Chapter 10 - Life as a dragon hunter

1 week later

The sun shines through the window on the side of the cabin in the dragon hunter ship. My eyes flutter for a moment before I awaken to a face full of black hair. I smile softly as I breath in Heather's lovely divine scent. I sigh as I take in this scent and my arms tighten around her waist and bring her back closer to my chest. Heather begins to shuffle and groan as she leans back into into me.

"Morning Lila. Did you sleep well?" I lean closer into her back and sigh as I hear her voice which acts like music to my ears in the early morning.

"Yes I did. I always sleep well when I sleep with my beautiful mate." A shiver runs down her spine as I whisper this into her ear. I look at her ear and see it turn bright red making me smile. I give her neck a good kiss. Her smile is so wide that I can see part of it on the side of her face. "We should probably get up soon." She nods but doesn't move just pulls my arms closer to his belly.

Sighing I slide my hands away from her and stand from my bed while looking down at Heather. Heather spins around and looks up at me pouting. I smirk down before leaning down and patting her head before turning and looking at Windshear. Her metal claws are crossed as she leans her head on them and looking at us. Shaking my head I walk toward the door and give one last glance toward Heather as she stands and stretches before moving to Windshear. I smile softly before walking out of the cabin.

Looking from side to side down the hallways of the sleeping area of the Dragon Hunter ship. Stretching one last time I walkdown the hallway toward the access ladder to the upper deck. I wave and gesture toward other hunters I pace as I walk through the hallway. Walking up the ladder I raise my hand to block the sun protecting my eyes. I take a deep breath of the open sea air breathing it in and enjoying it very much. As my eyes move over the ship I notice that we are docked on an island and some hunters are set up on the beach. Walking over toward the the side of the boat I sigh as I see Ryker caging a new deadly nadder. I sigh and try to control my emotions as me and Heather are almost there with the mission. As I take deep breaths as I listen to the open running water and the beating heart? My eyes move further along the shore where I see a blond haired Viking gripping onto a floating log in the ocean.

"Morning Lila." I turn to see the deranged man running over and waving enthusiastically. I sigh and shake my head but smile all the same as I see him honestly happy that he is who he is. I spin around and leaning on the side of the ship I give him a respectful nod with a smile.

"Morning Dagur." My smile is soft as I look at him and he leans on the side of the boat and looks out over the island seeing the caged dragons.

"What a lovely day to hunt dragons don't you agree?" I hesitantly nod before turning and looking in the direction of the island and sighing. Hearing clinking coming from behind me I turn slightly and see Heather walking out with Windshear right behind her. My smile widens as I see her walking towards us and the previous annoyance from the capturing the nadder is gone. She walks over and give me a hug and a quick kiss before looking over the island and freezing for a moment when she sees the deadly nadder. She turns toward me and I nod indicating that it is Astrid meaning that the dragon riders will be here soon.

"Good morning sister and what a lovely morning it is." She smiles and nods enjoying the hyper active brother of hers. I smile at his and give the razorwhip next to me as she snuggles in.

"Yes it is brother yes it is." She smiles and shakes her heads before looking back over the shore where the hunters begin to attempt pushing the cages up the ramps. I look at them for a moment before sighing and use my strength to jump over to them shocking them for a moment before they realise it is me and they calm down having gotten accustomed to my increased strength over the past week.

"Want me to help?" They nod before moving and taking deep breaths before letting me push the cages up onto the ship. I walk down and move the next to before Ryker walks up as I reach the last cage. I stare at him for a moment and lean on the side of the last cage and look at him in the eye.

"Thanks for the help. It always takes forever to get the cages on ships." I smile and nod before looking at him as I wait for him to talk. "I want to know why you came to become a dragon hunter because you seem not suited." I raise an eyebrow and rise off the cage sighing before talking.

"The literal only reason I am here is because of Heather." He raise an eyebrow before I move behind the cage and begin pushing it up the ramp with him following.

"Really is that really the only reason?" I sigh and nod continuing to push. "You must really love her." I stop and look at him with a raised eyebrow and looking at him curiously.

"You knew?" He nods quickly with no judgement on his face. "Well yes and you are fine with it?"

"Yep I have seen more cultures than I could count and so many different relationship types." I nod and push the last cage as the rest of the crew has already removed the rest off the shore and are raising the anchors and turning the ships away from the shore. I groan as I stretch my back and look over the shore. Walking back to Heather I lean into her as I watch the ship move on and get ready for the coming battle against the dragon riders that I already know is coming.

"Are you sure you are ready for this Heather." She looks down at me shocked that I am leaning in before sighing and accepting that the hunters are more accepting and taking a moment to think about my question for a moment.

"No I am not." I look up into her eyes as she looks off into the distant passing ocean. "But if we are to complete the mission then I have to be. But as long as you are here I will be able to." I smile and kiss her before leaning my head on her shoulder and look over the ocean with her as we ready for what the coming day has in store for us. I look over at Ryker and Dagur smiling as I see them smiling and nodding before moving and continuing their tasks. I sigh and lean in enjoying the view with her as Windshear wraps her neck around us. Smiling I scratch behind her ears and just sit there and ignore the rest of the world at just enjoy the moment with them before we have to get back to work.
