Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2-A SECOND LIFELINE

I watch my work flash before my eyes. Workers have been fired for less, even all the money I have managed to scrounge all these years is not enough to pay for the bracelet I have destroyed. I crouch on the floor and starts picking the jade pieces.

"What have you done? Kiss your job goodbye." Mister Xi snarls, his hands clutch his throat, he looks fearfully at Mister Jingh'an. He runs a hand on his perfectly styled, slicked back hair, and pushes his glass up his nose.

"I'm sorry Mister Xi, I didn't mean for it to happen," "Make sure she's sacked Mister Xi. How did you get such a clumsy person to work for you?" The woman says, a cruel smile on her beautiful face.

"Yes Miss, come Aida," Mister Xi commands.I scoop the jade pieces and stuff them in my pocket, and pull my glasses off and set it on the table. I step towards mister Xi. Tears pricking my eyes, threatening to fall, but I held them back.

"Wait,"Mister Xi stops in his tracks and looks at the young master like he's sprouted another head. "She stays, mistakes are prone to happen Mister Xi, especially in this line of work. My father would understand that. She stays, and if she makes the same mistake, then she goes."

"Yes, sir." Mister Xi, nods, bowing. He releases a sigh of relief that he's not in trouble, I didn't miss the glare he sends my way. There'll be hell to pay in the coming days.I made mental note to stay out of his way, until his anger has died down.

"Are you sure sweetheart." The woman pouts, her eyes hard chips of ice settling on me.

"I am dear, we're all human, and father would understand." He pats her hand, flicks her nose. "And oh I forgot Mister Xi, we're having the company's dinner party in a week's time, make sure everyone shows up, even her. No punishment needed."

"Yes sir." Mister Xi nods, fisting his hand.Without a word he strides out of there, they followed. I crumpled to the floor, and sigh, a drop of blood perches on my finger, I've cut my self when picking the broken jade pieces on the floor. I picked my bag up and hurry out of there, hoping I don't meet mister Xi on the way out. I have had enough for today. I made my way to the parking lot, voices made me stop in my tracks, and hid behind a column, the woman who was with Mister Jingh'an before stands beside a cruiser talking to a man in a suit, he's too far out for me to made out his features.

Whatever this is, they didn't want anyone witnessing this. I have to stay hidden no matter what my instincts tell me.
