Chapter 76 - Down with Brok

The room we're teleported to is... More of a tent? The ground is dirt. The 'walls' are cloth. If anything, I would think this place is a war party waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

This room we're in, is big enough for a war counsel. We should have plenty of space to fight. The 'bed' which is the only real furniture looks to be a padded table set for the small creatures known as goblins.

I call it a bed because the goblin sleeping on it. It flinches as the lock zone goes into place. I stand in front of Al as the others gain the best positions.

A spark of electricity has me pause. It's coming from the goblin lying down. Brok is awake? Readying?

Maybe it should've been teleport in and slice his neck before anything else. Not that I could be used for that.

The goblin doesn't sit up or stand before Hydrangea moves into position. She lifts her sword slowly readying herself to just cut off Brok's head.

I'm assuming it's Brok. Maybe it's not. Although... Al said nothing. We're assuming based on Al's reaction.

Hydrangea's sword makes the whip noise to indication it is hitting speeds of danger. That was something we needed to pull off to cut the paper. Speed means a lot for a sword.

Instead of the expectation of sword removing Brok's head from its body, a shock of electricity comes out of Brok's body vibrating Hydrangea's sword and sending her flying.

I can see the edge of our marked zone by her colliding with it.

Now Brok stands as we weigh our next options. "Can't a guy have a nap in peace?"

I was expecting goblin, but he uses... This isn't good. We're facing a dangerous goblin. Brok is confident he'll be able to take down Mom. What are we going to do? How will we manage?

No. Al made it clear. Brok has a fodder spell. He can't call his goblins for his guard. At least there's that.

But no one knew about the electric shield Brok could conjure. Al didn't know Brok's spell list.

Raida moves in slamming her sword into Brok's back. She managed flank position, but the electricity still happens. She is jolted leaving her weapon in Brok's back. He can't seem to reach it.

That allows an easy reach for Butch to pull off an arrow. He hits Brok. But not a kill shot. Is that really what we need to focus on? An arrow kill shot?

Raida grunts while grabbing her sword back. Instead of holding it long, she tosses it to the side of the tent. She shakes out her hand from the charge.

I glance to Hydrangea. Her groans prove she's awake. But also suggest she isn't coming to quite yet. I exhale and begins a ritual cast. Brok can become stone.

William teleports Brok to Raida's side when he starts paying attention to me. "He's a drain on my mana." He glances to me. That is a problem. William normally has no trouble with teleportation. Is it because of the lock zone or because the goblin is difficult in general.

I finish the ritual, but nothing happens. I watch as Raida uses a wooden sword to whack at the goblin. Wood won't allow for as ease of electricity transfer. Butch is still trying for his arrows. No kill shot yet. My ritual didn't work.

I can't use a sword here. I switch out for my bow. I don't have any further weapons. The other knights have others. Not me. I have a sword that would be called useless and a bow that in this case may be more dangerous than not.

"What's the plan, Thomas?" William looks at me. "Raida won't hold up much longer."

And Butch isn't likely to pull off a kill shot. It's a possibility, but unlikely.

I lift my bow. "William... Can you teleport my arrow in its movement to hit his heart?"

William touches my arrow and looks to the goblin. "I can try. I don't know anatomy."

"Clearly you have a lot to study." I pull back the bow string focusing on the goblin. "I have more arrows. Just try." I shoot the arrow at the goblin. I can't say if William helps or not. It does hit the goblin, but no where near the heart. "Same general area as a human."

"I missed the timing." William lifts his hands. "Wait for my word."

I nod setting myself up for another shot.

"Go."

I release the arrow and watch as it disappears and reappears in the right location. It sinks deep into the goblin's chest. Brok coughs out blood. Butch sends another arrow at Brok getting Brok's attention.

"Again, Thomas. I think it's not quite killed."

I follow William's order. I can shoot the bow well enough, but hitting the heart is a difficult request. At William's word, I send another arrow at Brok.

This time, the hit has Brok fall to the ground. The breathing is noticeable, but each breathe has blood seeping out of his mouth and the place where I shot.

"You got the lung the first time." Raida says picking up her sword. "No chance of making it."

Brok reaches out, but instead of words it's gurgles of blood.

"A lung hit is serious. Missing the ribs is a tough task." Raida stares at me.

"William did it." I say. Raida nods and goes to Hydrangea's side. "Are we...?"

Al steps up to Brok. The lock zone won't have the same guard if the focus isn't there. But no one is fighting that at the moment. "He's dying."

"Yes." Raida says helping Hydrangea to stand. "Can you chop his head off, Hydrangea?"

She stands up slowly. "I have the wrong weapon for this." She checks which weapon she has on hand that would suit best. She finds an ax that should work. The wood will limit the transfer of lightning.

We all watch as Hydrangea gives Brok his final moment. It would've been a painful death if we didn't. He was going to die. Only the best healers could save someone in that state.

"Thank you. I'll bring you back." Al releases the lock spell. As teleport away, someone enters the tent. They attempt to attack, but we're gone before a hit can land. Al has us standing outside of their cave. "Thank you for that. I do not have proper offensive spells. Teleportation is a great support magic skill, but is almost useless as a fighter." Al turns to William. "You are welcome to visit if you have time to chat."

"Sure." William ducks his head.

I look in the direction of Telligence. "Should we rush back?"

Hydrangea holds her head. "That... Was not my expectation. He had an electric shield spell?"

"Do you wish to come in for some tea?" Al motions to their cave. "We can chat about possible diplomacy." They smirk at me. I look aside. I made the comment before.

Hydrangea looks at the group. "I'll stay. Raida please lead the group back to the estate. Explain everything to whoever is marked in charge. William? Please return once things are settled. I can't join a battle in this state."

"Yes, Hydrangea." It's a chorus of answers. I offer her a bow. Al walks Hydrangea into the cave without issue.

"Let's head back." William smirks at me. We did the task expected of us.
