Chapter 2 - chapter 2: Identity

Chapter 2: Identity

The rain had slowed to a drizzle, but the chill in the air sank deeper into her bones. She moved through the streets of Musutafu with no destination in mind, heart hammering and thoughts running wild. Every footstep echoed with unfamiliar weight—this body moved too gracefully, too fluidly. She wasn't used to this.

She passed a convenience store window. The bright lights inside made her flinch. Her reflection followed her again—Momo's face. Her face.

The world wasn't a dream. Not anymore.

She ducked into a nearby internet café, the doorbell jingling as she entered. A bored-looking clerk barely spared her a glance before gesturing to the rows of booths. She picked the darkest corner, paid with some crumpled, slightly wet yen she found in her blazer pocket, and sank into the seat.

Hands trembling, she pulled the keyboard toward her. The keys felt familiar—but wrong. The body remembered how to type even as her brain fumbled for a plan. She opened a browser and searched one thing first:

"Momo Yaoyorozu."

Dozens of results popped up. Articles. Images. Quirk breakdowns. Even fan pages.

She read in silence, absorbing everything like a sponge. Name. Age. Birthday. Height. Blood type. Quirk: Creation. Hero course applicant. Daughter of the Yaoyorozu family—wealthy, private, powerful. A promising prodigy.

It was slightly overwhelming. But she knew what she had to do.

If she was in Momo's body, and this was the start of the anime… then the real Momo was gone.

Dead? Erased? Replaced?

She didn't know. And she wasn't sure she wanted to know.

"If I want to survive here, I have to become her."

She leaned back in the chair, eyes shut. That single thought settled in her chest like heavy iron. She couldn't afford to break down. Not yet. UA's entrance exam was in three days. If she missed it, she'd probably be exposed immediately and may face questioning from Momo's suspicious parents. She had to act fast, smart, and subtle.

She took a deep breath and made a list on the screen after making sure nobody was looking:

1. Study Momo's public behavior—speech, posture, habits.

2. Learn her quirk—test it if possible.

3. Locate her home—pretend she hit her head and can't remember much.

4. Get into UA.

Simple. Terrifying. Necessary.

She left the café after memorizing everything she could. The city felt larger now—more real, more dangerous. Heroes flex in advertisements, their capes almost slicing through the screen. Strange looking civilians moved casually, unaware that a soul from another world had hijacked the identity of one of their own.

As the clouds finally parted, she stared up at the dim moon above.

In another life, she'd watched this world through a screen.

Now, she was living it.

And she didn't know how to escape.
