Chapter Two
She stared in shock at the person in front of her, almost unable to believe her eyes.
Ryan Gregory?
How could it be him?
Was it an illusion?
Or…
Sofia Hamilton froze in place for a moment, and then an inexplicable pang of sourness overwhelmed her, making her eyes red-rimmed.
Until he asked nervously, "Are you hurt?"
That familiar voice easily stirred something deep inside Sofia's heart.
At that moment, she realized just how much she had wanted to see him.
In her moments of helplessness…
In her exhaustion…
When everyone had turned against her.
The person she most wanted to see was him.
But time and again, she had lied to herself, warning herself not to think about him.
Yet in this moment, the flush in her eyes and the sour ache in her chest betrayed all her pretense.
Sofia shook her head blankly, "I… I'm fine."
But he wasn't!
His arm had been slashed by the knife earlier, and the fresh blood had already soaked through his white sleeve.
