Chapter 7 - Results

As Maximus made his way to test his talent, he could not help but notice his heartbeat quickening, in fact, he was so overwhelmed that he was finding it hard not to trip and fall.

At the age of six, Max was half a head taller than most children his age and his build looked athletic, while his posture was as straight as a billiards cue. That is something that he will never change since this posture has long been engrained into the very depths of his soul. His hair color was ashen in color, which probably came from his father. Max's eyes looked simple at first, but if one were to look too deep into them, they would find themselves imagining seeing a starry sky itself. On his handsome young face, he carried a light smile which hid his worries, making him look older and more confident than other kids that went before him.

With that, Maximus reached the examiner and the orb. Instead of placing his hand on the orb right away like other kids have, he looked at it intently, appearing to try to see through its mysteries.

"Don't waste my time kid. This is the testing orb that is quite rare, but at your level you are unable to notice anything in it. Even I am still not strong enough to see through it. So put away the foolish dreams of yours and put your hand on it unless you want me to fail you." Explained Faust while irritated.

"Ugh, it is sad to be weak. I was just looking at it because its shape has reminded me of billiard balls. Oh my, how much I miss the feeling of standing by the table, analyzing the positioning of everything, and holding a cue in my hand. This memory is like a drug, once I remember it takes a while to calm down."

After a few quick thoughts in his head, Max placed a hand on the orb and closed his eyes, his heart beating faster than ever. With his eyes closed, he attempted feeling the orb and its powers inside, but noticed nothing. So instead of focusing on the orb, Max focused within himself and attempted to feel magic there.

A few seconds later, Max started feeling a burning sensation inside his chest, as if somebody placed a tea pot with boiling water on it. Focusing more, Max noticed how lights from all over his body were coming towards his chest. As he observed carefully, this process went on for ten seconds, as the heat in his chest been getting hotter with lights merging into it.

As the heat got so unbearable and Max was about to let out a scream, he noticed how all the pain disappeared and he felt refreshed all over the body. Trying to open his eyes, Max was blinded by brightness. This brightness was not from the sun, nor from anything else that Max could think of. As he fought the brightness and managed to open his eyes enough to get a glimpse of the situation, Max was shocked. "Where is this place? Why am I floating?

Wiggling in attempt to move and understand where he is, he felt his consciousness being pulled back by something.

Coming back from a strange white space, Max checked out his body and noticed that the heat disappeared and instead he was left with a very comfortable feeling.

"Okay, let's see what is happening outside. I am excited to find out my results."

Opening his eyes, Max first noticed Faust staring at him as if he was looking at a freak with a mouth agape, shaking all over. Confused, Max took a look around, and noticed that it is not only Faust, but the entire village was like that. Kids were ok because they did not understand what was happening, but all adults were looking at him as if he was a beast.

Worried Maximus took a look at the orb which was shining as bright as a star and noticed that it was a mix of two bright, vivid colors: half golden, half blue, slightly leaning more towards golden color. Max was shocked to learn that he has a talent to become both a mage and a knight, which will ensure that he can fight in close quarters and long distance, instantly eliminating one of the worries he had about safety.

Yet he did not yet know what level his talent is, so he looked excitedly at Faust awaiting a response from him.

It looks Faust a full minute to awaken and calm down, but once his eyes fell on Max, he could not help but get excited once again, excitement and greed clearly seen in his eyes. "Boy, quickly tell me what your name is?"

"My name is Maximus Volkel, Sire. I am a son of Aeliana Volkel and Leofrik Volkel, Sire." Answered Max respectfully, wondering how he did to get respected mage to be so excited.

"Max. No, Maximus! You are a once in a decade talent! HaHaHa! Who would think. Who would think that there is someone like you in this dilapidated village. Listen here my boy: with enough time, correct resources, and practice, you have a chance to reach the Master Mage Level and become a Master Knight. Do you know what it means? Royal families from all the nearby Kingdoms would be lining up to befriend you once you have grown enough. Heck, they would happily throw their daughters at you to tie you down to their kingdom. HaHaHa. I, Steven Faust, have unearthed a Dual Master talent. I have been blessed!"

While everyone was focused on Max, no one noticed how a small translucent light quickly appeared and disappeared in the orb.
