Jennifer and Hope both stood in the hotel room that was given to them to get her ready.
It was the day of the wedding and they were preparing already. Jennifer wore a simple white gown that she had gotten herself because she had not seen the man that she was supposed to marry since the day that they had signed the contract.
They had been communicating through email and all he had been talking about were arrangements. He sent the date, time and location to her without answering any of questions that she asked.
She asked if he was bringing groomsmen to know if she was going to bring bridesmaids and all he said was that it was a private ceremony that he would prefer to get through as quickly as possible.
She took that as a no, but she knew that she could not get through the day without Hope and her mother.
Her mother had tears in her eyes when she saw her and she had to excuse herself.
She was her mother's only daughter and child and since she was a teenager, they had always talked about when she would get married. How she would wear her mother's wedding dress for her own wedding and how her mother would walk her down the aisle.
Now all this wasn't going to happen because Dwayne wanted the wedding to be over in 2 hours or less.
He had invited only one journalist so that the news could be leaked to the press in a controlled manner.
She stood in front of a mirror in her wedding gown and wore her heels before turning to Pamela.
"Alright, let's go" she said.
The ceremony was being held in the small hall downstairs in the same hotel but it felt like it was just a normal day.
It was hard for her to believe that it was her wedding day.
She walked into the hall to see a few people sitting there.
The journalist, Dwayne's publicity team and her mother.
The priest was already standing in front with Dwayne , he looked impatient, like he would rather be anywhere else in the world and he was deep in thought.
He was coming from his office, and he had been paid an unexpected and unpleasant visit by Petra McKay.
He was sorting some important files, files that would change his status to married after the wedding when he suddenly heard a knock on his office door.
He had told his assistant to clear his schedule for the weekend so he did not know who would be knocking.
Before he could ask who it was, the door was pushed open and he heard the clicking of heels on the tiles and looked up to see who it could be.
A tall elegant lady walked in and dropped her bag on the chair in front of his table. The woman he had once been in love with before she cheated on him with the one man he hated the most in the world.
She sat on the chair, crossed her legs and placed her hand on the table.
"I heard you're getting married," she said, tapping her perfectly manicured nails on the desk.
"And why should that concern you?" Dwayne asked, trying to cool his temper.
Dwayne's head began to swirl with thoughts. After what she did, she had the audacity to come into his office and talk like she owned the place.
"It hasn't even been that long since we broke up" she turned her head to the side, giving a little smirk.
"It's been five months, that's long enough," Dwayne replied.
"Not long enough to get married out of nowhere" she said again.
"I still don't see how that is any of your business," Dwayne said in a low growl.
"Don't get married." She finally said, hitting the nail on the head.
"What makes you think you have any opinion in my life?" Dwayne demanded.
"Well, if you get married, there would be no chance that we would ever get back together and I know you've always wanted us to get back together. In fact, I know that you are still in love with me." She purred.
He chuckled and raised his eyes to look at her.
"You embarrassed me by cheating on me with the most hated person in my life and you think that I would hold on to the hope that we would get back together?" He asked, not expecting an answer.
"You have some nerve coming here, Petra." He continued, "I will give you ten seconds to get out of my office and my building. If not, I will have you thrown out of here in a manner so embarrassing that you would hate me for the rest of your life. And you of all people should know that I do not make empty threats." He growled at her.
He had loved her a lot when they were together but when she cheated, it all vanished.
His thoughts drifted back to the present day as he watched Jennifer walk down the aisle towards him. He couldn't help but think back to the time when he thought that Petra would be the one walking down the aisle towards him.
When she got to the front, he signaled to the priest for him to begin the ceremony.
The priest concluded the ceremony as quickly as possible with a hurried "I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride."
Jennifer looked at him in disdain and closed her eyes before pecking him swiftly on the cheek.
He couldn't help but feel offended at her expression of disgust at kissing him but he shook it off.
They concluded it and took pictures that would be released to the press.
Jennifer went to hug Hope and her mother, while Dwayne waited for her outside.
Dwayne entered the driver's seat of the exotic car while Jennifer entered the passenger seat, waving at her mum and best friend. And as cameras were clicking, taking pictures behind them, they zoomed off and headed straight for the Stryker estate.
