Moses stood at the door step of Tolu's house. His expression sharp , with determination in his eyes.he rang the doorbell, tapping his foot impatiently.after a few moments Tolu opened the door. Her brows furrowed when she saw him.
"Moses what are you doing here?" She said with her hands crossed.
Without waiting for an invitation Moses stepped into the house" nice to see you too Tolu. We need to talk".
Moses stride into the living room taking a seat in the sofa as if he owned the place .Tolu shut the door behind him , her irritation growing.
" we'll make your self comfortable " Tolu said her voice laced with sarcasm " so what do you want Moses "
" I'm here about the field , who know the one which just got mysteriously destroyed ." Moses said.
Tolu paused " and why are you asking me about it?"
"Because I wasn't in school that day and now I'm hearing about the incident in the field sand giving you are the only witch ….." before Moses could finish Tolu cuts him off.
" first of all I'm not a witch , and second , did you just come to my house to outright accuse me ?"Tolu said with raising anger.
" what ever destroyed the field was obviously supernatural so I need answers " Moses said leaning back in the sofa with his hands crossed.
" well I don't know , so you can leave " Tolu said pointing at the door .
" I don't think you get it , the school is running an investigation so Tolu I'm gonna need answers "
" I don't know " Tolu replied.
" don't play dumb with me Tolu, I'm not leaving till I get answers" Moses said .
" I told you I don't know anything about the field so why don't you take your questions somewhere else". Tolu said , her voice raising in anger.
" well it has to be someone so….." before Moses could finish he was interrupted by a familiar voice .
" if she said she's she doesn't know , she doesn't . So why don't you leave her be" Emeka said as he slowly stepped out from the corridors ." And bro, i think you've over stayed your welcome " he said as he stood in between Tolu and Moses.
" I'm not leaving till I get answers " Moses said , trying seat back. But Emeka held his arm pulling him up ." I don't think you get it , I wasn't asking ". Emeka said , his eyes changing colors from brown to red. He grabbed Moses by the arm and dragged him out of the house slamming the door shot in his face .
Tolu took a long breath and sat down. " thanks for stepping in ".
Emeka kissed her on the forehead . " no worries babe ".
Moses still reeling from his ejection from Tolu's house,wandered into a small pastry shop.the scent of warm bread and sugar filled the air . He scanned the room, his eyes landed in a familiar figure tucked away in an empty booth . It was Sunmi. Her brows furrowed in concentration as she scrolled through her phone oblivious to the world around her.
He took a deep breath, his heart pounding against his chest. He approached her cautiously, trying to project a casual demeanor.
" uh, hey " he said. His voice getting her attention.she rose up her head and tucked away her phone. " hey , ummmm…..Moses right?" Sunmi said with a bemused smile.
" yeah , it's Moses " he said taking a seat . " so how are you ?, what's up" Sunmi said with a smile ." Well I felt a bit peckish so I decided to come grab a bite " Moses said .
"Well in that case , lemme buy you something "Sunmi said bringing out a black card.
" oh no , don't worry you don't need to that" Moses said , trying to reject her offer politely .
" don't worry I don't mind, or are you embarrassed of a girl buying you something?" Sunmi asked trying to tease Moses.
Before Moses could protest Sunmi flagged down a waiter and ordered a rich chocolate cake and coffee for herself.
Few minutes later the waiter brought her order and she pushed the cake the towards Moses with amusement.
As he tentatively took a bite , Sunmi's gaze lingered in him, a strange intensity in her stare.
" what ?" Moses asked feeling about self conscious.
Sunmi smile softened. " you know " she said her voice almost a whisper, " this reminds me of that time when we were ten and our dads took us to the small bakery near the beach. Remember?.you had this exact slice of cake and you got it all over you clothes".
The color drained from Moses face , all he could to was stare . " I know you're wondering, how could I have possibly remembered when you wiped my memories of you ?"
A wave of guilt washed over Moses as he spoke ," Sunmi, you have to understand we did it to protect you, we did t want you to ...."
Sunmi's gentle facade vanished , replaced with an icy fury, and unsettling calmness." Protect me? " she interrupted, her voice dangerously low."you saw what happened to the field , didn't you . That's to show I don't need your protection ." She had a knowing client in her eyes.
Moses paled."But you …are human"he stammered ,his voice trembling.
