It's been days since the excursion and the disappearance of Emeka , and school had finally resumed normal school activities , though a lingering shadow of unease remained. The official announcement had come that morning Emeka had yet to be found . Some of the students held on to hope, while some whispers theories of something far worse.
Tolu sat at her desk, silent, her fingers tracing meaningless patterns on the table. The weight of her own guilt pressed down on her like a vice , she had accused the vampires, spun lies to deflect the truth . But she knew, she knew the truth.
A sharp nudge on her shoulder snapped her out of her thoughts. She turned to see Christopher. He leaned in close, his voice barely above a whisper .
"We need to try again."
Tolu turned back." What?"
"Another locator spell , we need to try again." Christopher replied.
Tolu gave a frustrated sigh." Ever since the excursion we've been trying one locator spell after another and the results are always the same ."
"Umm , excuse you! Do I need remind you why we are doing all these locator spells ." Christopher shot back in anger.
" I know . what I'm saying is that we've doing it your way and there have been no results so far. As from now on I'm going to do it my way, alone . I'm sorry Christopher I know you're just trying help but I made the mistake and I'll fix it ." She said as she stormed off the class.
The corridors were empty, but she felt a presence . The air grew heavy, thick with something unseen. She quickened her pace, her footsteps echoing in the silence.
Then she heard it.
A whisper
A breath of cold air against her ear.
"Tolu…"
She spun around . The hallway stretched empty behind her. A low chuckle slithered through the air .
"You can't run from me."
She turned back. And there he was.
Emeka.
Tolu stumbled back, her breath shallow." No… no , your not real ."
Emeka stepped forward." And yet, here I am."
"What the hell do you want from me. You promised to set me free once someone died. Emeka is dead because of you so now set me free." Tolu said as she clenched her fist.
"Oh, I see, I just wanted to lend a helping hand ."He said as a mischievous smile spread across his face.
Tolu looked skeptical at first , but the thought of being able to bring Emeka back to life made her give in." What do you mean?" She asked looking unsure.
"A little resurrection spell and a bit of practice and voilà, dearest Emeka will be brought back " he said as he stretched his hands towards Tolu . "So you're in?"
"Well I don't even know you so I can I trust you"
Tolu said as she took a step back.
"You can call me what ever you want my lady." He said as it took a bow. He rose his head and cackled Loudly before morphing into a murder of crows and flying off.
Tolu took a deep breath in , as she wondered if she had made the right choice .
MEANWHILE....
Christopher stood in front of a house , staring at the wooden door as memories stirred within him. It had been years, decades even since he last saw him. After much hesitation he knocked.
The door creaked open, revealing a man in his late thirties. Dressed casually, his eyes widened in shock.
"Christopher?" His voice was a mix of shock and hesitation. He took a step back scanning Christopher from head to toe.
Christopher gave a small smile." Hey David."
David blinked."You- you look exactly the same, how is that possible. It's been twenty years Christopher and you haven't aged a day."
Christopher chuckled." Good genes I guess."
David shook his head in disbelief." I don't get it , please do explain how it's possible that you haven't aged since 1987."
" Can we talk inside?" Christopher asked , ignoring David's surprised look.
After a pause , David stepped outside allowing him in.
They sat in David's living room , the air thick with unspoken questions.
"So", David started hands crossed. "Why are you here , I mean after our breakup you made it clear you didn't want to see me again and after twenty years you show up at my door step still looking like you did twenty years ago. So what is it?."
"Ok,Honestly I know this is weird,it is for me too, but I had no choice you where my last resort."Christopher said trying to calm David.
"Yeah no shit it's fucking weird, and what the hell do you mean last resort!" David shouted , feeling a mix of anger and anxiousness.
"I know we had a really rocky relationship, and things didn't exactly end well between us but it's all in the past now . I only came here because I really need you help ." Christopher said , trying to pacify David.
"So what do you need help for." David asked
"Well, Williams Michelle Chuwkuemeka went missing during a school excursion and I wanted to ask if the council of magic have heard anything about the case." Christopher asked .
"How do you know I work for the council of magic?" . David asked. Giving Christopher a suspicious look.
"Christopher gave a playful smile. "I love keep tabs on all my exes , well at least the ones who names I can remember."
"I'm sorry Christopher but what ever information I have about that is classified." David said with a stern look .
Christopher gave another playful smile ." David, you and I are way passed classified . So just give me the information I need so I can be on my merry way. And if you tell me I might just tell you the secret of my immortality." Christopher said. Then he gave a playful wink .
"From the information I gathered from the meeting that was held between the vampires and werewolves . The vampires were said to have taken Emeka hostage . And a testimony was given by a girl named Tolu . saying the vampires knocked her unconscious took Emeka and place an anti barrier spell a cloaking spell to prevent her from tracking him. Well the chronoscape proved her testimony right . I was the one who delivered the chronoscape to the meeting my self and witness everything firsthand and now Emeka's father being the alpha of the werewolves has declared war against the vampires ." He said as he stood up from his sit and towards a cabinet.
Christopher was shocked at what he had just heard. "Tolu is playing a really dangerous game here." he whispered to him self . But his attention was drawn towards David . who came back with a small pocket knife in his back pocket. He tried to hide it but Christopher had already seen it.
Christopher gave a disappointed look ." Don't tell me you're gonna cut your self to see if I would react to your blood. I'm not a vampire David , I told you my immorality comes from my genes ."
"How? How? You've still haven't explained how your immortality is hereditary." David said as he dropped the knife.
Christopher stood up from his chair and turned to leave." You needn't worry yourself about it David. And for what its worth , it was nice talking to you." He said as he left the house.
