Chapter 4 - Episode 3: Blood Fruit

Malachi and Angel walked through the hallway of the large mansion. It's former appearance of a decaying aged mansion magically transformed to a functioning tidy mansion.

Malachi walked beside Angel, feeling the texture of the wall and furniture as if reminiscing past memories with it.

"Have you finally calmed down Angel?"

Malachi asked gently with smile.

"Somewhat, parts of me is still saying that this still could be all a dream I could wake up from."

Angel replied, whilst following Malachi through the strange unending hallway.

"Its a part of fate you must come to accept. You are a vampire due to drinking my brother's blood."

Malachi said.

"Your brother? Then... the skeleton I saw on that coffin, was that your brother?"

Angel turned his head to Malachi beside him.

"Yes. He was my brother, a big brother I once looked up to."

Malachi replied, with a soft feeling of resentment.

"Angel, I'll tell you this as you are now a vampire, as part of the fault is from us for not thinking of the possibility an intruder would enter."

Angel tries to listen carefully.

"If you wish to continue your life normally, there are blood fruits in the courtyard. Consume three daily, it will satisfy your thirst for blood for the whole day."

Malachi answers.

"Blood fruits?"

Angel asked, tilting his head confused.

"Blood fruits, this is what they look like."

Malachi answers, pulling out a red human heart-shaped fruit with a smile.

"T-that's a fruit?"

Angel took a step back, trying to identify which part of it looks like fruit.

"Here, have a taste."

Malachi breaks the blood fruit in half with his strength.

As it opened, the blood fruit contained small seeds similar to a dragon fruit.

"This tastes like... Jin."

Angel stopped his vomit from going out, due to remembering Jin's torn and bloodied figure, with his eyes glowing red.

"Its okay, there's no need to hold it in."

Malachi says.

Angel swallows his vomit back and looked at Malachi with tears.

"It's okay, I'm fine."

Malachi took a bite as he stared at Angel's crimson eyes.

"If you don't want to feast on your family, then I suggest you take this fruit instead of them."

They continued to walk the hallway.

Soon after, the illusion was disrupted as the butler Augustus exits the room.

"Prince, lady Airi has been sent successfully to her chambers. Her memories of today's event has been erased as well."

Augustus lowers his head in front of Malachi.

"I see, thank you for sending her back home. You even did it without my order."

Malachi smiles in gratitude.

"Come Angel, I'll need to tell you everything you must know."

Malachi gestures Angel to follow him.

Angel followed him with pure curiosity in mind, letting his excitement of entering a new world dominate.

In the past, 3000 years ago, there was once a man named Cain. He was once a human, a human filled with ambition, so much that he went as far as delving inside the realm of forbidden taboo.

His actions lead to a horrible consequence, a plague that engulfed the kingdom. Everyone turned on each other, friends, family or even loved ones, everybody became cannibals to their flesh.

But, as he made a problem, he also created a solution. As he was the only who suppressed his bloodlust, he shared that trait to all the people by sharing his own blood, allowing the people regain their sanity. But, even after the heartfelt created solution, everybody hated him.

Many people lost their family and friends, only because of his stupid actions. Soon after that, the State of Magistry, a government that wields an unnatural power, deemed the people of the kingdom along with the royal bloodline to be demons.

To counter it, Cain shared the news towards the people. The people felt hatred at first, but they couldn't allow the thought of death enter. As so, they united under Cain's rule and formed the Vampire faction.

They fought valiantly, in hopes the State of Magistry understood their situation. With Cain's natural ability for negotiation, the war ceased.

After the war, the people became hungry as they couldn't consume the food with the same taste anymore. They would vomit the food they consumed, saying that it tasted like dirt.

As Cain heard of the matter, he mobilized a team of researchers to find a way for the people to obtain sustenance without the reliance for blood.

And, that is when the blood fruit was discovered.

The blood fruit was a product of the plague's virus and certain fruits mixing with each other through hemoglobin synthesis.

"You mean, due to the plague's virus, it caused the plant to mutate and synthesize a protein similar to hemoglobin?"

Angel replies uncertainly.

"Yes, correct. That protein then gave the fruit its crimson color and blood-like nutritional properties. Allowing us to consume food without the use for humans."

Malachi answered.

"This should be enough Angel, if you wish to know more. You are free to come back anytime you wish."

Malachi opened the entrance door, the sky almost dark and the sun almost completely setting.

"Thank you. I'll try to come back tomorrow."

Angel bows his head and exited the mansion, not knowing the abilities he's obtained.

Midnight, at the top of the mansion's roof. Malachi holds an tablet on his arms, as it rings.

"Madame. You've called."

Malachi answered the call.

"Uncle Malachi, long time no see. I haven't seen you since the 2nd war."

Anne said, her voice slightly distorted.

"It has happened hasn't it. The possessor of my father's blood, has been born."

She implies.

"Yes, he has just drank the blood from the vile."

Malachi replies.

"Uncle, for the sake of my late father's wish. Please raise him, for only his blood is worthy to become king."
