Chapter 9 - Episode 8: Council Chamber

Angel stood wary in front of Seraphina, ready for any confrontation.

"Kid, calm down. I'm not going to hurt you."

Seraphina says with a chuckle, taking out a gum from her pocket before chewing.

"Can I leave? My parents might be worried, especially when I haven't gone home yet."

Angel asks, his eyes serious and firm as he looks at her.

"Don't worry, we've just finished contacting her parents."

Julian appears beside from behind the door, holding a phone near his face.

"Wait, that's my phone! Give it back!"

Angel shouts, his pupils slowly revealing the crimson red color.

"Chill, here, take it back."

Julian throws the phone at Angel.

"I knew it, those eyes, you really are a pureblood."

Seraphina exclaimed with a hint of disdain.

"What?"

Angel asked confused.

"Anyway, follow us for now kid. A bunch of geezers wants to meet you."

Angel nodded yet still wary, following them from behind.

As they walked the hallway of the academy leading to the council chamber, where the meetings between the council members are held.

The students looked at him with confused faces while others simply ignored his presence.

Soon after, Julian broke the silence.

"Is there something you'd like to ask about this place?"

Julian asked with a smile.

"Are all students here just like what I see on the novels?"

Angel replied as he looks at the students performing magical abilities.

"Well close enough to what I was expecting."

"I guess you're correct, all of us are just like what is depicted inside the novels, myths and legends."

Julian answered while looking ahead at the path.

"Then what about this academy?"

Angel asked while looking around.

"This academy was built far long ago. It was made to accomodate those born with certain privileges that couldn't blend in with the society due to their unique traits."

"Have you asked yourself? What would it be like if you had been branded as a monster by the world due to a fate you didn't choose."

Angel looked down, pondering about Julian's statement as he remembers Airi's shouting at him, calling him a monster.

"It would be lonely..."

Angel replies.

"I thought of that too... But it was thanks to this academy that I felt accepted, a place where I don't have to fear who I am."

Julian says with a smile.

"That's enough chit-chat you two, we're here."

Angel widened his eyes as he looks at the large cylindrical building in front of him, heavily guarded by individuals in dark cloaks, wielding firearms.

"State your purpose and summoner."

The man in front of the two large doors went in front and spoke in a rough tone.

"We are here regarding the decision about this boy, under the summon of the Unitas Board."

The man's eyes expression stiffened as he immediately told the men behind him to open the doors quickly.

Angel clenched his fist tight as he readies himself for what is to come.

Inside the chamber are two floors, the second floor where the council stands as they make their decision and the ground floor where the subject awaits his/her own fate to be decided upon.

Angel stood in the middle, his body stiffening from the pressure of the council's gaze.

"So that boy is the discovered unknown pureblood?"

A man with white hair and crimson pupils stood up and spoke, his attire colored black with a blade on his waist.

"As expected of lord Vincent Thorne, always the first to break the silence."

The council members whispered among themselves.

"We will now hold the trial of the decision regarding the existence of the unknown pureblood also referred to as Angel Hughes!"

The leader of the Mage faction, the old man clothed in white, Cassian Vance stated.

"Angel Hughes, under the Unitas Council Chamber, you are to only and only speak the truth."

"Every member are to share their opinions and sentiments regarding the matter, only then will the final decision may come."

Angel felt the heavy stares of the member, he couldn't look up due to the tension currently inside the room as he hopes for somebody to help him.

"Angel Hughes, currently 17 years old, he grew up under his mother and father's roof in Japan, Saitama Prefecture before moving here in Italy, Rome."

Seraphina stated with a rebellious tone.

"Then say how did he obtain the blood of a pureblood? His existence is of an unknown variable as his parents weren't vampires to begin with."

Natalia Alistair questioned, as she loads and unloads the magazine of her magnum.

"Even if that boy obtained that power through an unknown method, the crimson pupils he possess does not lie, therefore he has the right to be recognized as a pureblood!"

Fred Corvus said, whilst holding his great sword.

"Enough with this... You council people will never get an answer as always."

A man clothed in black with a hood covering his head jumped from the second floor all the way to the ground.

"Francisco Lazarus, the man from the elder lord Minnes' bloodline. That man who simply does as he wants, that boy will surely die."

Francisco walked up to Angel as he grabs his gun from his waist, his crimson eyes carefully staring at Angel's eyes.

"Francisco Lazarus! Return to your seat at once! Your attitude will not be tolerated inside the Council Chamber!"

Cassian Vance shouted, his voice serious and firm.

"Shut up old man, the man I only listen to is him and him alone."

As Cassian stood in front of Angel, Angel froze in fear from feeling Francisco's bloodlust towards him.

"I'll find it on my own."

As Francisco delved deep inside Angel's consciousness through demonic magic, he was soon met by a demon that resembled a man he once knew.

"Haha-Hahahaha!"

The council members looked at Francisco confused as he immediately laughs unexpectedly.

"O-great lord, Moriarty."

Francisco grinned, his sharp teeth revealing as he kneels down in front of him with a smile.
