Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

December 28 2124. It was the last day for the students from Earth Dragon city NO.3 high school. It is the day before their most important day. The day of awakening. This ceremony is conducted every year on December 28 and everyone who passed the age of 16 is eligible for this.

"Alright, listen up, students. This moment, this awakening, is the most important step in your life. Once you awaken, the most important thing you need to focus on is to level up to level 10 and choose a class." Their teacher incharge Mr. Smith was explaining the details about the awakening to his students.

"We fought and bled to give you this chance. You're the new generation, the ones who will take back our world. The path you choose today will shape your future, and possibly the future of humanity itself. So don't waste a second. Level up, get stronger, and find your path. You are a part of this war now. Make us proud...."

Teacher gave his speech as usual and started to explain other important things. Students were listening to him fervently so as not to miss any information.

While everyone was listening, a student sitting at the window side was staring out into the sky. His name was Alan. He, as everyone was waiting in anticipation for the awakening.

It was a post-apocalyptic world. Everything changed 98 years ago when large space fissures started appearing all over the world. Strange beasts started appearing all over the world. And the world was plunged into chaos.

Humans suffered a crushing defeat. The mighty 10 billion human population was cut down into a few hundred millions. There was massacre everywhere. Just when everyone thought the hope was lost a few large streaks started to appear in the sky.

Huge crystal pillars smashed down to earth. It created a field that blocked out the monsters while allowing the humans to enter. The pillars not only created a safe zone but also gave humans the ability to fight back.

It enabled those eligible ones to awaken. Everyone who awakened gained an ability panel which helped them level up by slaying monsters and regain their territories that are overrun by them.

The safe zones were only available for a limited time. Which motivated them to level up frantically. The opening of dungeons helped greatly. The dungeons of different levels and tiers were opened near the crystals and the safezone.

Thanks to the dungeons humanity were able to gain enough power to sustain themselves after the safezone timer ran out. Although some cities did not make it through, most of them survived through this disaster.

The crystal pillars which later were known as crystal monuments have many other functions other than awakening. It also mediated tier trials through which one advanced from one tier to another, and a system shop.

Every awakener must go through a tier trial on every 20 levels from tier 1 onwards. Otherwise they will be stuck at that level for the rest of their lives. Unlike awakening, tier trials were available anytime as long as you entered the range of the crystal you can access it through the system panel.

The system shop could be accessed by anyone as long as they are in the safezone. They will have to use the origin coins as the currency for the transactions, which will be dropped after slaying the monsters in the wild or in the dungeons.

And the most chilling fact about the crystal was that there was a timer counting down from 80 years on top of the crystal ever since the safe zone disappeared. Fast forward to today it has been 78 years since the safe zone disappeared, and the 80 year timer now has 1 year 258 days 21 hours remaining.

"One more thing. Those who want basic weapons can give me your names after school. We'll prepare them for you."

After the teacher explained everything thoroughly, the students were dismissed and allowed to go home early inorder to prepare for the big day Tomorrow. Alan got up with Arun and walked back home with him.

Arun was his best friend whom he got along with in school.

"Did you plan on any class you will be choosing after reaching tier 1" Arun was enthusiastic

"Archer. If I had high mana I might consider mage though"

"I knew about the archer class since you are into archery but mage is a new one. What made you think of it."

"I don't know, both have ranged attacks so I'll be able to apply my aiming skills regardless of which I pick. Well what is your plan?"

"I will go with the assassin class. Did you think of any special class"

" Spirit archer suits my taste."

"Oh a hybrid class that's gonna be tough." Arun replied

"If you get to choose a special class, what would that be?" Alan asked curiously.

"I actually want to be an assassin, but if it is a special class then…. Supreme assassin will be my choice"

"Why supreme assassin, and why not choose a hybrid class?"

" I am not that confident with magic or other stuff, plus I think I'll stick to assassination techniques. Also I've been practicing my special sabre and close combat moves. Plus I also made special outfit like those in my grandpa's old assassin games"

"you are still infatuated with those. And how is that old antique pc still working?"

"Grandpa transferred the data into the new system with his old friend's help. Now I'm playing on my mana computer after copying the data. I replayed the campaign several times already."

"Ha ha… you really are crazy. The assassin class does suit you."

"Why don't we make a secret organization like in that game it will be dope"

"Man, your craziness is overflowing. Alright, count me in. I won't take the assassin class though"

" Don't worry, I can make a few concessions."

Soon they reached the intersection that led them to their home. They gave their goodbyes and headed home. Alan soon reached his home. He made something to eat. He currently lives alone.

Both his parents work for the Gaia defender army. Considering the increasing monster tide over the years they got tight schedules lately as they were deployed to protect the cities. They got less free time due to it.

His father Michael was a mage, while his mother Lucy was a warrior. As for their class and tier he didn't know of it yet. Last time he saw them they were at the beginning levels of tier 3.

He had an elder brother Harry who works at 'Titans' guild, and he was selected for their ace combat team. His brother had the special class divine mage which was highly regarded by the workshop.

Alan took some time to do his routine workout. He texted his parents and brother as usual and surfed on the mananet (internet established in special magic networks) till he dozed off as usual.