" I was. Now,get out of my way. Sunmi said, her voice icy. She got up and headed towards the parking lot.Moses scrambled after her, his desperation growing ." Sunmi, stop walking away we need to talk ."
Sunmi paused, turning to face him."talk about what? There's nothing to talk about"
Moses stepped closer, frustration bubbling." The hell there isn't, how did you get your memories back ? And how the hell did you destroy an entire field ? Sunmi you're suppose to be human"
Sunmi chuckled coldly" human? So I'm suppose to be a powerless and helpless human you can you with ?"
" no one was toying with you. We did it to protect you " Moses quickly shot back.his voice suddenly calm , as if trying to ease the tension." You weren't ready for the world out there, you were…"
Sunmi cut him off ." Don't tell me what I was ready for! You took that choice away from me. You made me seem insane , stupid and helpless.you kept me in the dark while you and Tolu played hero."she stopped , clenched her fist and took a deep breath ."I'm not helpless or human anymore."
" You need to listen to me ok? I'm gonna…" before Moses could finish his sentence sunmi cut him off.
" No! You listen to me . I want you stay away from me and my memories." Sunmi said , turning to leave.
Moses reached out a hand , desperate for her to understand.to stop her" Sunmi please…"
"Don't touch me!" Sunmi snapped, her voice cracking with barely contained rage.
A surge of energy crackled in the air ,and an invisible telekinetic force sent Moses flying backwards,his body slamming against packed car.the cars around them began to shake ,alarms blaring a chaotic symphony.the parking lot was filled with blinking lights and frantic wail of car horns.
Moses, sprawled on the ground, stared up at her in disbelief .
Sunmi slid into her waiting car , her expression cold and unable to read" Go" she commanded the driver.and the car sped away.
Moses was left stunned , his body aching , his heart heavy with fear.
Moses found him self in his dad study surrounded by his usual artifacts and text. He approached his father, his unease evident in his body language.
"Dad , we need to talk about the field."Moses began, his voice tight.
Moses father looked up , his expression calm.
" what about the field son?"he asked . His tone clam and still.
Moses hesitated, unsure how to phrase what he knew." Well …the destruction…I think it was Sunmi." He finally said . His eyes watched his fathers face for any reaction.
His father raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise .
"Sunmi? But she's as human as they get. I don't understand what you are implying."
Moses's frustration began to rise." No , dad she's not,or at least she wasn't when i last saw her.I know this sounds crazy but … I think she might be psychic. She …she used telekinesis , she pushed me away without touching me . She has powers!"Moses exclaimed , trying to make his father understand the seriousness of the matter.
His father leaned back in his chair, his expression one of thoughtful confusion."psychic? Moses are you sure. Cause this is an extraordinary claim." He asked as if Moses was hallucinating.
Moses was getting agitated by his father's dismissiveness ."I'm not lying dad. It happened. I saw it , it's real.I know you know a lot about supernaturals and all this kind of things.you're the head of C.O.M, council of magic. You must know something! Her dad is your best friend, so do you know anything about her family background ? There's got to be something we're missing."
His dad sighed , as if making a difficult decision.
"Alright Moses ,I'll admit there is something I've being keeping from you. I decided not to tell you before for your wellbeing."
He leaned forward. His tone changing from feigning ignorance to quiet confidence."it's true, Sunmi has a unique history .when she was a child , she suddenly started to manifest psychic abilities. Telekinesis, as you described.she could move objects with her mind, without touching them."
"It wasn't a family trait or some kind of dormant ability that was triggered.it was…entirely new, entirely unique to her. Her parents, were scared to couldn't understand it, they were scared of what she could become.they wanted her to have a normal life without the fear of being anything other than human." He sighed . Then continued .
" her father came to me. As his best friend, he knew of my knowledge and influence in the supernatural. He asked me to help him seal her abilities, to prevent her from being drawn to the supernatural world . He wanted her to be safe ."
His father paused, watching Moses face for any reaction. "This is why you must understand, son, we cannot let her parents know. I vowed to her father that I would protect her, and I did everything I could . They will be terrified to find out he'd powers have returned, stronger than ever. Son, I know you want to, but don't get involved ok? I just need to to keep an eye out for her. And make sure she doesn't do anything she'll regret ."
He adds. "And for the field , I will take care of everything . Trust me ok ? " he said . Trying to calm Moses .
