Chapter 32 - The Snake's trail

*Stella's pov:"

As Master Adrian made his statement, he drew closer, his face inches from mine. I could feel his warm breath on my skin, sending shivers down my spine. My heart racing, I felt trapped in his intense gaze.

Just as the tension became unbearable, a knock on the door broke the silence. Master Adrian ignored it, his eyes still locked on mine, his face still inches from mine. The knocking persisted, growing more insistent. Finally, Master Adrian responded in a low, husky groan, "Enter."

The door opened, and Fredrick stepped inside, his expression grave. But as he took in the scene before him, his eyes flicking from Master Adrian's intense gaze to my flushed face, a hint of amusement danced on his lips.

"You may leave, Stella," Master Adrian said, his voice low and dismissive. I didn't need to be told twice. Without a word, I turned and sprinted out of the office, eager to escape the suffocating tension...

*Authors pov:*

Back in the office, the atmosphere was heavy with tension. Both men looked grave, their faces etched with concern. Master Adrian broke the silence, his voice firm. "How was the investigation?"

Fredrick's expression turned somber. "The Snake Gang is on the loose, and they're planning something massive. The third person, among the seven Snakes of the Snake Gang, is on the loose, and he's known as the Master of Deception." He handed Master Adrian a small flash drive. "I managed to get a blurred picture of him."

Master Adrian took the flash drive and plugged it into his secondary computer. The screen flickered to life, displaying a grainy image that looked uncannily like Shawn. But before Master Adrian could react, the computer beeped, warning of a virus. The screen went dark, and Master Adrian's eyes narrowed.

"Whoever released this information is not trustworthy," he growled. "They're trying to hack into my computer and override my company's security."

Fredrick looked stricken. "I'm sorry, sir. I was in a haste to get the information to you."

Master Adrian's expression softened slightly. "It's fine. I didn't expect it to be Shawn, but..." He paused, his eyes clouding over. "I had my suspicions, and now it seems I was right. He's been acting strange lately."

But before he could continue, Fredrick's face contorted in alarm. "Shawn!" he exclaimed, his voice trembling. "What's wrong?" Master Adrian asked, his brow furrowed.

Fredrick's eyes darted wildly. "I saw him in the parking lot. He said he was here to pick up Miss Stella." Master Adrian's expression darkened, his jaw clenched in anger...

Without wasting another moment, Master Adrian grabbed his car keys and rushed out. Luck was on his side as he spotted Shawn's car in the distance. He jumped into his sleek, limited-edition Lamborghini and sped off, expertly drifting into the distance.

In no time, he caught up with Shawn's car, blocking it with his own. Shawn and Stella stepped out, and Master Adrian followed suit, his eyes fixed intently on Stella.

"Do you think you can just leave without completing your tasks?" he asked, his voice firm and authoritative.

Stella looked taken aback, stammering, "I-I'm sorry, Master Adrian. I'll finish it tomorrow, I promise."

Master Adrian's expression remained unyielding. "I want it done today."

Shawn, his calm demeanor a thin veil for the tension beneath, spoke up. "This isn't the way to treat your employees, and she's not going anywhere with you."

Master Adrian's smirk was a cold, calculated thing. He ignored Shawn's protest, his eyes never leaving Stella's face. "Let's see how long you can keep up this charade, Shawn," he thought to himself.

With a swift motion, Master Adrian pulled Stella into his car. As they drove away, Shawn's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. He couldn't believe how quickly Master Adrian had caught on.

A low, menacing laugh escaped Shawn's lips. "I underestimated you, Adrian," he whispered to himself, "but you've also underestimated me. Watch your back."

The darkness in Shawn's eyes seemed to deepen, a sinister promise lurking beneath the surface...
