Chapter 2 - THE EMPTY OFFICE

The sun rose early, marking a day Mirabel had been eagerly anticipating since she broke ties with love - a day she termed a "new beginning." She took out her diary, wrote a few words, and hurried into the bathroom. Minutes later, she emerged, got dressed, and said to herself, "Well, Mirabel, it's finally D-day to seize opportunities and chase dreams I once neglected due to unwanted distractions." She sighed deeply and added, "It's high time I embrace the future."

She grabbed her bag and a file from her drawer, which was beside her well-organized wardrobe against the pink-painted wall next to her photo frame. As she approached the exit door, Nanny called out, "Dear, are you sure you're ready? I really think you should slow things down a bit." Mirabel turned back, approached Nanny, and gave her a hug. "I'll be okay, Nanny. I need to reorganize my life, and there's no better way to do it than by going back to the office."

Nanny's voice was soft and concerned. "I understand, but you've just recovered from a heartbreak. I'm not sure you'll have the composure to face your staff at work. Maybe you should rest a bit more." Mirabel smiled, feeling a bit weak, but regained her composure to convince Nanny. "Look, I understand your point, and I'm grateful to have someone who genuinely cares about me. But I don't know the situation at the office - I've been out for two weeks. I really need to go, Nanny. I promise I'll be fine."

Nanny smiled, reminiscing about the old days when Mirabel was excited about work. However, that enthusiasm was dampened when Mirabel got entangled with men who took advantage of her wealth. Nanny wished her good luck, and Mirabel left immediately in her car.

Mirabel's father, Alfred, had built a successful advertising company, producing ads for companies' commodities and inventions. "The Journal" was renowned during Alfred's time, expanding and thriving, but over the years, jobs slowed down, and its popularity waned. Alfred lost his footing, and unfortunately, he passed away. Before his untimely demise, he passed on his legacy to Mirabel, his only child and daughter. Within weeks of taking the CEO seat, Mirabel revitalized the company, taking it beyond Alfred's wildest dreams. However, everything changed when Mirabel lost focus and interest in the company's growth.

Mirabel arrived at Avenue Street, the street she had neglected for over two weeks following Charles' betrayal. She honked her car...

Here's a revised version with some corrections and suggestions:

She honks her car horn but gets no response... She steps out of the car and enters the company through the gates. As she steps into the building, she notices that the whole place is empty - the main gate is open, the entrance door is wide open, and the building is in disarray... She searches every section of the building, but there's no one there. When she reaches her office, she falls to the ground and is overcome with emotion and weeps bitterly,

" What have I done..., the company, my company, my dad's company is in ruins all because of love..., Why did I ever fall in love. I truly am foolish I should have never chosen the path of love... Love is a scam.., it has left my life in ruins...., Where am I going start from..., Who do I turn to..., What should I do... "

Mirabel's eyes welled up with tears as she lamented, her heart heavy with grief and agony. "Ma'am..." A soft voice called out from just outside her office entrance. Mirabel turned to see Dianne, her personal assistant, standing in the doorway. Dianne was a tall, fair-skinned woman with brown eyes and glasses perched on her nose.

Mirabel's gaze met Dianne's, and she attempted to compose herself. "Dianne..." she said, wiping away her tears. Dianne stepped closer, concern etched on her face. "How have you been?" she asked gently, helping Mirabel up from the floor.

Mirabel asked, "You're here..." Dianne replied, "Yes, ma'am. Where have you been? You were absent for two weeks, and a lot has happened." Mirabel's voice was urgent and fearful as she asked, "What happened? Where's everybody? Why is everywhere so untidy?"

Dianne explained, "Ma'am, everyone's gone. They all left after you disappeared without warning. We were working on an ad, and suddenly you weren't there. We tried contacting you, but you didn't respond. We were disorganized, and the ad was pending. We lost the deal and had to compensate our clients with almost fifty percent of our company's profit. After that, we had a series of arguments, and just last week, the others stopped coming. They believed there was no way to recover, that everything was over. But I never stopped believing in you, ma'am. We need you now. If we have any shot at saving this company, it's now. If not, we're doomed."

Mirabel's eyes widened in shock. "All this happened in two weeks... What have I done?" She stumbled backward, but Dianne helped her remain balanced. "Ma'am, it's not the time to be weak. We can still do this," Dianne said in a motivational and reassuring voice.

Mirabel remained quiet for a while, her mind drifting far away as her thoughts warred with each other. She was in a confused state. Finally, she managed to compose herself and said, "Dianne..." "Yes, ma'am?" Dianne replied. "Reach out to the others. Instruct them to be at work as early as 7 tomorrow," Mirabel instructed before stepping out of the office and heading home.

Dianne remained in the office, shocked and confused. Her eyes lingered on the empty space, wondering what the next day would bring.
