Chapter 5 - Chapter 5. Spring Time

Chapter Five

Jenn's POV

I woke up as soon as my alarm rang and went to offer namaz. After finishing, I opened the curtains. The sun was bright, birds were chirping, the sky was a beautiful mix of colors, and there was greenery everywhere. It felt like spring had finally arrived.

Spring had always been my favorite season — it comes after winter, and I had this little superstition that it takes away all the sadness winter brings.

I still felt that ache in my heart remembering everything that happened yesterday, but I told myself, I can't lie in bed like a loser. I have to be strong. I'm not a loser, and I won't cry for anyone anymore.

But deep down… I knew I was lying to myself. I was hurt. Badly.

I didn't try to go back to sleep. I went straight to the bathroom, took a long shower, got dressed, and called Jas.

"How was your meeting yesterday?" Jas asked teasingly.

"Cut the crap. Meet me at the park," I replied, trying to hold myself together.

"Oh wow, you're actually going to the park instead of sleeping?" she asked in mock disbelief.

"Yes, I am. Just meet me there in 10 minutes," I said before hanging up.

I headed to the parking lot and drove to the park. It was just two kilometers away, but I had no intention of walking. I never walk if I don't have to.

I reached the park early, while Jas, who was walking, arrived about 10 minutes later. She spotted me on the bench, walked over, and sat beside me, giving me a side hug.

"Tell me, my bear bull, what happened?" she asked, kissing my cheek.

"Cringe! What's with that name?" I replied, trying to act annoyed.

"Anyway, you can't even imagine what I went through yesterday. It felt like a huge cloudburst over my head," I said, wiping away a few tears.

And even before hearing the whole story, Jas started crying with me.

"Listen to me first, you idiot," I said, letting out a small laugh through my pain. It reminded me how much this idiot truly loved me.

"I've never seen you cry like this, especially in the morning. You love your sleep. This must be serious," she said, concern filling her eyes.

"Okay, get ready to hear it all," I said, holding her hand tightly.

I told her everything, and she sat in complete shock, tears rolling down her cheeks.

"He's a loser. A coward. An asshole!" she shouted angrily.

"Hey! Don't say anything bad about him, please," I pleaded.

"Shut up! I'll punch you in the face," she snapped.

"Okay, bro. Chill. Let's go back to my place and have some tasty breakfast," I suggested.

"But I haven't even finished my morning walk yet!" she protested.

"Forget it, man," I said, dragging her toward my car.

When we reached home, Mumma was in the garden, watering her plants. Jas greeted her with a warm hug — she was Mumma's favorite too.

I asked Mumma to serve breakfast in my room, and Jas and I went straight there. I could see in her eyes that she was more upset than I was.

"Jenn… please forget about him. You'll find someone way better," Jas said, giving me a side hug.

"I don't want to get married right now. I'm too young," I replied, forcing a smile.

"You're right. Let's plan a trip and just enjoy ourselves. Screw boys!" she said sarcastically, and we both couldn't help but laugh.

She was so pretty and cute — and luckily, about my height, hehe.

Mumma knocked before entering.

"So girls, your breakfast is ready. I made everything Jas loves," she said sweetly, cupping Jas's cheeks.

"Yeah, yeah, she's your favorite," I said, rolling my eyes.

"Of course she is! You don't share anything with me. You have a favorite too — your father, right?" she said in a playful, taunting tone.

I knew what she was really trying to say.

"You could've just told me if you didn't want to get married," Mumma added, offering Jas a bite from the plate.

"Aunty, don't force her. She's still young. Give her some time… or maybe a few years," Jas said softly, defending me.

I could see how she was trying to help.

"Okay, do whatever you want. But if anything ever bothers you, come to me. I'm always here for you. And stop being such a daddy's girl — it hurts me so much," Mumma said dramatically before walking out and closing the door behind her.

Jas and I, being the ultimate foodies, devoured everything on the plate.

I checked my phone and noticed a message from an unknown number. I ignored it at first, but then curiosity got the better of me. What if it was something important?

I opened the message.

"Thank you for saving me. You don't know how much I appreciate your help. You're a kind and beautiful girl. I hope you get all the happiness in life.

Let me know when you're free, I'll treat you to a meal.

BTW, this is Ayeran."

I stared at the message for a moment… then put my phone down.

"Jenn, let's plan a trip! It's finally spring!" Jas said excitedly.

We always used to go on trips twice a year — once in spring and once in autumn. Spring was my favorite season, while autumn was Jas's.

I sighed and smiled a little.

Be strong, Jenn. It's spring. The sadness will go away.

I looked up at the sky through my window and smiled.
