Chapter 4 - Running Away

SOPHIA

"Here, eat this Sophia. You must be starving." The one who introduced himself to me as Liam brought me a tray of food and water but i casted my eyes away even though it smelt so good. He untied my hands and pushed the tray closer to me.

My insides were literally begging to let go of the last shred of pride I had left and have a taste but i wouldn't. For all i know, it could be poisoned or worse. I don't trust any of them not after they had kidnapped me and forcefully brought me here against my will.

"I'm not hungry. Take it away from me." Liar. I was practically starving but i most definitely can't tell him that. I can't cave. I refuse to.

Right now, we were the only ones in the cabin. His brothers had stepped outside for a bit while he came in to talk to me and offer me food.

They had given up trying to figure out how i ended up in their bathing house. I had told them the truth but they still don't believe me. I don't blame them though cause I wouldn't believe me either if I were in their shoes.

Jayden had even tried to forcefully get it out from me by trying to hit me and torture me but the others had stopped him before he could get the chance to carry out his twisted plans. I don't know why he hates me so much. I haven't even done anything to him since i found myself here.

"It's good, i promise." Liam tried to persuade me by taking a spoonful into his mouth so that i would trust him but I swallowed down my appetite, pretending to not care if it was good or not.

"Why won't you just let me go?" I am forced to ask after his antics didn't work to persuade me. "I've apologized for what I did. I didn't mean to go into that place or to cause any harm. I don't even know how i found myself there to begin with. Why won't you just believe me that I'm innocent and let me go?"

He sighed deeply. "It's not that easy, Sophia. You're our mate and we can't just let you go. You belong to us and by tradition, you're supposed to be with us, forever."

"Unbelievable." I mumbled to myself, my eyes rolling to the back of my head and resting there. I don't care what he or anyone has to say, i just need to find my way out of this place for good.

They keep calling me their mate and claiming that i belong to them and I don't even know what that rubbish statement means. How on earth can i belong to three men at the same time? Is that even scientifically possible?

"Listen, if you just tell us who you are and which pack you came from then maybe we can figure something out." He started. "Who's your father? Is he an Alpha? A Beta or an Elder?"

"What?"

"Does he live in this pack? Is he a native of this pack? Does he have a high status? A chief in command maybe? A sentinel or is he from another neighbouring pack? That's all we want to know."

God! I'm never getting out of here am i? I'm as good as dead as i know it. I stared at him hard, hoping that he was joking with me or pranking me but he wasn't. This wasn't a dream or my imagination as i had hoped. This is truly happening for real. He was being serious with his questions.

"I don't belong here and my father is neither one of those things you've just mentioned."

"Then who is he? And where are you from so that we can help you." He persisted, urging me to say something.

"I already told you how i got here. I fell into a river to kill myself and i found myself here. I know that it sounds crazy but that's the truth and I don't know any of these things you're talking about." I said to him. I was clearly irritated and he could see it too.

"How about you just let me go and we can pretend that today never happened." I suggested. "We'll go our separate ways and we can all just move on from this. I will never set foot into this place ever again. There's absolutely no use keeping me here."

"You committed treason Sophia." He told me. "You were in our bathing house. Nobody goes there unless invited but you were there without our permission. You're supposed to be beaten, thrown into prison or worse, killed."

I gasped at the revelation. "I'm not even from around here so how on earth was i supposed to know that such laws exist in your land? I literally just found myself here today. Please just let me go." I pleaded desperately.

"Are you done with her?" The door creaked open and just as Liam whipped his head towards the direction of the sound, in a split second, i grabbed the fork from the tray and hid it. They both walked in after the door gave way.

"Did she tell you anything useful?" Jayden asked, staring at me with hooded eyes of contempt. "Or was she still proving stubborn?"

"She looks like she's been through a lot today Jayden so let's give her a break. We can always find out about her later." Liam suggested but Jayden looked like he didn't want to hear any of that.

"Fine by me." Noah threw his hands up in surrender. "It's getting late and I'm famished. We better head back home before they send troops after us."

I stared at them and i felt that familiar pull making its way down my stomach. Their presence stirred something inside me. Something i couldn't explain. It was almost like i wanted them in a sexual kind of way which was weird because i barely knew them. They were strangers for crying out loud.

"So we're just going to leave her here? Alone?" Jayden asked. "What if she's a spy sent to kill us?"

"We'll never know until she tells us so yes, we'll leave her here. No one can find her here. It's secluded and hidden far away from the main area." Liam tells them and proceeds to tie my hands up. He did the same to my legs as well as well as my eyes and mouth.

"We'll be back for you tomorrow with a new change of clothes and something for you to eat okay? Don't get scared, nothing will happen to you here." He whispered to me when he was done.

"I'm telling you that we're making a very big mistake."

"Let it go Jayden. Give it a rest already." One of them cautioned him and soon enough, i heard their receding footsteps followed by the bolting of a door. A while later, the whole place was as quiet as a graveyard and i knew then that they were finally gone.

The first thing that came to mind was to pick up and move but i waited for a while to be sure that they weren't coming back. I knew that i have to leave as soon as possible. It wasn't safe here and knowing Jayden with his deep rooted hatred for me, he might come back at anytime to kill me without the others even knowing about it.

I needed to find out how i got here and how i could go back. The more i stayed here, the more difficult it would be. As i laid there in that position, i couldn't help but reminisce about how i had gotten here. The pain and the betrayal that Jason and Juliet had put me through. Were they even looking for me or were they wishing that i had truly died?

I miss my mom and dad so much. I wish i could just wake up from this impossible nightmare and retrace my steps to avoid all these things from even happening. I just wish that i would snap my eyes open and everything would go back to normal. It's just too much for me to handle alone.

I waited for what seems to be an eternity before deciding to make my move. Carefully but meticulously, i removed my blindfolds. With the weapon that i was able to steal from the tray earlier, i struggled to untie myself. I finally did and untied the ropes on my legs before taking the gag out of my mouth.

When i was done, i made my way towards the door and tried to push it open. It was the hardest thing that i had ever done in my life but with time, i pushed it open, finally freeing myself into the night.

I dashed into the woods. I had no idea where i was going but i still took my chances whilst still trying to figure out where i was. There was nothing but grasses and trees at every turn that I took. This is definitely not my hometown. And i can't locate the river where i had found myself in before. At that moment, it began to rain heavily.

Just when i was trying to find my way through the trees for shelter, i heard a very loud howl behind me. Terrified, i hid myself behind a rock. That was definitely a wild animal. When the night light was casted on the ground followed by a rumbling thunder, i saw an injured wolf just like the one i had seen earlier howling in pain.

Feeling sympathetic yet scared for the animal, i carefully approached it. It was bleeding.

I hurriedly searched around the area for some herbs and crushed them together with my hands to apply on the wolf's injured leg. I tore my dress to wrap it up and as soon as i was finished administering first aid, the wolf transformed back to its human form just like Jayden did from earlier. It was an old woman.

I'm guessing that i would be seeing a lot of this around here. These people around here are not humans like me. They're different. They all have an animal inside them that pops out. God! I'm beginning to sound like myself from earlier. Do i even believe any of this?

She opened her tired eyes to look at me. "Ma'am are you okay?" I asked when she could see me.

"Help me." She whispered into the pouring rain. "My house is just around this area. Please, help me." And with that, she slipped back into unconsciousness.
