Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Fear

In a certain mansion within the county.

Sunlight poured through the French windows, casting light onto the spacious living room where a man and a woman sat in silence.

Xu Wanqing's face was pale. She had heard the conversation just now; the voice on the other end of the communicator was desperate, delivering shocking news.

All the mutants were dead, all killed. What kind of outcome was this? Truly terrifying!

Eighteen mutants together, all wiped out by one person—what a frightening feat! The news would surely cause a sensation if it got out.

Such a glorious achievement heralded the rise of a great master!

Moreover, these eighteen mutants had taken new types of potions, significantly boosting their combat abilities, yet they still met with defeat under such circumstances, making it even more terrifying.

Xu Wanqing stood there in a daze. Not long ago, she had been playing a cheerful tune, feeling happy. But now, all she felt was worry and horror.

If that person came for revenge, could she defend herself?

Eighteen mutants, plus heavy weapons and armed helicopters, none of it managed to kill him. Instead, he slaughtered everyone.

"Monster!" Her face pale, she muttered these two words. Indeed, he was a monster, powerful and terrifying, causing her unease and palpitations.

Especially when she recalled how the call suddenly cut off—it sent chills down her spine. The person on the other end screamed in fear, and then the sound abruptly stopped, like a death knell.

Mu remained silent, saying nothing.

He walked to the French window, gazing at the horizon for a long time without moving. This result was too sudden.

"Why did this happen?"

He turned around sharply, his face cold, a heart-wrenching light flashing deep in his eyes, making the entire spacious living room feel chilly.

This outcome was truly terrible for him, worsening his mood to its lowest point. Those were eighteen mutants, an important force under his command, all dead?

"What exactly happened? Who can tell me!" Mu suppressed his voice.

His handsome face devoid of smiles, unable to maintain calmness, now appeared stern and menacing, unlike his usual gentlemanly demeanor.

Xu Wanqing also whispered, "How could something like this happen? Who is he, and how could he kill those mutants who took the new potion?!"

Crash!

Mu smashed the wine glass heavily onto the floor, shards scattering everywhere as he couldn't help but let out a low roar.

"Damn it!" He roared.

Earlier, he had been calm and collected, wearing a gentle smile, not caring about the matter, believing that person was sure to die, the outcome already determined.

But now, he clenched his fists, his face livid, barely concealing his anger. For him, this was an unforgivable failure, a significant loss.

"Mu, don't get angry. Think of a solution quickly, how to resolve this," Xu Wanqing said, trying to stay composed, though deep down she was terrified because the incident had escalated due to her.

If that person sought revenge, she would be the first target.

Another person entered the living room, an elder about fifty years old, with a gaunt appearance. Standing there, he said, "Mu, this isn't your fault. No one could have predicted this outcome."

He made sense. Eighteen mutants attacking together, enhanced by new potions, should have easily swept aside any opposition. Killing someone was simple.

Not every mutant in this world could match Diamond!

Such a formidable lineup ambushing a lone mutant wouldn't leave much suspense, ensuring absolute victory.

"What went wrong? Uncle Wen, send people to investigate. I want detailed results. I'm not satisfied!" Mu said grimly, his fingers turning blue from clenching.

"Could it really be Diamond? Some of Buddha Gene's forces weren't active in that area?" Xu Wanqing asked.

Uncle Wen paused but didn't respond immediately. Following Mu's instructions, he ordered immediate investigation of the site to determine the cause of death for the eighteen mutants.

Mu frowned, suspecting whether it was indeed Diamond, wondering if he had already arrived.

However, according to reports, this invincible mutant was still en route and wouldn't arrive until tonight at the earliest.

"Investigate whether Diamond has secretly arrived," Mu said coldly.

Uncle Wen nodded, starting to mobilize resources to thoroughly investigate the movements of key figures from Buddha Gene.

A small helicopter took off, swiftly heading towards the mountain forest eighty miles away to investigate the deaths of the eighteen mutants and gather clues from the scene.

Though these investigators weren't top-tier experts, they were experienced.

Upon entering the forest, they felt a chill. All eighteen mutants had their necks sliced open, thirteen of them decapitated.

Clearly, they were killed by one person, decisively and powerfully. Judging from the scene, only a few had engaged in fierce battles.

The rest were no match, quickly beheaded. This result chilled them to the bone.

"Could it really be Diamond?" someone trembled.

Apart from Diamond and three others, who else among mutants had such individual combat prowess?

After carefully searching the forest, they found no significant clues left behind by that person, who seemed to have erased many traces afterward.

