Chapter 4 - Merchant

"I wandered around, exploring the market, which coincidentally had a caravan from various regions. I pondered what to buy and what I could sell. However, a particular cart caught my attention. It was the largest, offering a wide array of goods, including spices, accessories, swords, and more.

As I approached, a young man, probably around 16 or 17 years old, appeared before me.

'Hi! What are you looking for? Take a look at our wares! We have a wide selection, and you might find what you need. We have the largest cart here, and it's owned by the Arcane Company, one of the top three biggest merchant companies in the Eldoria Empire!' he said energetically, smiling.

I examined the items on his cart. I noticed whole peppercorns, sugar, a small mirror with a somewhat blurry reflection, likely due to their less developed technology, and some clothing. I touched the fabric, finding it rather rough compared to cotton shirts.

'We use high-quality fabric for all our clothing. This is the kind worn by officials, scholars, and some barons and viscounts. It's only two grades below the fabric used by the imperial and aristocratic families,' he explained, still smiling.

'How much are the peppercorns, sugar, chili powder, mirror, and clothing?' I asked.

'Peppercorns and chili powder are 1 silver coin per 10 grams, sugar is 15 silver coins per 100 grams, mirrors are 3 silver coins each, and the clothing is 2 silver co...' He stopped mid-sentence, noticing my shirt. He grabbed it and examined it closely, his eyes widening in surprise.

'Mister, where did you get this clothing?!' he asked, his expression still shocked.

'I'll buy that shirt from you for 4 silver coins! No, 5 silver coins!' he said excitedly. I remembered I had a mirror in my dimensional storage. I pretended to reach into my pocket, whispering, 'Mirror Gain.'

'How much would you pay for a mirror like this?' I pulled out the pocket-sized mirror and showed it to him.

'It's small, but the reflection is incredibly clear. It could sell for 4 silver coins. Larger mirrors like ours could fetch 8 to 10 silver coins,' he explained eagerly.

'Would you buy this from me?' he asked.

'Do you also buy peppercorns, sugar, and chili powder?' I asked him.

'If we can find a source. Our next shipment isn't until next month, and we only have 2 kg of peppercorns, 1 kg of chili powder, and 5 kg of sugar left,' he said, sounding a little downcast.

'How many kilograms do you need?' He was taken aback by my question. He suddenly shouted, looking towards someone in the distant.

'Paaaa!' he yelled, calling out to a middle-aged man who approached upon hearing him.

'What is it?' he asked, puzzled.

'This gentleman is asking how many kilograms of sugar, peppercorns, and chili powder we need. He seems to have a lot of stock. And look at this mirror!' he explained excitedly.

The man looked confused as he took the mirror. His expression briefly changed, but he quickly regained his composure.

'Ahem! How many kilograms do you have?' he asked me.

'How many kilograms do you need?' I countered, not answering his question. He stared at me for a moment before replying.

'10 kg of peppercorns, 10 kg of chili powder, and 20 kg of sugar.'

'What's your price per kilogram?' I asked.

'80 silver coins per kilogram for peppercorns and chili powder, and 1 gold and 20 silver coins per kilogram for sugar.' I mentally calculated the figures, feeling a mix of excitement, joy, and nervousness. Just the 20 kg of sugar could earn me over ₱950,000, not including the peppercorns and chili powder. I didn't show my excitement.

'Let's meet at the Flora Inn in three hours,' I said, as I noticed it was next to the Merchant Guild and I planned to stay there.

'Mister, do you also have fabric like your shirt and mirrors with the same quality as ours, but larger?' the young man asked, nudging me and showing me the small mirror.

'How many meters of fabric and how many mirrors do you need?' I asked him, curious about his enthusiasm. I used my Appraisal skill.

Name: Elian Silverwood (Merchant Master Prodigy)

Age: 16

"Business Genius"

"Charismatic"

Favorability towards you: 85%

'Oh, a Business Genius and Merchant Master Prodigy. His father must be the caravan leader. What if I hired him? Would he agree? Hmm...'

'Do you have red, blue, and white fabric?' he asked. I nodded.

'20 meters of red, blue, and white, and 5 mirrors,' he said excitedly. I turned to his father, asking for his approval. He nodded.

'We sell clothing for 2 silver coins, but because your fabric is high quality, we'll buy it for 2 silver and 40 copper coins per meter. We'll pay 6 silver coins per mirror,' Elian's father said. I nodded in agreement.

'Let's meet at the Flora Inn in three hours,' I said, about to leave.

'Mister, wait, your mirror!' Elian called after me.

'Keep it. It's a gift for our first meeting,' I said with a smile and left.

I set the meeting for three hours because I estimated it was around 3 PM. I'd use one hour to explore more, and the other two to spend two days on Earth. After about 30 minutes of wandering, I headed to the Flora Inn. A middle-aged woman was at the counter.

'How much is a room per night?' I asked.

'2 silver coins per night,' she replied gently, smiling.

'For three nights,' I said, handing her 6 silver coins. A young girl, about 8 years old, escorted me to my room.

Upon reaching the room, I gave her 50 copper coins, and I thanked her for her assistance.

She was a little surprised but accepted it, saying, 'Thank you, mister,' and ran off happily.

I closed the door and lay on the bed for a moment. I checked my remaining money: 2 gold coins, 27 silver coins, and 50 copper coins, which was equivalent to about ₱91,000. I smiled, thinking about how much I could earn in Eldorath.

I decided to return to Earth to rest. 'Gate.'
