Chapter 44 - Chapter 44: Meeting

'Wanqing, are you not feeling well? Your face looks a bit pale,' Lin Nuoyi asked. These should have been words of concern, but they lacked some warmth.

Xu Wanqing's heart skipped a beat. She knew that Lin Nuoyi was dissatisfied with her and was using a form of 'cold comfort' to warn her.

'Yes, I haven't rested well, and I caught a chill at night,' Xu Wanqing said weakly, smiling and touching her pale face. She stood up, intending to apologize and then leave.

However, before she could speak, Lin Nuoyi took out a bottle of blue medicine and told her to take it, asking her to rest there and not planning to let her go.

Xu Wanqing's heart almost leaped out of her chest when she saw the thumb-sized crystal bottle filled with blue liquid, similar to what Mu had in his hand.

Not long ago, eighteen extraordinary people had taken it!

What did this mean? Xu Wanqing's heart tightened with tension and anxiety, growing increasingly uneasy.

'This is a new type of special medicine that can enhance immunity and human vitality. It will work quickly once taken,' Lin Nuoyi said calmly.

Xu Wanqing was somewhat startled, taking it into her hands and examining it again and again. It wasn't the same medicine; this one was slightly lighter in color, but it still made her extremely nervous.

'Wanqing, what exactly did you do? Don't hide anything from me. You know my character,' Lin Nuoyi stared at her.

Xu Wanqing smiled, but her heart turned cold. Thinking of all the possibilities, she shivered slightly. Even though Lin Nuoyi couldn't possibly be with Chu Feng, she didn't want him to encounter any accidents.

If Chu Feng died, it would be fine, as Bodi Gene and Vajra were there to cover everything up. However, what frightened her was that he was still alive.

'During our last conversation, I quarreled with Chu Feng, saying he wasn't worthy of you. I think he must hate me very much,' Xu Wanqing said softly, glancing at Lin Nuoyi. 'I think he's not suitable for you; you two belong to different worlds.'

She used partial lies to buy time, even if Chu Feng came, she would use this to argue and deny the things she had done.

'You've disappointed me!' Lin Nuoyi said indifferently, revealing no sign of her true feelings.

Xu Wanqing felt uneasy, sensing something was wrong. Lin Nuoyi was too intelligent; even without evidence or confirmation, she might already have suspicions.

At that moment, Lin Nuoyi's communicator rang.

'The girl you sent to pick me up was killed by a rocket on the way,' Chu Feng's voice came through.

Lin Nuoyi had guessed something, but she hadn't expected it to be so serious. She turned abruptly, looking at Xu Wanqing with eyes like beams of light.

Xu Wanqing gasped as those eyes pierced her, making her eyes hurt and her heart race.

At the same time, hearing Chu Feng's words confirmed that he was indeed alive.

How could this be? He wasn't in the car at the time? This realization terrified Xu Wanqing while also filling her with resentment. Why hadn't he died? If Chu Feng disappeared, everything would be erased.

Some people always look for reasons outside themselves.

'Mu will definitely save me!' Xu Wanqing prayed silently. She did all this to help Mu.

'Uncle Qian, take her away. Don't forget she's an extraordinary person. Use the latest alloy material shackles,' Lin Nuoyi said calmly.

Xu Wanqing froze instantly, her face turning deathly pale. Terrified and scared, her ears buzzed.

She knew only those who committed unforgivable crimes among extraordinary people would be treated like this. Once these rare metal alloy shackles were put on, there was no escape, and severe punishment awaited.

An elderly man with a kind appearance entered, usually amiable but now somewhat stern, faithfully executing Lin Nuoyi's orders.

'Nuoyi, how can you treat me like this?' Xu Wanqing cried out.

'You're my assistant. I trusted you to handle various matters under circumstances where I couldn't communicate with the outside world. But you crossed my bottom line!' Lin Nuoyi said coldly.

Tall and beautiful, Lin Nuoyi even made Xu Wanqing envious. When angry, her cold demeanor became even more distant and striking.

