Alya's eyes locked onto Kaito's, and for a moment, they just stared at each other. The world around them seemed to melt away, leaving only the two of them.
Kaito was the first to break the silence. "Alya-san, are you okay?" he asked, his voice gentle.
Alya's gaze faltered, and she looked away, her silver hair falling like a curtain over her face. "I'm fine, Kaito-kun," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kaito wasn't convinced. He could sense that something was bothering her, and he wanted to know what it was. "If you're okay, then why do you look so lost in thought?" he asked, his tone soft.
Alya's eyes flashed with a hint of annoyance, but it was quickly replaced by a mask of indifference. "I'm just thinking about something, that's all," she said, her voice neutral.
Kaito nodded, but he couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to it. He wanted to know what was going on in her mind, what was causing her to look so vulnerable.
As they stood there, the silence between them grew thicker, like a fog that refused to lift. Kaito felt a pang of uncertainty, wondering if he should push the issue or let it go.
But then, Alya spoke up, her voice barely above a whisper. "Kaito-kun, can I ask you something?"
Kaito's heart skipped a beat. "Of course, Alya-san. What is it?"
Alya's eyes locked onto his, and for a moment, Kaito felt like he was drowning in their depths. "Do you think people can change?" she asked, her voice laced with a hint of desperation.
Kaito was taken aback by the question. He didn't know what to say, but he knew he had to respond. "I think people can try to change," he said, his voice gentle. "But it depends on the person and their willingness to put in the effort."
Alya nodded, her eyes dropping to the ground. "I see," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kaito felt a pang of curiosity. What was Alya trying to change about herself? And why did she seem so desperate about it?
As they stood there, the silence between them grew thicker once again. Kaito knew he had to say something, but he didn't know what.
"Alya-san," he said, his voice soft. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm here. Okay?"
Alya's eyes flashed with surprise, and for a moment, Kaito thought he saw a glimmer of tears in her eyes. But then, she smiled, and the moment was gone. "Arigatou, Kaito-kun," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Kaito smiled back, feeling a sense of connection with Alya that he couldn't quite explain. "Anytime, Alya-san," he said, his voice gentle.
As they parted ways, Kaito couldn't shake off the feeling that he had just caught a glimpse of something vulnerable in Alya. Something that she didn't show to many people.
And he couldn't help but wonder what other secrets lay hidden beneath her flirtatious facade.
The days went by, and Kaito found himself looking forward to seeing Alya in class. He enjoyed her company, and he felt like he was getting to know her better.
But there was still something about her that seemed mysterious, something that he couldn't quite put his finger on.
Kaito's curiosity was piqued, and he knew he had to find out more about Alya. What was she hiding behind her mask of confidence and flirtation?
And what would happen if he got too close to the truth?
