Chapter 9 - My beast husband

Chapter 9

"You really amaze me, my dear—always starting what you can't finish," Kai growled softly into my ear, his voice low and dangerous. It was clear he sensed my reluctance to continue the conversation.

I shivered. I liked that tone—deep, seductive, and filled with restrained power. It sent waves of warmth fluttering through my chest and stomach.

"You're such a flirt," I mumbled, my face heating. He smirked and slowly released me.

"I can't tease you anymore. I'm at my limit," he murmured as he turned to walk out of the water. "A little more, and I might hurt you."

"Where are you going?" I asked impulsively, then immediately regretted how desperate I sounded.

Kai paused, looking at me over his shoulder, eyes searching mine—trying to decide if I was innocent or intentionally provoking him. Then he gave a dry chuckle.

"The water's too warm. I need to cool off," he replied, but his eyes—dark with desire—never left mine.

I could only sink deeper into the water until just my eyes remained above the surface, trying to hide how flustered I was.

He walked away without shame, his tall frame glistening under the moonlight, each movement confident and unhurried. I couldn't tear my eyes away. He looked like a god—majestic and untouchable. Then my gaze drifted downward.

I froze.

There it was.

His member—large, thick, proud. I gasped softly.

It was my first time seeing a man's body like this… that part of him. I couldn't look away.

Was something that big really meant to fit inside me?

I touched my own body under the water—tight, painfully so. Even my own fingers barely fit. I suddenly remembered stories from my past life—how it could be painful depending on his size.

Looking at what Kai carried between his thighs made me shiver, despite the warm water. The sheer thought of it terrified and thrilled me.

Eventually, he disappeared from view, and I didn't see him again. Not that night, not even as I lay on the bed, alone, drifting into uneasy sleep.

---

When I woke up the next morning and realized Kai wasn't beside me, an ache swelled in my chest.

Did I push him away? Did he think I was boring? Did he regret being with me?

Panic stirred in my chest. I jumped from the bed and rushed outside, barefoot across the damp morning earth, heading toward the construction site.

The first thing I saw made me pause—an almost fully completed wooden home stood tall before me, exactly the way I had imagined it.

He followed all my instructions… every little detail I mentioned.

How was that possible in just one night?

Awe filled me. The kind of work that would take days—maybe weeks—was done by dawn. How strong were these beastmen? How devoted?

I saw Kai among them, giving quiet commands, his expression proud. The sun cast a golden light across his flawless skin, illuminating him like a celestial being. He looked… otherworldly.

Beautiful.

But then I remembered his words from last night, and my chest twisted. A divine face—hiding a devilish desire.

Still, I couldn't stay upset. Not everyone is like those selfish humans from my world, I reminded myself, silently scolding myself for doubting him.

The beastmen finished their tasks and walked past me, each casting a warm smile in my direction. I returned their smiles with a gentle nod, trying to maintain the poise of a graceful woman.

When the last one left, Kai approached.

"Did you miss me?" he asked, a teasing glint in his eyes.

I scoffed and looked away. He chuckled and gestured toward the house. "This is what you wanted, right?"

I nodded, stepping into the doorway. The house was surprisingly clean and well-kept. It looked like they had done a full cleaning before I arrived.

We had our own room—Kai insisted we share one. The door creaked slightly as I opened it, its hinges handmade from stone and wood. But even that was charming in its own way.

Certainly better than a cave.

"The beastmen like the house, but they said humans need one more," Kai said, walking beside me. I appreciated that sentiment.

There was a guest room, a children's room, and the kitchen—which instantly became my favorite place. The sitting room was spacious, with high ceilings to accommodate taller guests or beastmen. The dining room was beautifully structured. Best of all, the back of the house led directly to the waterfall.

It was everything I could've dreamed.

Once we'd finished looking around, I sat down on the wooden floor, stretching my legs and patting my lap.

"Rest your head," I murmured. "You worked all night without sleep. I feel guilty."

He hesitated. I pouted.

And just like magic, he gave in.

Kai lay down, resting his head on my lap. His golden-blonde hair fanned out, soft against my thighs. His face came into full view, and I had to swallow hard.

He wasn't just handsome—he was beautiful. Ethereal.

It made me self-conscious about my own looks.

Yet, unbeknownst to me, Kai saw me as something rare. My small frame made him want to hold me protectively. My sparkling green eyes captivated him. I was unlike anyone he had ever met.

He had never been romantic. He had never attached himself to a female.

But with me… he was possessive. Obsessed.

Something deep within told him: Stay with her. Protect her. For life.

As he lay across my lap, I couldn't help but run my fingers through his hair, letting them glide over his scalp. He opened his eyes briefly, looking at me—so many things in that gaze. Things he wanted to say, but didn't. Not yet.

He tried to resist sleep, but it was no use.

I watched him finally give in. His breath evened out. His body relaxed.

He let his guard down around me.

That meant everything.

That's all I ever wanted—this kind of life. Simple. Peaceful.

Just me and my partner, trusting each other completely.