Despite being beautiful herself, Xu Wanqing felt inferior, unable to speak under Lin Nuoyi's imposing presence.

With a wave, Lin Nuoyi signaled Uncle Qian to take her away.

'Chu Feng, where are you? I'll come to get you,' Lin Nuoyi called him.

'I'm already in the county town.'

'I originally wanted you to treat me to local specialties, but now it seems I'll treat you,' Lin Nuoyi said.

Chu Feng understood she was hinting at something, perhaps expressing an apology.

He gave an address, and soon, Lin Nuoyi parked a red car by the roadside, saying, 'Get in.'

Examining it, Chu Feng said, 'Red? Doesn't quite match your cold beauty. I thought your car would be blue.'

'As usual, joking around,' Lin Nuoyi smiled faintly, dressed casually in shorts and a T-shirt, far from luxury and brands.

Soon, they arrived at a restaurant.

It was quiet inside, playing soothing music, with crystal chandeliers and marble floors. Not comparable to big cities, but it was considered a good environment in the county town.

The place was mainly clean and tidy.

Getting out of the car, they walked side by side into the restaurant. Chu Feng naturally noticed her casual attire of shorts and a T-shirt.

However, this casualness highlighted her figure: 170 centimeters tall, with straight, well-proportioned legs, dazzlingly white.

'What's wrong?' Lin Nuoyi glanced at him.

'It's been a long time. My eyes are dazzled by you. Let me take a closer look,' Chu Feng smiled.

Lin Nuoyi had no defense against this; he could make the most shameless remarks sound righteous. He could be honest, yet also outrageous.

'You haven't changed,' Lin Nuoyi said with a smile. She didn't dislike Chu Feng's personality; their acquaintance began precisely because of this.

In school, who would dare provoke her? Her admirers were cautious, fearing her displeasure. Due to her cold demeanor, nine out of ten wouldn't even have the courage to approach.

Only Chu Feng, upon first meeting, acted outrageously, snatching her seat and folding her paper into a plane, blowing it out the window right in front of her.

Though annoying at the time, she couldn't bring herself to be truly angry, which led to their familiarity.

'Come, let me see if you've changed,' Chu Feng smiled more boldly, looking her over from head to toe.

'Enough teasing, sit down!' Despite her cold demeanor and rarely seen smiles, Lin Nuoyi couldn't help but slightly lift the corners of her mouth, putting away her cold beauty.

'A smile suits you so well, pleasing to the eye!' Chu Feng said, pulling out a chair for her and gently pressing her shoulders to sit.

Nearby, Uncle Qian raised his eyebrows slightly but pretended not to notice, leisurely looking out the window.

'Sorry!' Lin Nuoyi whispered after sitting down.

'Don't be like that. I'm fine. It's just a pity about that girl,' Chu Feng shook his head.

'Yes, I'll compensate her family,' Lin Nuoyi frowned slightly. Though she seldom smiled, her heart wasn't cold.

Chu Feng nodded.

'Have you encountered any dangers recently?' Lin Nuoyi asked.

'A woman whose palms grow vines, a bat, a spider, four scaly monsters, and a group of gunmen have all sought me out,' Chu Feng said casually.

Lin Nuoyi sat up straight, her eyes glowing brightly, looking at Uncle Qian and instructing him to keep a close watch on Xu Wanqing, allowing no one near.

'Alright!' Uncle Qian went out to give instructions.

'I'll give you an explanation,' Lin Nuoyi looked seriously at Chu Feng.

'What do you plan to do with her?' Chu Feng asked.

Lin Nuoyi smoothed her hair, revealing her fair forehead, her beautiful eyes slightly cold. 'She has gone too far. First, we'll revoke her status as an extraordinary person.'

Chu Feng was surprised; could someone's status as an extraordinary person be revoked?

'But please understand, the subsequent severe punishment requires time. My uncle is about to marry her sister and has asked me to take care of her. I need to communicate with my uncle,' Lin Nuoyi patiently explained.