Back in the county mansion.

Mu received the report, his face dark as water.

"Eighteen mutants were decapitated by sharp weapons, all with identical fatal injuries. That person was overwhelmingly dominant," Uncle Wen read from the report.

"I've heard Diamond wields two weapons: one is a demon-subduing pestle, rarely used, and the other is a sword, extremely sharp," Xu Wanqing added.

At this moment, someone delivered a confidential report. Uncle Wen's expression changed upon reading it.

"What? Diamond really arrived early this morning?" Xu Wanqing read the report and was stunned.

"Diamond has come!" Mu was enraged, his face contorted. With a palm strike on the table, it shattered with a loud bang.

He couldn't maintain his composure, now consumed by anger. Diamond's arrival meant what? Perhaps only he could explain everything.

Who else had such capability? A single stroke of Buddha Sword could slay eighteen mutants, even after taking new potions.

Such a huge loss!

"According to reliable sources, Diamond indeed went out into the mountains after arriving, but hasn't returned," Uncle Wen said.

"Diamond, you're not getting away with this!" Mu shouted, his eyes filled with murderous intent, completely abandoning his usual elegance.

"What about that person? Did he never reach there?" Xu Wanqing wondered, puzzled why the figure behind Chu Feng hadn't shown up.

She felt slightly relieved. With Diamond involved, it concerned Buddha Gene versus Divine Creature Bio's conflict. Chu Feng's death in that region was just bad luck!

Two giants clashed, high-level fighters fought, and an ordinary person passing by met an unfortunate end—who could blame whom? Just bad luck.

Xu Wanqing sighed, thinking there was no problem. Even the expert behind Chu Feng wouldn't know the truth, probably resigned to fate.

In the mountains, Chu Feng traveled fast, gradually slowing down as he approached the county town.

"That woman was too vicious. Simply killing her would be too lenient," he muttered.

Chu Feng thought of the woman who had offered him a ride, so young with freckles, innocent and smiling. When he refused to go with her, she looked lost. Yet, she died so tragically, along with her car being blown apart.

"Insane!" Chu Feng's eyes blazed with fury.

Though ruthless when dealing with enemies, he had a soft spot, especially hating to see the weak and kind-hearted bullied.

"Killing you quickly would be too merciful. Before that, you'll suffer in fear," Chu Feng despised that wicked woman deeply.

He took out his communicator and contacted Lin Nuoyi.

The call connected quickly.

Chu Feng asked directly who had been using Lin Nuoyi's communicator a few days ago.

Lin Nuoyi asked what was going on, but Chu Feng hung up without explanation.

Soon, Xu Wanqing left the mansion and headed to Lin Nuoyi's place.

"Wanqing, did Chu Feng talk to you?" Lin Nuoyi, stunningly beautiful, stood by the window looking afar.

"Oh yes, we talked briefly before hanging up when he realized I wasn't you," Xu Wanqing replied casually.

"Really? Are you hiding something from me?" Lin Nuoyi turned, her long hair cascading down her neck, her exquisite face showing a hint of coldness, giving Xu Wanqing pressure.

"No," Xu Wanqing feigned surprise.

"Based on my understanding of Chu Feng, something must be up," Lin Nuoyi stated.

"Has he arrived? What did he say? Is he petty over last time?" Xu Wanqing asked nonchalantly, knowing that person would never appear again.

"He hasn't arrived, but during our call, I sensed more than just resentment towards you," Lin Nuoyi stared at her.

"Just now?!" Xu Wanqing almost dropped her teacup in fright but recovered quickly.

Lin Nuoyi's beautiful face showed a faint smile, "Tell me."

"There's nothing," Xu Wanqing tried to stay calm, but inside, she was terrified. That person wasn't dead?

What had happened? She felt anxious and fearful. Was Chu Feng coming?

At that moment, her mind raced, trembling with various thoughts. Was he alive? This...was terrifying!

Xu Wanqing instantly thought of many possibilities, ultimately feeling a chill down her spine, cold and numb.

She was scared and panicked. What should she do? She wanted to leave, but Lin Nuoyi was watching her.

"Chu Feng will arrive soon," Lin Nuoyi said, although Chu Feng hadn't specified when or if he'd come.

Because she sensed Chu Feng harboring anger.

Instantly, Xu Wanqing broke out in cold sweat. Chu Feng was coming? And she could only wait here, unable to escape, a painful and terrifying ordeal.

Terrifying, she felt everything was exposed. Even with her sister's protection, the price might be enormous."
