Skylar was well known and popular at his school for having the best looks among his peers, not only was he good looking but also had the riches to back it up.
His dad is a well-known neurosurgeon in the country, His mum is an incredibly famous lawyer in the country known for always winning all her cases whether it was the opposable side or the right one. His life was what you described as perfect.
He had everything he wanted, he never lacked anything, be it money, clothes, or connection everything came easy to him. But there was one minor problem, his parents were always caught up with work and never made time for him. Whenever he asked to spend time with them, it was always the same excuse, "I'm busy" he got tired of listening to the same excuse over and over again and he eventually stopped asking.
At school, girls were always lined up asking to go on dates with Skylar, buying him expensive gifts, it was no news to anyone in the school that everyone wanted him.
Today was no different. It was lunchtime, which meant everyone was gathered up in the cafeteria. Skylar was sitting at a table with his best friend Dan, when a girl walked up to them holding a white box wrapped in silver lining. "Sky" she said offering the box with a smile, "I got this for you while I was out shopping yesterday. Please accept it, I promise you will love it." She looked at him hopefully, praying he would not turn her down like he had done with the dozen other girls who had approached him earlier.
Skylar glanced at the box, then looked up at her with a stoic expression. "Thanks, but I don't accept gifts from just anyone."
For a moment, the smile on her face faltered but she refused to give up just yet, "Right.... You can just open it and take a look if you do not like it I can just—", "I didn't ask for it" he cut in, his voice sharp but calm.
Dan let out a low whistle beside him, nudging his side, "Brutal as usual, man." Skylar just shrugged and returned his attention to his phone completely unfazed.
The girl ran back to her friends all flustered and embarrassed from the rejection. Dan tapped his friend on his shoulder gaining his attention, "hey, why don't you accept any of these girls or their gifts, I mean they are all good looking, they come from wealthy families, what else are you looking for?".
Skylar turned to look at him and scoffed, "you really think they come because they like me? They only come to me because of my looks and family status, nothing else. I want a girl that wants me for me, not some girl who wants me because of what she can benefit." Dan nodded and looked away, "I get you man, but that kind of girl is very hard to come by, unless you want a miracle to pop out of nowhere, you're not falling in love anytime soon."
Skylar got up from his seat and dan looked at him confused, 'where are you going, it's not yet time for class," "I'm going to go for a walk" Skylar replied. Dan got up from his seat, "Let's go." They both left the cafeteria and walked around the school garden, talking about random stuff to pass time.
The bell rang signaling the end of lunchtime, the students rushed back to their classes, Skylar and Dan quickly made their way to their classes just in time before the teacher came in. The class went on smoothly and finally the day ended.
It was evening time, and all the students had all gone home, Skylar decided to stay back and do some late-night practice for the upcoming basketball competition.
He went to the boys changing room to change into his sports clothes when Kayla suddenly pushed the door open, Skylar paused what he was doing and stared at the unfamiliar face staring at him with a flushed expression...
Just then he realized he was not wearing any shirt and quickly used his hands to cover his chest while Kayla nervously turns away quickly covering her face with her hands. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to walk in on you changing, I thought this was the girls changing room" she said with a flushed voice while trying to catch her breath as she ran out of the room and slammed the door behind her.
Skylar stood there with a dumbfounded look. He smiled to himself when he remembered the look she had on her face when she came in.
He quickly shook his head and decided to focus on his practice instead.
