We're now in the plane waiting for take off. Eva is on my lap excited to see Ryujin too. Last night, it's like I didn't exist. Ryujin read so many stories to Eva that we didn't even get a chance to talk because I fell asleep.
"This is my first time going to Michigan" Karina says.
"It's all our first time. What are you talking about?" I look at her weirdly.
"I'm just excited to watch the Red Wings game. Yeji, you have the best girlfriend" Travis says. I smile at them. I don't know how I'm still not used to this. My family actually liking someone I'm dating.
Then I remember that I'm gonna he meeting her family. My hands start sweating at the thought of it. We're gonna have dinner together tonight with her family. We're gonna arrive there at around 3 pm and she said her house is almost a two hour drive from the airport.
"I really hope her parents will like me" I say.
"I'm sure they will. They seem pretty chill" I'm shock by her statement.
"How do you know?" I give her my serious look.
"You do realize Ryujin and I talk right? I ask about her family because duh you're dating her. I have that right, as your sister, to interrogate her" she proudly claims.
The plane finally takes off and Eva is clapping. She suddenly yawns and tells me she's sleepy. I chuckle at her cuteness but she does lay her head on my chest and falls asleep right away.
This is gonna he a long flight staying in one position.
"Does her parents know that you're pregnant?" My sister suddenly ask.
"Shit. I don't think so. What if that's the reason they won't like me? It's different with Eva. She was already 1 when we met. I got pregnant while their daughter and I were talking to each other" I panic.
"Okay, probably shouldn't have brought that up" my sister says to herself.
"Yeji, why are you so stressed about it? I'm sure Ryujin got her kindness from her parents. You have us and her to back you up whenever" Travis joins.
"Woah, who are you?" I ask with a smirk.
"What?" He looks confuse.
"We've always gotten along but you've always kept it to yourself but now you're actually helping deal with my craziness" I laugh.
"Because I never liked any of the guys you dated and it wasn't my place to say anything. Also back then you're really mean and cold. You're different since Ryujin came along, you're mood is different. You're not always grumpy about everything" he says.
"I'm sorry about that. I honestly didn't realize I've been that type of person. I was just trying to make it through my daily life without constantly breaking down" I sigh.
"I get it. That's why I'm happy for you that you found someone like her. I think she's exactly what you need to help you get out of your head" he says while smiling at me.
"Thanks Travis. I'm glad to know my sister has a good man" I smile back at him.
The rest of the flight was quiet. Travis and Karina slept the whole time while I panit the closer we got to Michigan.
We finally land and the people clap. Never understood that, like are we celebrating we didn't die? Are we clapping for the pilot for flying the plane? Or are we just giving random round of applause? What is the reason?
We get off the plane and I check my phone. Ryujin says she's waiting in the baggage claim area. I look around and it's a pretty big airport. I look at the signs and see that the baggage claim is the floor below us. I take my carry on and head towards the escalator.
I look around for Ryujin but I don't see her. Finally I find her and she's holding a sign. I close my eyes and the four of us approach her. When we were close enough, I see the sign she's holding that says 'Three pretty ladies and Travis', my sister laughs seeing the sign.
Eva finally sees Ryujin and ask to be put down. Eva runs to her. Ryujin picks her up and gives her a big hug. The three of us follow not far behind. Ryujin smiles at me and hugs me with her free arm then gives me a kiss on the lips. How did that feel so natural for us even though we haven't seen each other for weeks?
"We're here too" Karina sarcastically say.
"I know. I was getting there" Ryujin laughs.
"How many bags are we waiting for?" Ryujin looks at us.
"3 in total" my sister says and Ryujin nods.
"You had a good flight?" I see her looking at me.
"Yes. I'm really nervous to meet your parents though" I admit. I know I keep saying it but I am nervous.
"Don't be. They'll love you" She holds my hand while she's still carrying Eva.
We get our bags and follow Ryujin to the parking lot.
"You drive a truck?" Travis says in shock stopping in front of a truck.
"Yes? What's wrong with that?" Ryujin ask with a raise brow.
"I just figured you'd need a step ladder to get on because you're too short" Travis laughs.
"How about I tie you on the hood and you can ride there?" Ryujin gives him a devious smile.
"You two stop. Let's get going" Karina says to them.
Travis and Ryujin load the bags in the back while I buckle up Eva in her car seat When they were done, Ryujin gets in the driver seat and Travis in the passenger seat. I decided to sit at the back with my sister and Eva so if Eva needed something I can easily tend to her.
"Nice truck you have here" Travis starts a conversation with Ryujin.
"Thanks. It gets the job done" Ryujin answers.
"Your parents know that we're coming too right? That it's not just Eva artd Yeji?" My sister ask.
"Yes. They're aware of you and lover boy over here" Ryujin laughs.
I stay quiet and I just enjoy the moment. I love how comfortable they are with each other.
"Yeji, my mom is really looking forward to meeting you. I've showed her some pictures of you and she couldn't believe it. She said you look really beautiful" she says to me and now I'm a blushing mess.
"You look really beautiful today by the way" she says making me blush even more.
"Is it hot in here? Can you turn on the AC?" I ask.
"It's already on?" Ryujin say.
"Well I think your truck is broken I roll my eyes.She laughs because she knows I'm being ridiculous. "Why is Eva so quiet?" Ryujin looks through the rear view mirror.
"She's asleep. We don't travel a lot like this so her body is not used to it" I explain.
"Ahh. Dinner will be at 6 or 6:30. I'll drop you off at the cottage so you can relax for about an hour or so before dinner. Sounds good?" She ask everyone.
We all say yes and my nerves hit me again. I tell myself I can do this. Ryujin loves me and she will be there for me. It's okay if I make a fool of myself just don't do anything rude.
Karina is asleep now too. Travis and Ryujin are talking about hockey and some other things I don't really know about. I look out the window checking everything out. I imagine myself living here, would I be happy?
