" Oh come on, don't say that." Elizebeth tried to forcibly hug Kane but he rejected it. She was soon back to pouting mode.
She was the the first to enter the office then followed by Kane. She wasted no time in making herself comfortable at her black chair that was made up of synthetic leather. In front of her was a dark brown wooden table that spanned about one metre in length and about sixty centimetres in width. Her office was filled with shelves at the left side of the room and on them were various documents. On the right was a small black couch. She patted her lap to signal Kane to come and sit there but he simply ignored it and sat on the couch instead.
" So, why did you bring me here.?" Kane cut right to the chase.
She let out a soft sigh and pulled some keys from her pocket.
" I'll coming late tonight so I wanted to leave you with the house keys." She said as she threw the bunch of keys to him.
" That all?"
" No." Elizabeth got off her chair and went towards him, giving him a hug." I also wanted us to have some alone time."
Kane took that as an indication that he should get going, and he did. Elizabeth was left all alone, pouting. Despite numerous attempts to get Kane's affection, she had always failed. That time was no different.
==========
Kane had soon arrived at the appartment he and Elizabeth lived in. As he searched for the door key, he let out a deep sigh as the events of his day slowly came back to him. He questioned how he even survived the fourth period especially when Miss Alisa was still fuming. He took hold of the fourth key and inserted it and unlocked the door. As he slowly opened it, he was hit with a sudden breeze that told him ' Welcome back'. He felt relaxed.
The house wasn't much. It had a long corridor that led to the living room straight ahead where there was a small coffee table, a fairly large white couch and a 50 inch tv. Going past the living room, one would find himself at the balcony that was accecible through a slidable ( I don't know if that's the right word) glass door. At the same living room area there was a dining table that was situated infront of the kitchen conter. The kitchen itself was accecible via a small opening at the end of the counter. About half a metre from the entrance at the right side was the bathroom. Next to it was a single bedroom that Elizabeth and Kane shared, though he mostly slept on the couch.
He took off his shoes at the doorstep and got in where he threw his bag at the couch and later on himself. He looked towards his left, where the curtains at the door to the balcony were open, and viewed the rapidly darkening sky. He didn't know why but he had a feeling that he was forgetting something important but couldn't quite put a finger at it.
He was very hungry so he thought of making himself some food. That's when memories of his last kitchen experience came back to haunt him as he remembered almost burning the whole appartment while trying to microwave a chicken. Guesse he had to fast till Elizabeth got home.
Kane opened the tv that rested on a white table and switched to his favourite channel to watch some series. He had lucked out as he found they were airing a new series called 'The Blades Saga'. Kane had previously read it's novel and had found it exciting that they were finally gonna adapt it. The only worry they had was whether or not they were gonna mess it up. As the first episode began, Kane positioned himself at an upright posture, eager to hear the introductory narration.
The date,12thApril 2025. A mysterious tower appeared at the location of the long gone Babylonian Empire. All humans were then suddenly summoned into the tower and were informed by a mysterious voice that they had been summoned there to fight for their survival. The mysterious voice called Yayu explained that if they were to have any chance of seeing the outside world again, they had to clear it and defeat the final boss, Nimrod. The man who dared opposed God.
Now humanity has to battle various monsters and bosses in order to clear the 492 floors of the Great Tower of Babel so as to go back to the outside world again.
Kane was impressed by the summary. As a book that covered three separate generations, they did a relatively good summary. As time went on, Kane was slowly being engrossed to the show as if he was knew to it.
" These guys made it even better than the novel." He said. A sudden thought came to him.
" My Zodiac deck!" He exclaimed as he remembered thet he had left his special edition Zodiac deck on the school roof during the luch break. He took out his phone and looked at the time.
" A half past nine. The school is already closed. But I can always sneak in." he said as he turned off the tv.
He locked the door and with his school uniform and a great fear of losing his deck, he made his way to school.
The streets were all empty as most people had gone to their homes and retired to their beds by then. Kane kept his hands deep into his pocket as the cold temperatures outside began getting to him. As he walked, he looked up and observed the night sky. There were lot's of stars though the moon was nowhere to be seen. Kane tried calling Elizabeth who she guessed was still at school to get her to pick up his deck but she wasn't answering.
He sighed as he dragged himself towards the school gate that was across a street ahead.
