Chapter 1 - CHAPTER ONE: Red Emerald

The forest is cloaked in darkness, Tall trees are staring down at the little girl, who's crying her lungs out next to the lifeless body of her mother. It's like they're mocking her—as if there's no one to save her. The little girl shakes the body of her mother, wishing she would wake up. Her cry echoes through the forest. There's nothing else around. Her mother's eyes are wide open, staring at the sky—but the sky is covered with leaves, so even during her last breath, the only thing she saw was darkness, and the only thing she heard were the cries of her little girl. Her heart is filled with blood. It seems like something went through her—a hole. Blood is spilling out of it.

Suddenly, a crow lands on her chest. The little girl backs off as soon as it lands, terrified by the sudden movement. The crow lets out a soft sound from its mouth, looking at the girl. Then its focus shifts to the mother. It notices a necklace lying on her neck—a red emerald. A little spill of blood is there too, barely visible because of the redness of the gem. The crow bites it. The little girl sees it and starts waving her hand, trying to hit it, to make it go away. Then she hears the sound of crows screaming in the wind. She's not alone. The crows have been watching them through the shadows. The girl starts to muffle, scared. She looks around. The sound of crows screaming gets louder and louder.

Survival instincts hit her mind. She pulls the necklace from her mother's neck. Seems like it's something special—very special. Then she gets up and starts running through the forest, as fast as she can. No light. Just darkness. She doesn't know where she's going. She's running just to get away from them. She's panting, but not slowing down. She notices a little light ahead. She picks up the pace. All she wants now is to reach that light. You know what they say: When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light. She comes across a road, where there are no trees. The light of the moon shines down, no longer covered by leaves. A crow hits her from behind. She didn't notice—they were following her. That hit knocks her to the ground. While falling, her body twists backward. Crack. Her head hits the asphalt, like a coconut smashing on the ground, bursting into pieces. Blood spills everywhere. She dies the moment she hits the ground. She saw the light— But still failed, Just like her mother.

The darkness slowly fades away, and the sun starts rising. The corpse of the little girl is still rotting there. Footsteps. Getting closer and closer. They stop. Aydra—a teenage girl—stands over the lifeless body. She approaches it calmly. She bends down to take a look. There's no fear in her eyes. Seems like she's used to this. She notices one of the girl's hands clenched tight around something. She reaches for it. Opens the hand slowly— Revealing the necklace. She grabs it and stands. Raises it toward her eyes, examining it closely. Out of nowhere, a crow cuts through the wind from her right—fast. She hears the sudden movement. She raises her hand and catches it by the neck—midair. Like it's nothing. She's strong. She's trained. Ready for anything. Her grip tightens. nap. She breaks the crow's neck. It stops struggling. No reaction in her eyes. They're still fixed on the necklace—scanning it. She lets go of the crow. It drops to the ground beside the little girl's body. She covers the necklace with her hand, slips it into her pocket, And walks into the forest. Just like that— She continues her life, Leaving behind everything that happened... As the mystery it is.

Aydra is back in her city. Tall buildings rise above her—silent, still. Not a single sound. It seems empty. But there's more to it. She's walking along the side of the street. Alone. While she walks, she hears a scream. Getting closer. Closer. From above. She looks up— Someone is falling from the sky. No way to tell if they were pushed or if it was suicide. SPLAT. The body scatters into pieces. She ignores it. Keeps walking. She approaches a building. Enters. Walks toward the elevator. Presses the button. It arrives. She steps in. Presses "20." The last floor. She waits. Calm breathing. Like it's just another usual day. Ding. The doors open. She steps out. Then hears a man pleading—from her left. She turns to look. A man and a woman are stabbing someone. Over and over. Taking turns. She exhales. Turns left. And walks down the hallway.

She arrives at her apartment—number 69. Pulls out the key. Unlocks the door. Enters. Then she closes it behind her. Proceeds inside. To her left, She notices a door left hanging open. Through the crack, She sees a body— Hanging from a rope. A middle-aged man. Her father. He's hanged himself. She lets out a sigh, Like she expected this to happen. Then she looks forward— And keeps walking. She heads to the balcony. Slides the door open. Steps outside. Leans over the railing. It's silent. Sunny. And more than that— It's empty. She stands there for a moment. Just to feel the wind. Calmly breathing, Taking in the view.

