Chapter 50 - A Fleeting Visit

Mathew awoke to the sound of a door closing, the latch sliding into it's place as the lock came in to secure the door. His senses came back quicky this time, though everything was still lingering greatly in his system. He could hardly think, all he could smell was the lingering smell of Tesla's sweat. It wasn't there, but the memory remained vivid from his time in containment. The sound of shoes slipping off, jingling of what could be keys or some other sort of trinkets... Gently he looked to see who the person was - Someone he already met perhaps?

His eyes made contact with the light blue claws of Yumi's paws as she fiddled with her phone, her eyes looking toward nothing but the screen as she stepped forward. The underside of her paw's pad came to rest on Mat's back, forcing him against the ground as she hung her jacket up. She didn't apply any weight to the little creature, he was simply pinned... His tiny heart pounded in his chest as adrenaline surged through his system... Did she know he was there? The pressure increased and decreased lightly, teasing his tiny bones and body... It threatened to flatten him, forcing tiny breaths to cycle the musky scent of her day through his tiny lungs. It was different than Tesla's scent, but only slightly.

After a moment of fiddling with her phone, she shifted her weight. Mat let out a light squeak of air before his body collapsed beneath her. His skull flattened forward, smashing his blue hair into a red and gray mess on the floor as his ribcage cracked and popped. It only took her a second to realize something was underfoot before she lifted her paw up to examine it.

"Bugs..." She groaned, scoffing at Mat's little corpse stuck to her paw.

Instead of cleaning him off, however, she simply stepped back down and continued further into the house. She wasn't concerned with him, he was far from the first micro she had crushed or eaten - in fact, he narrowly escaped the fate of all others that came before him. If she had been the first one that he was killed by, she also would be the last... Her paws were an afterlife of their own, absorbing the souls of those whose lives were taken normally.

Even with a crushed skull, Mat's spirit lingered. He felt each step for nearly an hour after she had crushed him, his body pulping and mashing down into a fine little paste on her paw's pad. His only saving grace was that his soul was different - unattainable. He was a trans-dimensional being, a creature of different status than most insects killed. Instead of disappearing into her afterlife, his tiny soul was taken elsewhere...
