You don't need to escape. You just need to be in two places at once.
That 'I' smiled. "Fortunately, that's exactly what we are."
Ji-hoon hesitated. Then… stepped back.
Mentally.
He let go. Let that 'I' take over.
Like slipping underwater. Still aware. But drifting.
And that 'I' moved.
Quick. Silent. Focused.
The nurse came. Syringe ready.
"He feels your judgment is compromised."
No time.
Now or never.
That 'I' took control. Knocked the syringe free. Pinned her gently to the wall.
"I'm not going to hurt you. But I'm leaving."
Ji-hoon watched, stunned, from inside his own body.
She nodded. Terrified.
"Count to one hundred," he whispered. Then gone.
Through service halls. Staff stairs. Out the back exit.
Free. But not safe.
Taxi. Address from the note.
An abandoned lab. Overgrown. Forgotten. Hidden.
Inside: a panel. A box.
Dust. Cold metal.
Inside—USBs. Journals. A letter with his name.
Hands trembling. Ji-hoon read.
"Dear Ji-hoon, If you're reading this… That 'I' inside you isn't what Kang claims."
"It's not him. It's not you. It's something else."
A third consciousness.
Born between the donor and the host.
"You're unique. That's why they want to control you."
Ji-hoon felt the world shift.
Not Kang. Not me.
Something new.
