Chapter 74 - CHAPTER 73: PROMISE

CHAPTER 73: PROMISE

"Then maybe you should start by talking to Diana," Victor suggested gently. "Tell her everything, even this questions you can't answer yourself. I'm sure she will understand better than anyone."

"And bro, i agree with Victor. I'm sure Diana will definitely understand," Jared added.

"It's ironic how you guys know my wife better than I do after just two months," James remarked bitterly.

"Well, that's probably because you're married to her. Men tend to be that way with their wives, James. We miss what's right in front of us until it's almost gone." Jerry answered.

"Or he's just not observant." Henry interjected, bitterness still clinging to his voice.

"Henry," Jerry called softly.

Henry looked at him, rolled his eyes, and remained silent.

"Or maybe you care about her more than you want to admit. Because you don't want to admit it, you're blind to her other qualities. You don't want to look deep and observe, so you end up making wrong assumptions and insinuations," Harry finished, using a wipe to clean his hands as James stood up.

"Well, then, I guess I have somewhere to be," James said.

Henry smiled and stood up. "Don't worry, bro, I'll drive you."

The tension eased, replaced by a smattering of nervous laughter as the guys cheered.

James turned to them, his gaze hardening. "You guys should be happy I let you beat me like this," he said, pointing to the injuries on his face. "I won't forget it, and no one knows how to hold a grudge like I do."

"And you just had to ruin the moment, as always," Henry commented as he rolled his eyes, a familiar gesture between them.

He grabbed James's arm and steered him out, a silent understanding passing between them.

Of all his friends, Henry was the one James was closest to, despite their constant bickering.

Henry dropped James off at the hospital before heading home.

At the hospital, James found Diana asleep. He approached softly, pulling a chair close and settling in to watch her. Even in slumber, she was breathtaking. He gently stroked her face, placing a tender kiss on her forehead before resting his own head beside hers. A single tear rolled down his cheek, a silent promise to bridge the gap between them.
