It was just an ordinary day, just like any other. People thinking about rent, dinner, school and whatever. I would soon come to learn, this was the day, that humanity as we know it, would end.
Splat
I felt something warm splattered on my face.
"What is this?" I said out loud in confusion.
I touched it with my fingers and looked down. I couldn't believe my eyes... it was blood.
Standing frozen in shock, I noticed I saw a woman on the floor with someone having extremely sharp teeth biting the woman's neck, but something was off, something about that person was unusual, I couldn't put my finger on it.
2 police officers came running from down the street, I only caught a glimpse of them before I heard them shout "GET ON THE GROUND, NOW!"
I watched closely as they drew their guns and pointed to the man who was biting the neck of that woman.
I watched as the strange man did the opposite to what he was just ordered to do, he stood up. I watched with a bizarre look, but quickly decided that I was having none of it.
I felt a shiver run down my spine, my instincts were screaming at me to run away, so that's exactly what I did.
But almost immediately after I started to run, one of the police officers swiftly turned to face me, aiming his gun, screaming at me "FREEZE! STAY RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE OR I WILL OPEN FIRE!!"
I stopped dead in my tracks, I saw people glaring at me as if I was just as guilty as the man who had bitten the woman.
However, that was the least of my worries right now, one wrong move, and I would be shot in the heat of the moment.
I tried to rationalize what was happening, but the panic of the situation was making it impossible to think straight.
I began to say "W-what did I do?" "What's going t-"
BANG
Both me and the slim police officer were startled, I turned around and I saw the man shot, he was bleeding profusely, shot in the liver.
I stood completely still, almost as though my body had been completely surrounded by ice, unable to move.
But then I saw something unbelievable, I couldn't believe my eyes. The man was standing up, it almost seemed as though that wound didn't affect him at all.
I noticed I wasn't the only one who thought that, as the police man exclaimed "WHAT THE FUCK?!"
My ears started to ring from the sound of the other police officer shooting the man 3 more times. He hit his right arm, right shoulder and stomach.
To my absolute horror, this time, it didn't even affect him, the man kept going.
Finally, the police officer, left with no other choice, unloaded the remaining magazine into the man's body, but to no avail.
The man kept approaching, and it seemed as though he was approaching faster and faster, the fat officer was desperately trying to reload his magazine.
I watched closely, while the ringing in my ears began to lessen, as the other, slim police officer, turned around and managed to shoot the weird man just in time, causing him to fall to the floor, motionless.
For now, it seemed to have stopped moving. But why? What was that thing and what was it trying to do?
Just as the policemen sighed in relief, a sound was heard that left me and the entire surrounding crowd speechless.
Crunch
I watched as the fat policeman looked down and saw the woman from before biting his calf. He screamed in pain and dropped to the floor, the slim police officer tried to take aim, but he seemed to have a bad angle, the fat police officer appeared to be in the way, while she seemed to be sucking the blood out of the calf.
After a desperate struggle, the woman released her mouth for a moment, and then I saw it, she had extremely sharp teeth. Alongside that, I noticed that her skin colour was slightly different from that before.
In that moment I took off running once again, knowing damn well that if I didn't start running right now, I'd turn into whatever those creatures were.
While I was running faster than I had ever before, countless questions were pouring into my mind "What is happening?" "What are those things?" And the question that scared me to my very core, "Will I turn into one someday?"
But as I was running, I noticed that the screams of people didn't seem to be getting farther away, rather, they almost seemed to be following me.
I swiftly turned my head around and saw that now hundreds of people were being bitten.
Thud
I ran into a person on accident, I barely managed to stay on my feet. He immediately screamed at me "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE RUNNI-" right in the middle of his sentence, before my eyes, he got body slammed to the pavement by someone who looked eerily similar to the man with sharp teeth from before.
He panicked and once again yelled at me "STOP JUST LOOKING AND HELP ME ALREADY!!!"
After a little bit of watching them struggle for control, I decided that I didn't have time for this and took off running, but just as I began to run, I heard him being bitten and screaming in pain
With one final glance, I noticed something that I hadn't seen before. "Why? Why hadn't I noticed this before?" I thought to myself while starting to pick up my pace.
They're in fact, envenomating them I was taken aback by just how quickly the infection spread, as after just a few seconds, I saw how the person's veins were starting to pop out.
Left without a moment to think, I heard many screams in the distance, but they weren't the screams of a human, no, it was something much more sinister. Even I could tell that much.
I quickly turned my head, only to be greeted by a sight that you would typically see in a movie.
As I looked back, I saw that there were about 10 people running behind me.
At first, I breathed a huge sight of relief, thinking to myself "At least I'm not the only one left, whatever is happening!".
But I noticed a little glint from the corner of my eye, I looked a little bit closer and noticed that they had the same sharp teeth. In fact, ALL of them did!
"FUCK! WHAT IS HAPPENING!?" I screamed out in despair, starting to feel exhausted from running as fast I could for as long as I had.
I suddenly realised that I knew this area, my apartment was nearby, so I dashed for it with what energy I had left.
It felt like with every passing second more and more people were chasing me.
Absolutely exhausted, I made it to the building and SLAMMED the heavy metal door behind me.
Not even 3 seconds later I heard more and more people crashing into the apartment's door. I noticed that they were beginning to break the door.
