the rack themselves.
"Go upstairs and get their bath water ready," Paige instructed.
She knew the other three weren't used to this kind of life yet. They would adapt with time.
"The water is already ready," the maid replied softly.
"Come on, let me show you the rooms," Paige said to Ely and the others.
The three quickly followed behind her. The spacious living room, the bright crystal chandeliers, the shiny floor, and all the expensive looking things
Everything in here was completely new to them.
Once they reached the second floor, Winn and the others almost felt like flying.
They tiptoed on the carpet, afraid of dirtying it.
When they reached the rooms, they finally let out a breath of relief.
"Look, this is the shower. This switch gives cold water, and this one is for hot. Adjust it yourself.
This is the toilet. You use it to go to the bathroom. When you're done, press this button to flush.
This is toilet paper. You use it to wipe.
In a bit, use the soap to wash yourself, then you can soak in the bathtub.
If the water gets cold, just add more hot water. This is the hot water switch."
Paige explained everything to them. Seeing their dazed expressions, she asked,
"Did you get all that? Do you need me to say it again?"
