[14th Everdusk 2103]
A few minutes remained before Lucas's awakening would begin.
{Lucas's POV}
Hey there—my name's Lucas. And today marks four years since I was dragged into this world.
It looks a lot like my original world, but it's far more dangerous. Monsters now roam the land, and humanity was nearly wiped out after a strange energy—mana—invaded our reality. Dungeons and rifts began tearing through space, and out poured chaos.
Half of humanity? Gone.
But then came the hunters—people who awakened unique classes that allowed them to fight back. Thanks to them, the total collapse of civilization was narrowly avoided. It's been over eighty years since then, and now... it's finally my turn.
Today, I awaken.
When I first transmigrated, like any good main character, I tried everything to summon some kind of cheat—a system, a golden finger, anything. But nothing ever showed up. Four years of waiting, and I got nothing.
Still, I never gave up hope. Maybe I didn't get a system, but what if my class is some overpowered hidden one?
Now here I am, standing in line, waiting for my name to be called.
After Lyre's awakening, my expectations only grew. I had a feeling—my fate would be different.
And then, right on cue, Miss Tess called out my name. (Not that sweetheart kind of Tess, by the way... though that's a different story.)
I walked up to the stage and placed my hands on the awakening crystal.
Light burst through my eyes. Something stirred inside me. Something... shattered. I expected a visual change, some epic glow-up.
Nothing.
My heart sank. But just as despair crept in—something incredible happened.
[Draconic God Mage System] is now active.
A compatible host with a latent dragon bloodline has been identified.
Synchronization commencing…1%... 3%... 6%... 32%... 64%... 78%... 99%...100%
Synchronization complete.Current class Mage
Assigning: Battle Mage
The system will assist the host in ascending as the Supreme Dragon God.
A talent voucher has been dispatched to inventory.
Internal transfer of knowledge in progress.
Note: It is advised that the host finds a place to sit. Dizziness may occur during bonding.
In that instant, something within me changed—something draconic awakened.
Even though I was still shown as an E-Rank Mage, I knew things were different now. This wasn't some trash class. It was a growth-type. There was more to this than what met the eye.
But I quickly silenced the system's broadcast. Letting the world know I had a system this early would be a terrible idea.
The moment the crystal displayed my rank, the audience laughed. Typical.
But a few didn't—Tess, Helen, Lyre, and some unfamiliar boy. Their expressions weren't mockery. Sympathy? Pity? Maybe... respect?
Either way, I knew better than to trust anyone yet. Even Old Darian approached me right away with a recruitment offer, but I turned him down. I needed time—time to grow without eyes watching my every step.
As I walked off stage, Tess gave me that look again for calling her by name in public. Annoying. She knew what we had.
Two years ago, I saved her from some scumbags. Used a little trick to knock them out cold and carried her to safety. Ever since then... our bond grew deeper. She and I have been in a secret relationship since.
Eventually, I'll make her happy. Alongside others, perhaps. Influential men don't have just one lover, do they? It's just the way of the world.
Now, I sat at the back of the line, under a tree, watching others take their turn. Even Lyre, for all his power, was behind me now. I had something far greater.
The last few classes were finishing up, and I figured it was time to check my rewards.
"System," I muttered, "open my talent voucher."
A wheel appeared, spinning rapidly across tiles of mystery and glowing colors. It stopped.
Purple.
Congratulations, host!
Talent Gained: Draconic Insight (SSS Rank)
I froze.
An SSS-rank talent. Four years of waiting—was this the payoff?
