The sky was a mixture of soft gold and deep blue, the sun barely peeking over the horizon as Haelyn sat by the window, watching the vast field of sunflowers and dandelions sway in the wind. She held Ezra close, his tiny fingers curled around the fabric of her robe as she hummed softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Teaching lessons we must learn, that brings us closer to each other..." she sang, her fingers brushing against Ezra's delicate cheek. His breathing was steady, peaceful, and it soothed something deep within her.
"He's peaceful."
Haelyn didn't startle. She had felt the presence before she even heard the voice. Nyx stood by the window, arms crossed, her dark eyes watching the baby with an expression Haelyn couldn't quite decipher.
She barely turned. A small smile tugged at her lips as she whispered, "For now."
Nyx stepped further into the room, walking toward the second window, settling on the sill. She exhaled deeply, fingers tracing the cold glass absentmindedly.
