Kendall's POV
"Sir, we have a major problem." Announced my secretary, Maya.
My brows creased as she spoke of a new change of plan for our opening date of our new hotel branch.
"It's supposed to happen this Friday." Maya explained. "But the hotel has been booked by one Reynolds Group.
Deep down, I was tired. It was becoming tiring but my pride was too strong to admit things to Elena. Truthfully, that hadn't been a strange man. I'd seen his picture later as one of the close drivers to the Hansel family. I had been a fool and watch Elena leave just like that!
But all that was about to change now.
"...we should do is why I'm here sir..." She was still saying but I didn't hear the rest.
"Hey it's fine Maya. We can postpone the event." I cut her off.
"Sir?"
"You heard me." My expression was stern as it it can be. "Just leave me for the next thirty minutes. Alone." Gladly, she nodded and left.
I heaved in a deep sigh. This was worse than facing my father. Even worse than when I had to meet the president of a rich and influential conglomerate group. I didn't panick like I was doing now.
"Okay, just pick up once now, will you?" I muttered, then patted myself on the thigh like I did whenever I tried to boost my confidence. It worked all the time to my surprise.
First ring.
It's been ringing now for a while, until...
That sweet soft sonorous voice!
"Hello?"
I didn't like the tone. But I decided to try again and not think too much about it. "Elena, it's me. Kendall. Have you deleted my number already?"
"No." She replied a little too quickly. "I know it's you, Kendall. What do you want?"
"Wh-what do I want...from my own wife??" I was confused and utterly irritated by that tone!
She scoffed. "The lawyer said it could take a few weeks before the divorce can be finalized. So I can still permit you for being so delusional, calling me your wife."
Anger was already making me boil now. "Okay just stop this right now. Are you demanding an apology from me? When you're the one who left me!"
"What makes you think I want any apology from you?"
This was totally baffling!
"You know what? You have anything to say, speak to my lawyer." And with that, she hung up.
She fucking hung up!!!
I felt my breath quickening, anger making my blood to boil. I hit her number again to call but she wouldn't respond!
"What is the meaning of this!" I barked out. Look at Elena making me rage like a monster now. Treating me like I was a monster! What did I even do wrong?
I couldn't let her just get away with this! Frustration hit my bones like needles piercing through foam. It was annoyingly painful!
"Felix!" I yelled out. He was always nearby so he rushed in.
"Yes sir."
"I didn't want to do this before but, get two men. And march down over to Elena's grandpa company. She is a thief. Make her fetch a diamond earring I got for--"
I paused,"You know what? We're going together. Come on, go ready the car. We're heading over to her place right now."
She didn't steal the necklace exactly. But I will punish her for disrespecting me like this. And make her remember just how powerful I can be.
We arrived there shortly, and even though Felix kept offering me side glances I didn't appreciate, I didn't really care. Her grandpa's company was a small retail firm that sold commercial goods, with two branches in town. I was part of those that sponsored the opening of both branches.
We were greeted by the receptionist at the entrance. She seemed to still recognized me and treated me nicely. Maybe the news hadn't reached everyone yet about out divorce. And that was a good thing...
"Call down Elena for me. I want to see her." I ordered.
"Yes sir, right away." She did as I'd said and dialed out a number on the telephone desk. It rang for a while before she picked up.
Before she could open her mouth, a voice responded from the other end. Accidentally, the phone had been placed on speaker.
"Don't let him in. If you do, you're fired Mary."
I couldn't miss that voice. The receptionist looked terrified that she instantly shook with fear, "y-yes sir...I mean, ma."
"Hey Elena!" I was forced to yell out. "So you've seen me coming in the CCTV huh? Come down here right now! You thief!"
I made sure my voice was loud and audible. Damn it, I'd lost all shame! "Come down here right now!" I raged out. It was even more annoying the way she was fucking treating me!
"Sir please, I think that you should calm down..." The receptionist was saying to me but the murderous glare in my eyes shut her up instantly.
"Come down here right now, Elena!" I kept calling her name. "You're a thief!"
After a short while later, I saw her walking towards me. No, it was the clicking of her heels against the floor that brought her attention to me. No.
I just glared like a fool, observing the woman before me. Was this really my ex wife? Firstly, she had on a knew length dress with these pencil mouth heels, next she had on makeup! And lastly, she was linking her arms next to a tall handsome man I didn't know!
As if to make things worse, another man appeared from the entrance, tall and confident. I instantly recognized this one. A top billionaire in the city with his retail shops established in over five hundred branches scattered across countries.
Joshua Reynolds, owner of Reynolds group. What was he doing here?
"Elena dear. I've made reservations already. We don't want to be late." That Joshua was speaking to my wife like they were buddies!
"What? Reservations? What reservations?" I forgot my purpose of visiting and instantly wanted to just hold my Elena by the hand and drag her away from these men.
"Hello, is this friend of yours joining us too?" Joshua asked, eying me from head to toe.
"What, no no. He's my ex husband. The one I told you about." Elena said, boldly.
Wait, how is she this bold to call me ex husband! "Our divorce isn't even finalized! What is wrong with you Elena!"
"You're making noise. This is a cooperate place. Manage your behavior." The strange man said to me. Before I could open my mouth to throw in words he would obviously regret! Joshua stepped forward.
"Yes. He's right. Watch your tone with Elena."
