Cold air hit her face as she stumbled into the open. She had no idea where she was. It was an unfamiliar part of the city, dark and eerily quiet. The only source of light was the distant glow of streetlights.
She didn't have time to think. Footsteps thundered behind her. The men were chasing her, shouting, their voices sharp with anger.
Her breath came in ragged gasps as she ran. Left. Right. Another turn. Nothing looked familiar. The streets blurred together in her panic.
Then—she saw it.
A college campus up ahead, its entrance gates slightly open.
Without hesitation, she sprinted inside.
The campus was nearly empty, bathed in moonlight. The buildings stood silent, their windows dark. She kept running, her feet slamming against the pavement, until she found herself in a long corridor.
Her heart pounded. Where do I hide? What do I do?
The footsteps behind her grew louder. They were getting closer.
Panicked, she pressed herself against the shadows, praying they wouldn't see her.
