Chapter 1 - Summoned By Mistake

(December 25th of 2025)

Accel Winchester, a young college student in his twenties, was walking home from university when he coincidentally encountered several passersby, including high school students, elderly individuals, and adults returning from work. Suddenly, a blinding light appeared, and they were all transported to another world. They found themselves in the throne room of King George von Ebonhart, the ruler of a small kingdom, who had summoned them with the aid of the Priestess of the Broken Path, also known as the Fracture Saints.

King George von Ebonhart was a selfish and arrogant ruler who spent his kingdom's resources on his personal desires. A pressing topic had emerged across the Continent of Aetherion: the Demon Lord from the Northern Regions had risen and summoned an army. To slay the Demon Lord, those who accepted the challenge would be rewarded handsomely by the Empire of Sovereign Nations, enticing both lesser and greater kingdoms to take action.

(Aetherion Calendar 4050 - A Week Ago)

King George's army was insufficient to send troops to the Northern Regions, as he had already spent most of his resources on personal desires. He couldn't rely on his personal officers, as they were just as corrupted and selfish as he was, concerned only with resources and status. In light of this, he sought assistance from the Religious Dreadful Order, also known as the Broken Path.

Goddess Irkara, also referred to as the Goddess of Ruin, Rebellion, and Fracture, follows the Path of Ruin and Destruction, much like her older sisters. The Ruin-Scribes, who hold the second-highest position within the Broken Path, dispatched a group known as the Fraction Saints, who occupy the third-highest position, to assist the King of the Small Kingdom. They accepted payment in the form of a handful of human laborers and gold coins for their sinister purposes.

The Fraction Saints provided King George with knowledge of a powerful ability known as Hero Summoning. This technique allows him to summon beings from another world, granting these summoned beings access to abilities that the World of Aetheris has not seen throughout its 4,000-year history.

However, using Hero Summoning comes at a significant cost. While it is not explicitly forbidden by the Religious Order of Light, the Broken Path, which is part of the Religious Dreadful Order of the Dark, can use it without restriction. The Fracture Saints Representative who shared this knowledge with King George did not disclose the true cost of utilizing the Hero Summoning ability. This cost involves a substantial reduction in the user's lifespan and a weakening of their strength by 90%.

The reason the Fracture Saints Representative withheld this critical information was part of a scheme orchestrated by the Warchanter of Shards, the leader (similar to a Pope) of the Broken Path. Their plan is to exploit the summoned heroes for their sinister objectives, using King George as a puppet. Once the King is weakened and his lifespan diminished, they intend to eliminate him and replace him with an imposter who resembles King George.

(Kingdom of Brackenhold - Throne Room - Present)

King George had completed the Hero Summoning, but he fainted in his throne seat. Taking advantage of this, the Fracture Saint Representative used Body Puppetry—a form of Mind Manipulation Magic—to temporarily control his body and speech. With this, their plan was set in motion as heroes from another world arrived. However, to his surprise, it wasn't just four heroes who appeared; several other individuals had also been drawn into the Hero Summoning.

From the Fracture Saint Representative's perspective, the four young students were the primary targets, while the others were not. He began controlling King George's body and addressed them: "Heroes from another world! Welcome to the world of Aetheris! You are currently on the Aetherion Continent, in the Small Kingdom of Brackenhold. Your mission is to join our army and slay the Demon Lord of the Northern Regions. Please, we need your help."

Accel Winchester was astonished to find himself transported into another world. However, he couldn't shake the feeling that this Hero Summoning was off. Based on his favorite isekai animes and mangas, he knew he could end up in either a good or bad situation. Just like the typical isekai stories, the King—or ruler of this kingdom—began discussing the need to slay Demon Lords and aid the kingdom, following the same routine as always.

After several minutes of introductions, the priest beside the King signaled the guards to escort them to their designated rooms. Unbeknownst to them, something significant was about to happen. The four students who had been summoned were missing when they all arrived at their assigned location, and the priest revealed his true colors. "I'm sorry, but we do not need you. Goodbye, worthless beings!" he declared. Suddenly, a magic circle appeared beneath them, teleporting not back to their world but to random, unknown locations. Accel found himself in a vast, dark forest.

(Verdelume Thicket - Ancient Forest - Night)

"What happened? Where am I?" Accel found himself in Verdelum Thicket, a place rich with over 4,000 years of history. The forest was so thick that even holy or dark powers could not cut down these ancient trees. "Tch... I can't believe that priest teleported me here." He looked around. "It seems we've all been separated, but it doesn't matter to me. Based on my calculations, it's time to open my favorite system. Status Window, open!"

"System: Congratulations, Accel Winchester, for opening your Status Window! You have received your first ability from your favorite anime, manga, or novel. Choose only one!"

Accel was amazed that he could select his favorite abilities from his beloved stories. He chose "Haki" from the anime "One Piece."
