Chapter 1 - prologue: the moon secret

--

Long before the first howl pierced the night sky, before wolves and lycans drew blood over territory and pride, the Moon watched over all. She created balance—strength with softness, fury with peace. From her light came the wolves. From her shadow, the lycans. And from her heart, something older—something pure.

But mortals forgot.

They tore at each other, claw and fang, until peace was a memory. The wolves despised the lycans' rage. The lycans mocked the wolves' restraint. In the silence that followed countless wars, a third presence vanished—one the world no longer remembered.

Now, the balance is faltering.

The Moon Goddess stands beneath a bleeding sky, her silver eyes dimmed with sorrow. She watches as hatred festers in the heart of a powerful Alpha—one who carries the blood of both moon and shadow, yet denies half of who he is. She listens to the lonely cries of an outcast soul, an Omega scorned by his kind, unaware of the divine fire inside him.

A storm approaches. Old blood awakens.

And so, she speaks—into the stars, the earth, the very bones of fate:

"Two shall rise. One forged in fury, the other born of forgotten light. Mates by destiny, divided by fear. If they unite, the world shall heal. If they fall, all will burn.

But destiny cannot be denied, what the Goddess hid - she would one day reveal, and that day.... begins now.

Chapter 1: Yu Jun's Torment

The wind howled through the trees as Yu Jun stood at the edge of the cliff, his gaze fixed on the darkening horizon. His posture was rigid, as if the weight of the world rested on his shoulders. His eyes, cold and indifferent, were locked on the distant moon rising in the sky. The moon. A symbol of his curse.

Yu Jun was no ordinary Alpha. His bloodline was rare—half lycan, half wolf. Two natures, two beasts, struggling for control. The wolf was the leader, the one who could connect with his pack, his people. The lycan was the monster, the uncontrollable rage that surged through his veins whenever the moon reached its peak. It was his curse, the thing that had torn his family apart, that had cost him the only person he had ever loved.

He clenched his fists, feeling the familiar pull of his lycan side. It was there, just beneath the surface, waiting to break free. Yu Jun could almost taste the wildness in the air as the beast within him stirred. He didn't want it. He didn't need it. His wolf side was manageable, but the lycan... the lycan was dangerous. Unpredictable. It had cost him everything once before, and he wasn't about to let it happen again.

The memories of his mother's death haunted him—how the beast inside him had come to life during a full moon, how his mother had been forced to put him down to save the pack. His mother's blood was on his hands. The guilt was an unrelenting weight that he carried every single day.

"Yu Jun," a voice called from behind him, breaking his reverie. He didn't need to turn around to know it was his Beta, hyeon-u, always the loyal one. Hyeon-u had been with him through thick and thin, but even hyeon-u didn't truly understand the depth of the pain Yu Jun carried.

"You've been out here for hours," hyeon-u continued, stepping closer. "The pack needs you."

Yu Jun let out a sharp breath, his jaw tightening. He wasn't in the mood for words. "Tell them I'm not interested. Not tonight."

Hyeon-u hesitated. "We need to talk about the fated mate ceremony. The elders are getting restless."

At the mention of the ceremony, Yu Jun's eyes darkened. The idea of a mate—of being bound to someone—was the last thing he wanted. He couldn't afford to be distracted. He had no interest in finding a mate, especially not when his lycan side could still surface at any moment. The thought of binding someone to that darkness, to the monster he feared himself... it was too much.

"I've already made it clear," Yu Jun growled, his voice colder than before. "I don't need a mate. Not now. Not ever."

Hyeon-u bowed his head, understanding the finality in his Alpha's voice. "I'll inform the elders."

Yu Jun didn't respond. He was already lost in his thoughts again, the winds carrying the scent of the forest, the scent of freedom. If only he could escape his own nature. But that was impossible. The beast was always there, lurking, waiting for a moment of weakness.

And that's when it would strike.

– Ye Jun (Unshifted Omega)

"Late bloomer," they called him.

"Defective," others whispered.

"Maybe he's not even a real wolf."

Ye Jun heard it all—but today, he smiled anyway.

He helped one of the younger pups stand after a clumsy fall, dusted their knees off, and sent them running toward their parents.

"Ye Jun!" Min called from a distance, waving a sandwich in one hand. "Your stomach shift yet? Or are you still all pretty face and no fur?"

Ye Jun laughed softly, joining him on the grassy hill. "Maybe I'm meant to be the pack flower."

Min snorted. "You? A flower? You'd probably wilt in direct sunlight."

Ye Jun just smiled, but as he looked up at the moon…

Something pulsed behind his ribs.

A thread tugged tight.

He touched his chest instinctively—eyes wide.

Something is coming.

Or maybe someone.

– The Moon Goddess

In a realm between shadow and silver, the Moon Goddess stood barefoot on still water, her long hair glowing like the tide.

She whispered to the stars: "They are not ready. But fate does not wait."

Two threads pulsed in her open palms—one burned with fire, the other shimmered like starlight.

"Let them resist," she said softly. "Let them run. The bond will still find them."
