And I started talking to USSR. It abstained in the vote along with Belarus and other Soviet states under it which have UN membership.
We talked about Soviet oil and natural gas, and agreed to have our diplomats meet for a trade deal at a later date. We also agreed on Pakistan being a UK puppet fascist state like Nazi Germany.
A vote for Pakistan getting UN membership was called, and USSR veto'ed against Pakistan joining the organization. Neither did it manage to acquire the votes necessary.
A vote for India becoming the permanent member of UNSC began again, and this time the result was:
Yes: 30
No: 18
Abstain: 5
Not only India not get the necessary 2/3rd votes in the general assembly, this time China(ROC) also veto'ed, either to stop India from growing, or from US pressure amidst the Civil War it is loosing.
It's statement was that India has outstanding border disputes with it. First we should resolve it and then ROC will not block India.
If UK didn't use veto the first time, India would have become the sixth member of UN.
I didn't say anything about it to Atlee, but there will be consequences later. Suez Canal crisis is going to start in a few years. Till then, India will act as a close friend to UK.
But I asked for 5 billion pounds as aid and a promise to not deteriorate relations by supporting Pakistan.
India withdrew from United Nations Organization two days after Independence. The world was shocked that India actually withdrew.
