Chapter 23 - Deeper into Dungeon and The Truth

Deep Inside the Dungeon

The first chamber was deceptively quiet. A rectangular space littered with decaying crates.

As they stepped in, the floor creaked.

Then—skittering.

Shadow Creepers. Four-legged, low-bodied creatures with glistening black carapace and venomous barbs.

Level 8.

"I got left," Raven muttered.

Before Alex could speak, Raven was already moving—his sword slicing through two creepers in a clean horizontal arc.

Alex vanished into Stealth.

The remaining creepers twitched, confused. One lunged forward—

Only to be impaled from behind. Silent. Clean.

They cleared the room without a scratch.

"Easy peasy" Raven grinned while Alex moved forward silently.

The second floor was darker.

Roots veined the walls, pulsing with dim red light.

Raven glanced at him. "Alright, serious question—why are you even in this dungeon? It's not exactly a walk in the park for someone stuck at the level cap."

Alex exhaled slowly. "I hit Level 10. Then it stopped. No experience. No updates. I came here for answers."

There was a moment of silence.

Then Raven burst out laughing.

"You—wait—" He bent over, holding his side. "You really thought you could just keep grinding? Man, you really are new here."

Alex gave him a deadpan look. "Is that so strange?"

"It's not strange. It's dumb." Raven smirked. "You hit Level 10, the system locks. You don't level until you get a Class."

Alex's eyes narrowed. "And how do you get one?"

"You get a Main Quest—assigned by the system itself. It's not random. It's personal. Based on your life, your impact, your path. Something meaningful."

Alex considered that. "And if you never get a quest?"

Raven shrugged. "Then you're stuck at Level 10 forever. Happens all the time to common folks. And You my friend does not look common to me. So do not rush, you will get one soon."

Alex was about to reply—when suddenly, a familiar chime echoed in his mind.

Ding—

Alex stood still.

The system screen pulsed before his eyes. His fingers clenched slowly.

Raven looked over. "...You good?"

Alex's voice came low.

"It just gave me my Main Quest."

Raven's eyes widened. "Already? What is it?"

Alex stared into the dark corridor.

Kill one of Thorne's Fang…

Raven's smirk vanished.

"You've gotta be kidding me."

Alex met his gaze calmly.

"And you? What's your quest?"

Raven sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Clear this dungeon. That's it. That's my Main Quest. I've been planning it for weeks. They said only Fangs are allowed inside—now I know why. This place is hiding something."

He paused, then chuckled.

"But hey—you're helping me with mine… I'll help you with yours after."
