Chapter 1 - Hot tea

"Drop them on my table."

The man said in a tone that sent goosebumps over the girl in front of him.

She had been working for the man for quite some time but, she had still not gotten used to the man's attitude.

Daphne dropped them on his table and waited for his reply while standing like a statue.

She watched the man look through the file while crossing her fingers mentally that the man deemed it okay.

" It is decent."

She exhaled and let out air she didn't know she was holding.

She was glad that the man had finally accepted the file. It had been the third time she was typing everything over again. It had taken her time and she had a something to do.

" Sir."

"Yes?."

" I said I had something to do earlier today.....It is time for me to go."

" Yes you did. What is the " something" you want to do."

The man said, removing his eyes from his monitor and looking at her with narrowed eyes.

"It's a date."

" A date." His reply laced with doubt implying that he felt she was being dishonest.

"Yes sir."

"Since you are leaving early today, you will need to come in earlier tomorrow to make up the remaining hours."

" Okay.....thank you sir."

Daphne bowed her head down abit as a sign of respect and quickly rushed out of the office.

Her office was a few doors far from her boss' office door. She sat on her desk quickly trying to make sure that she arranges her things quickly.

Daphne took her bag, placed it on her shoulder and left the office.

" Hey Daphne you are going already!?."

The receptionist asked in shock. Daphne was not the type to leave the office early. Even if she wanted to, their boss was a strict person that barely allowed them to slack off. He only allowed them to leave the office if they gave a valid reason or if it was personal.

So what was the reason that Daphne was rushing in a hurry?

"I have something personal on my plate, see you tomorrow Ines."

" Okay same here." The two ladies exchanged pleasantries and Daphne stormed off heading to the company's parking lot.

She saw a car that was familiar to her and knocked on it.

" Hi!."

" Daphne! Where have you been !? I had been waiting for you.....get in."

" I am sorry Vanessa, I was occupied with something....well you have me now so let's get prepared so I can go."

Vanessa nodded and drove off

" You know,I am still grateful that you agreed to go on the blind date in place of me."

" It's fine, what are friends for?."

Vanessa was the heiress to a huge company and the only child of her parents so her father and mother were putting pressure on her to get married quickly.

They were so desperate that anytime she came for a family dinner, they would bring a presentable man to Vanessa. Vanessa of course turned the men down but her parents were always on her neck; sending men her way, reaching out to other promising families that their sons were single and setting her on blind dates like this one. Vanessa's parents were like pesky mosquitoes buzzing over her and Vanessa never hesitated to always swat the " mosquitoes" away. Vanessa did not want to get married and had avoided all the men with effort like for example; paying her friend to go on her in place of her.

Vanessa and Daphne had gotten to her penthouse, in her bedroom preparing for Daphne's outing.

" Sit down on the chair let me give you a makeover."

" Why put all this effort when the date won't even cross five minutes." Daphne said with a knowing smirk and winked at vanessa.

" I know but you still have to look good doing it."

The thing was Daphne on going on the date would do embarrassing and disrespectful actions towards the men to make them have no interest in Vanessa.

The last date Daphne went in place of Vanessa for, she spilled hot tea on the man's thigh making him walk out of the restaurant in rage. It made Vanessa have a bad reputation but she didn't care. She just wanted the men gone. But when they leave, they would go back to the parents to try for a second time. Probably because of pressure from their parents and the fact that her family was rich.

" And a finishing touch here....and we are done. Here is your bag daphne so you just go and do your thing." Vanessa said in a wide smile and Daphne smiled back. She looked at herself the mirror and smiled. Vanessa had giving her a smokey makeup look which made her icy blue eyes pop. She looked quite beautiful today.

" You look beautiful Daphne." Vanessa said with a reassuring smile and gave her a slip.

"This is were the address of the restaurant is. He said he was going to be in the vip side of the restaurant so once you show them the card I gave you earlier, they will let you in."

" Okay noted."

" Once again thank you for doing this for me." Vanessa said with gratitude because this was the fourth time Daphne was doing this. So she hoped she wasn't bothering her.

" It's okay vanessa after all, you paid for this. So it's more like a business transaction." Daphne said cheekily and smiled at her.

Vanessa smiled back and they exchanged pleasantries while Daphne waved and left for the restaurant.

Daphne had gotten to the restaurant and she realized that she was abit late so she quickened her pace. She went into the restaurant and so that it was packed with people. It was a well known exclusive and expensive place so it was hard to get a booking. It was mostly very wealthy people who could easily get a booking at the restaurant. She was familiar with the place because she remembered coming to this place with her father. Then it was something they could easily afford but not anymore.

Daphne sighed, that era was long gone. She had to get used this new one.

She went to the vip concierge of the restaurant and told him about a scheduled meeting with someone in the vip area. The concierge inspected the card and after seeing it was valid led her to the area.

She was late so Daphne, on entering the area quickly bowed her head a bit in a sign of respect.

" I am sorry for coming late I was-." Daphne raised her head and saw the person she was to go on her date with which caused her to pause a bit in shock.
