Chapter 4 - Frantic

He saw her then. Just ahead, struggling with a rusted iron gate leading into what looked like an abandoned garden or courtyard. She fumbled with the latch, her movements frantic.

"Hey!" Gabriel yelled, not caring about stealth anymore. "Under the archway! Turn left!"

She froze, startled, looking back at him. Her hood fell back slightly, revealing striking features beneath the rain – high cheekbones, defined jaw, those intense blue eyes. Lucy, he thought, just a wild guess based on nothing.

The pursuers rounded the corner. They saw her too.

"Her!" one of them shouted.

Okay. So they were after her. Or maybe they were after both of them, and she was the key.

Lucy didn't hesitate. She abandoned the gate and sprinted towards the archway Gabriel had indicated. He pounded the pavement, closing the distance between them.
