Chapter 20 - The departure

Callista woke up to the warmth of Lucien's arms wrapped tightly around her. The mark on her neck tingled, a constant reminder of their bond. She traced her fingers over it, feeling the surge of power it brought her.

But today was the day.

She had to leave.

Lucien stirred beside her, his blue eyes fluttering open. The moment he saw her, his hold tightened. "Stay," he murmured, his voice hoarse with sleep.

Her heart clenched painfully. "I wish I could."

Lucien exhaled sharply, sitting up as frustration flickered across his face. "I don't trust them. I don't trust her."

"Sabrina won't kill me," Callista said. "Not yet. She needs me."

"And what if she changes her mind?" His jaw clenched. "I can't protect you if you're with them."

Callista reached for his hand, squeezing it. "You already have. I'm stronger now. I have my wolf, my magic, and…" She touched the mark on her neck. "I have you. No matter what happens, we're connected."

Lucien stared at her, emotions warring in his gaze. He cupped her cheek, his thumb tracing her skin. "Then promise me one thing."

She nodded.

"Come back to me."

Her throat tightened. "I will."

A knock at the door interrupted them. One of the guards stepped in. "Your Highness… they're here."

Callista took a shaky breath and stood. It was time.

Facing the Enemy

The entire pack gathered outside as Sabrina arrived with her witches. Dressed in a flowing dark robe, she stood with an air of power and confidence, her golden eyes gleaming with amusement.

"Right on time," she said, smiling at Callista. "I see you've enjoyed your stay." Her gaze flickered to the mark on Callista's neck, and her smirk deepened. "And I see you've claimed your mate. How… predictable."

Lucien growled lowly, but Callista held his hand, keeping him from attacking.

"I agreed to come," Callista said, standing tall. "So let's go."

Sabrina's eyes twinkled with satisfaction. "Good girl."

Callista turned back to Lucien, her heart aching. He held her gaze, his hands tightening into fists as if he were barely holding himself back from stopping her.

"I'll find you," he whispered.

She swallowed hard and gave him a small nod. Then, without another word, she stepped toward Sabrina.

Dark magic swirled around them, engulfing Callista in an icy grip. She clenched her fists, feeling her wolf stir restlessly, but she forced herself to stay still.

As the spell took hold, the last thing she saw was Lucien—his piercing blue eyes locked onto hers, filled with a silent promise.

Then everything faded to black.