She sees someone in front of another building— waving at her. She looks closer. It's a boy. Young. Maybe in his twenties. She chooses to ignore it. On his balcony, there's a pigeon cage. He walks over, unlocks it, pulls out a pigeon. He ties a note to its leg, like he's done this a hundred times before. Then he throws it into the sky. The pigeon flies— straight toward Aydra's balcony. It lands. She pulls the note from its leg. The bird flaps its wings and flies back, like it knows its route by heart. She opens the note. It reads: "How are you?" She glares back at him. Sees the faint smile on his face.

She didn't give it a second thought. She threw the note away. He saw it. Then tied another note to the pigeon's leg and sent it flying again. This time, she pulled it off— didn't even bother to read it. Crushed the paper and dropped it. He didn't give up. He sent another one. She was annoyed now. When the pigeon landed, she grabbed it by the neck, twisted it— Snap. Dropped it to the ground. It fell. He saw it. Furious, he flipped her off and stormed back into his apartment. Finally, some fresh air in her mind. Peace. She went back to taking in the view. But then— a sickening scream from behind. A woman's voice. Sharp. Cracked. Drenched in grief. Aydra glanced back, just slightly. Turning her head. The sound grew louder— the sobbing, the sorrow. She didn't understand what she was supposed to do. So she just stood there.

The sky is pitch black. Hears cracking—bones, wood—breaking that darkness. Then comes a light. A bonfire. Next to it, Aydra and her mother stand, staring at it in horror. Her mother is crying, sobbing uncontrollably. Aydra—she's just staring right at it, like she's in a trance. She's broken, but she doesn't understand how to let those emotions out. So she just stands there, eyes blurred, while the flames burn. "He should've talked to me." "We could've figured it out... Why? Why?" Aydra hears her but doesn't respond right away. Still locked on the fire. Then slowly, she turns to her mother. "He's gone, Mom." She drops her eyes to her knees, as if she's guilty of something. "He's dead. This is what he wanted." Without even glancing back at her mother, she turns and starts walking away from the bonfire, disappearing into the darkness. Suddenly— She hears footsteps. Running. From behind. She looks back slowly. Her mother is sprinting toward the flames. Aydra sucks in a breath. Bends her knees, ready to run— Too late. She jumps. She screams in pain. Aydra freezes. Just watches. Her breath grows heavier. The sound of her mother's screaming fades. She burns out.

Aydra runs away, tears blurring her vision. She finally breaks down. Back in her apartment, all alone, she sobs—can't bear the pain the universe's throwing at her. She has to let it all out. She stumbles into her room, jumps onto the bed, and cries harder, staring at the ceiling. Her sobs grow louder and louder. Suddenly, she bolts out of bed and slams her fists against the wall. She can't cry anymore—now she's screaming. THUD—CRACK! A sound from the living room. Fear grips her. Then a voice yells, "WHO THE FUCK IS SCREAMING?!" She runs toward the living room, heart pounding, unsure what to do. There, a fat, tall man stands in front of her—her neighbor. "You." He growls, anger thick in his voice. He storms toward her. "YOU FUCKING LITTLE BITCH!" He grabs her by the neck and squeezes. She hits him, harder and harder, but it's no use. He's too strong. His grip tightens. She gasps for air; her breath slows. Her pupils roll back—only white left in her eyes. Her body starts shutting down. One last attempt—she stops struggling. Her head drops. SKRUNK! Out of nowhere, a crow crashes into his face, piercing his eyes. His grip loosens. Aydra backs away. The man collapses to the ground.

Aydra comes back to life, coughing and breathing as hard as she can. She doesn't notice what just happened. She looks over. A crow hangs from the man's eyes, blood splattering everywhere. The crow's beak is broken. It dies instantly. She can't believe it. Caw! A crow screams from behind. She turns around. Outside, through the glass door, a flock of crows—twenty, maybe fifty—are staring right at her. She whispers, "What the hell is going on?" Heavy breathing comes from behind. The man is still alive—barely. Suddenly, the crows all start screaming. She takes a deep breath as the flock advances toward the body lying on the ground.