'What's the harshest punishment?' Chu Feng asked further, genuinely detesting that woman.

'The harshest punishment is that she will never appear again,' Lin Nuoyi said.

Chu Feng nodded. 'But I'm a bit worried. The person who saved me has a short temper. I fear he might act first.'

Surprise flashed across Lin Nuoyi's eyes. With her cold elegance, such curiosity was rare. 'I've always wanted to ask, who helped you? Of course, if it's inconvenient, you don't have to say.'

'A friend of my parents. You know, our family lives in the giant city to the north. I only return here during holidays. Recently, strange people have appeared, including my parents' friend, who has become strong. The two elders miss me, but the journey is too dangerous. My parents asked that friend to find me and take me to the northern giant city,' Chu Feng explained.

He felt it was better to stay low-key. The high-profile extraordinary people were all killed by him in one breath, too tragic!

In this era, quietly laying low and getting stronger surpassed early bragging.

He didn't intend to use his ability to defeat extraordinary people to attract Lin Nuoyi or try to win her back.

Like is like, unlike is unlike; it should be pure, not related to strength, identity, or status.

Perhaps idealistic, but this was his pursuit and belief, not wanting to leverage sudden power for gains.

'Such a person exists?' Lin Nuoyi nodded.

'He opposed me getting in the car this morning, saving me from disaster,' Chu Feng sighed.

At this moment, Lin Nuoyi's communicator rang. It was a young man named Mu.

After answering, she heard a serious tone.

'Nuoyi, we may have to confront Bodhi Gene sooner than expected. Today, Vajra attacked, wiping out a significant force, killing eighteen extraordinary people despite them taking the latest medicine,' he informed her.

'I understand,' Lin Nuoyi hung up.

She tapped the table lightly, deep in thought. In silence, her beautiful face became even more captivating, fair and radiant.

'Is something difficult happening?' Chu Feng asked.

'One of the top figures among extraordinary people, Vajra, ambushed and killed eighteen extraordinary people from Tian Shen Bio. Coincidentally, it happened along the route where the car picking you up was attacked,' Lin Nuoyi smiled.

Her beautiful pupils gleamed, then she looked at Chu Feng. 'Tell me, was the person behind you the one who killed those eighteen extraordinary people? I won't blame him.'

'Vajra? That kid... did great!' Chu Feng exclaimed, completely unexpected.

He continued, 'The person helping me didn't participate, staying with me until sending me to the county town. Only when passing by did he see the explosion, confirming someone intended harm, but he didn't get involved.'

'I believe those eighteen extraordinary people initially meant harm to me, but unfortunately, they met Vajra,' Chu Feng said, enough to convey his point.

Now avoiding entanglement, he preferred watching from the sidelines, letting those who wanted to kill him deal with Vajra.

'Vajra, I don't owe you anything. Those damned people blamed you. Thank you!' Chu Feng sincerely appreciated Vajra's actions.

Lin Nuoyi looked at him, deciding not to delve deeper.

'What do you want to eat?' she smiled, her lips and teeth shining.

However, Chu Feng's next words ruined the atmosphere.

He shouted loudly, 'Boss, bring me ten pounds of beef first!'

Lines of annoyance appeared on Lin Nuoyi's fair forehead. Fortunately, this wasn't a high-end restaurant, and no one else was around, or it would've been embarrassing.

'Are you a starving ghost?' she scolded, but couldn't help laughing.

'You don't know how much I've missed beef lately. I couldn't get any, craving it so badly I'd drool thinking about it!' Chu Feng said earnestly.

Lin Nuoyi laughed, 'Alright, liking meat is good. I'll order various types for you to eat your fill.'

'No, I only want beef!' Chu Feng firmly refused.

Looking at his serious expression, Lin Nuoyi couldn't help laughing. He was always so relaxed, never pretending to be refined, sometimes playfully.

However, this time she misunderstood Chu Feng. He genuinely craved beef, having been deprived of it since a certain ox demon joined his household.
