Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Battle Preparations

Ursaring's level is as high as 33, and its strength is not to be underestimated.

On Ryan's side, the highest-level Scyther is only level 28. Although level doesn't completely measure a Pokémon's combat power, a difference of a full 5 levels isn't that easy to make up for.

Therefore, thorough preparations must be made before the battle.

"Can't count on the players' side, Uncle White and Beedrill have to stay behind to guard the territory, looks like I can only rely on myself."

Ryan was a bit helpless. He hadn't summoned the players for long enough, and their strength hadn't grown yet. When things happened now, he still had to deal with them himself.

"It'll be good when the players grow stronger in the future." Ryan could only comfort himself this way. "Let's draw a lottery first and see if there's anything useful."

He had previously received three lottery chances as an achievement reward, but he hadn't had time to use them yet.

"No need for any rituals, I believe in my luck, just give me the draw directly!" Ryan said confidently.

[Congratulations! You have drawn Poké Ball ×3, Poké Ball ×3, Poké Ball ×3]

"???"

"Am I straining my eyes too much? Are my eyes seeing double?"

Ryan rubbed his eyes and looked again, but the text on the panel hadn't changed at all.

Looking at the nine Poké Balls in the panel, Ryan decided that he would pray to Arceus before drawing any more lotteries in the future. He couldn't trust his luck at all!

"But getting Poké Balls isn't bad either, they can be used to deal with Ursaring."

Ryan thought of the scene when he helped Aron escape in the morning. He could use the Poké Balls to hinder Ursaring's attacks at that time.

Just as he was still thinking of ways to deal with Ursaring, Aron ran in.

"Koko, koko!" It gestured at Ryan a few times.

"Do you want to participate in the battle too?"

"Koko!" Aron nodded frantically.

It was already very grateful to Ryan for taking it in, and after hearing that Ryan was going to fight Ursaring, it couldn't wait to volunteer for battle.

"You're still young, so first no, wait? You're actually level 18?"

Ryan hadn't checked Aron's level and thought it had just been born not long ago. As a result, it was already level 18.

It could only be said that Aron's body was too deceptive. Most Pokémon would have evolved to their second stage by level 18, but it was still in its basic stage.

"Truly, you can't judge a beast by its appearance. Okay, I'll bring you along later, we'll fight together."

"Koko koko!"

Aron cried out excitedly twice. It inherently loved adventure and battle, otherwise it wouldn't have sneaked out.

It used to often play fight with its companions in the group, which was why it had such a high level.

But those small fights couldn't be considered real battles at all, and it desperately longed for a proper battle.

"Rest well, and if you can recover all your stamina by tomorrow, we'll go fight that Ursaring."

Although Ryan really wanted to solve the Ursaring problem now and complete the side quest as soon as possible.

But Scyther was hit by Rock Throw in the morning and needed some time to recover, so they could only challenge Ursaring tomorrow.

Having received a definite answer, Aron left contentedly. Steenee, with the Grass Gem on its head, hopped over to Ryan again.

"Mone."

"No!"

Before Steenee could even speak, Ryan refused it.

He could tell at a glance that this little guy had also come to volunteer for battle.

"This is a battle for level 20-30 big shots, what's an eight-level Pokémon like you doing getting involved? Aren't you afraid Ursaring will eat you in one bite!"

"Moneji!" (`へ≠)

"Don't give me that displeased look. Besides, you don't even know many moves yet, how are you going to fight? If you had even one useful move, I'd take you."

"Moneji?" (Really?)

Ryan hesitated for a moment seeing its expression. Could it be that this little guy was hiding some other abilities?

But then he thought again, what skills could an eight-level Steenee possibly have? Rapid Spin? What's the use of that skill?

The only use would be to make it easier for Ursaring to eat it. The Ursaring opens its mouth and bites it, and it uses Rapid Spin, directly shedding its skin.

No matter how he thought about it, Ryan didn't think Steenee had any useful skills, so he answered definitively:

"Really, as long as you know one useful skill, I'll take you with me."

"Moneji mone~"

Steenee smiled confidently, then closed its eyes and began to gather energy. The Grass Gem on its head also glowed faintly.

At first, Ryan thought it was just pretending, but as time passed, a few small blades of grass slowly grew around Steenee.

"This can't be..."

Ryan approached the small blades of grass with a bit of disbelief and felt a special energy emanating from them.

"It really is Grassy Terrain!"

Ryan looked at the panting Steenee with a shocked expression.

Grassy Terrain was a minor god-tier skill. As long as you stood on it, it would increase the power of Grass-type moves and also recover the HP of Pokémon on the field.

And in reality, there was no turn limit like in the game. As long as your stamina and energy could support it, you could maintain the terrain indefinitely.

This skill was indeed very useful, but how did Steenee learn it?

At this moment, Ryan noticed the Grass Gem on Steenee's head.

Could it be because of this gem?

The effect of the Grass Gem in the game was that when held, it would increase the power of one Grass-type move, but it didn't say it could allow a Pokémon to learn a skill.

It seemed that these items from the game would undergo certain changes in reality.

"Moneji mone~"

Steenee was very happy after seeing that it had successfully released Grassy Terrain, and then looked at Ryan very proudly, with an expression on its face that said, "Praise me quickly."

"Your skill's pre-animation is too long, and there are only a few blades of grass, it won't have much recovery effect."

Hearing this, Steenee immediately puffed out its cheeks. How dare he belittle the skill it had worked so hard to learn!

"But! I have to admit this skill is indeed useful. I agree to let you participate in the battle, but you can't be too far forward, and you must obey my commands."

"Moneji~" Steenee's expression instantly went from cloudy to sunny, and it happily flew towards Ryan.

Ryan hugged it and gently stroked its calyx with his hand.

In fact, those words just now were to tease Steenee. In his heart, he was proud of Steenee.

Being able to learn the move Grassy Terrain at just level eight, even with the help of the Grass Gem, was already amazing enough to show that it had high talent.

And Steenee worked so hard to learn moves just to help him. He didn't want to let down this sincerity.

"In that case, there will be three combatants tomorrow: a level 28 Scyther, a level 18 Aron, and a level 8 Steenee."

"Scyther is the main force, Aron can play a harassing role, Steenee supports from the rear, and with my items, we should be able to deal with that Ursaring."

Ryan calculated the combat power of both sides in his mind and felt that he had a 70% chance of defeating Ursaring. Even if they couldn't win, they could definitely run away.

This reassured him a lot, but he still planned to make several backup plans, just in case. After all, he wasn't a player and didn't have the chance to revive.

Just as Ryan was still preparing for tomorrow's battle, the players had already completed their daily tasks and logged off a little earlier.

They couldn't wait to ask Old Ye what it felt like to die in the game and what the penalty mechanism was.
