Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: Monster Meat

In the same way as last time, Lucifer and Nothing had successfully defeated 5 more Half Horse Half Wolf monsters, but in return, they lost 6 traps because the fire had burned all the wooden stakes.

But Lucifer had predicted this, so he had made many more wooden stakes in advance.

After Lucifer placed the new stakes in the holes, the sky was starting to turn dark and the weather grew colder and gloomier. It was time for the other monsters to wake up and hunt.

Fortunately, Nothing had managed to roast 2 brick-sized pieces of meat before nightfall. They couldn't light a fire at night, so Nothing had to roast the 2 pieces of meat in the afternoon.

"Hey Lucifer, here's your meat." Nothing handed Lucifer a piece of fragrant meat.

Even though this piece of meat wasn't seasoned, nor was there a trace of salt or pepper, the aroma it gave off was irresistible.

This piece of meat was truly fragrant, even more fragrant than the well-seasoned meat that Lucifer had eaten when he was staying with Owen and Reina.

Unable to wait any longer, Lucifer took a big bite, and he wasn't disappointed with his choice.

When he put the meat in his mouth, the first thing Lucifer felt was the crispiness of the slightly overcooked skin, followed by the softness and sweetness of the meat, and finally its juiciness.

The meat melted on the tip of Lucifer's tongue and went straight to his stomach. The meat juices kept flowing out, a strange yet extremely delicious feeling.

The warm, tasty feeling filled his mouth, making it impossible for Lucifer and Nothing to stop, they continued to enjoy each piece passionately.

'So this is happiness?' Lucifer thought happily.

He had never eaten anything so delicious in his life. This could be considered the happiest time for Lucifer since he entered the Second Trial.

For the first time in his life, Lucifer felt so satisfied.

He had learned that eating something delicious could bring this kind of happiness.

It didn't take Lucifer and Nothing more than a minute to finish their meal. Even after finishing, Lucifer still wanted to continue eating this piece of meat, but unfortunately, he didn't have enough time to grill more meat.

'How disappointing. I'll try to grill more meat next time.' Lucifer thought.

While Lucifer and Nothing were resting on the branch, enjoying the last taste of the meat before it completely disappeared, a howl suddenly rang out from deep within the forest.

The howl was so loud that it scared some birds away, it was so loud that it shook the leaves of the trees around, it was so loud that Lucifer and Nothing almost lost their balance and fell to the ground.

"What's going on?" Lucifer asked while checking around.

"I don't know, but it seems like that howl belongs to some kind of monster, a monster that can shake the leaves of the trees just by howling must be very strong." Nothing said.

Thinking of that prospect, Lucifer couldn't help but shiver a little.

If such a monster really existed, Lucifer didn't want to confront it at all, and there was no way he could defeat it, at least for now.

If Lucifer were to encounter that monster, he would definitely die.

A new day had come, meaning that Lucifer had to survive another day in this hellish Trial. Lucifer didn't even know if he would die today or not.

But he would definitely try his best to survive like the previous days.

Lucifer jumped down from the tree branch while Nothing was still sleeping soundly. It seemed that Nothing didn't sneak into his shadow like usual this time.

Could that be considered a good thing? Maybe, right?

Lucifer stretched his muscles for a moment and took a deep breath to enjoy the fresh air of Mother Nature. The air in the forest was completely different from the air in the city, it was much more relaxing, more comfortable, and more pleasant.

It was also completely different from the air filled with the smell of trash in the slums.

'What should I do today?'

Lucifer was wondering what his goal was for today. To be honest, he had done everything he should have done the past few days, so it could be said that Lucifer was currently quite free.

Lucifer knew that he had to do something to increase his chances of survival, but he didn't know what to do.

Suddenly, he remembered Reina and the others who had participated in the 2nd Trial with him. He wondered what they were doing and if they were close to defeating the Demon King.

'I wonder how many people are still alive?'

As if to answer his question, the system immediately sent Lucifer a message showing the number of survivors:

[Number of survivors: 799]

'What?' Lucifer's eyes widened when he saw the number of survivors.

If he remembered correctly, there were originally about 842 people who had joined the second Trial with him, and after only a few days, nearly 50 people died, which proved that the difficulty of this Trial was extremely high.

If the dead were just powerless people who had been lucky enough to complete the first Trial, Lucifer wouldn't have bothered with them, but if the dead were strong people, Lucifer couldn't help but feel a pang of worryness.

He was worried that completing the Trial would become much more difficult and worried about his life. If even strong people were dead because of this Trial, how could a weakling like Lucifer survive?

'I hope the dead are just weaklings who aren't worth remembering.'

A while later, Nothing finally woke up, but this time he had fallen from the tree branch because he had accidentally rolled around unconsciously.

But thanks to that, Lucifer knew his goal for today.

Today, Lucifer would try to expand his and Nothing's sleeping area.

Although Lucifer's current quality of life could be considered quite good, even better than when he was in the slums, there was still something that made him feel dissatisfied.

And that thing was the tree branch that Lucifer and Nothing used to sleep on. Although the branch was quite big and wide, if they weren't careful while sleeping, they would fall down below.

Lucifer needed to make their sleeping area wider if he didn't want his body to collide with the ground while he was sleeping soundly.

Lucifer picked up Dagger Of The Night and prepared to get to work.

However, neither Lucifer nor Nothing realized that they were being watched. Deep in the forest, a few dozen meters away from Lucifer's location, a creature or something was staring at the two of them with bloodthirsty eyes.

The eyes that predators often used to look at their prey.
